It had been about ninety minutes since she heard from Kasen said that Mamizou told her that Hieda no Akyuu mentioned that one of Kosuzu's books was doing some strange things that resulted in Keine falling into a coma, possibly becuase, in Hata no Kokoro's mind, the latter said something to the former which resulted in the former being used as aballistic projectile which would explain the supposed head trauma that Keine was most likely suffering. That wasn't important, really. As far as Reimu had heard from Marisa, the witch often gets smacked upside the head by either Alice or Patchouli, whoever that was. Hard cover books must be a rather valued commodity in home defense. But that didn't matter.

What mattered was that the compendium of Noh plays that she consulted every so often, a gift from Mamizou that she got from the Tengu village, was now missing a couple of works. In their place, there were other works that she had never heard of before. At first she though she had gotten the wrong book, which may explain why the title was "A Helpful Annex of Gensokyo's Noh" and not "A Complete Collection of Tengu Noh Plays" like she remembered. Kokoror shrugged. Kosuzu probably had another of those in her bookstore, so she headed down to the Human Village to speak with her.

Human Village

The menreiki's journey was largely tranquil, the cheerful thoughts in her head as she skipped her way to the village visible on the mask atop of her head. She hummed a simple tune, a rythmless amalgamation of music she had heard before, as she wondered where Reimu was. She knew that the shrine maiden had duties with the people, but she saw her within the temple ground's more often than not. Maybe she got taken away by duties somewhere else. Shrine maidens had plenty of work, after all. Most of it seemed to revolve around monetary gain in some way or another.

All these thoughts screeched to a halt once she spotted a motley crew close to the center of the village and she spotted a familiar figure, one that had a Hannya mask briefly take its place on her head: Komeiji Koishi. Kokoro stopped on her tracks to shake her head and slap her cheeks a couple of times as the mask changed into a fox. The menreiki clenched her fists and walked towards the group and happened to notice Kosuzu attempting to defuse the situation. It was time to be the better (wo)man. Time to demonstrate that it was the good deeds that get rewarded and that mean things (like stealing) get punished. Kokoro marched straight into Kosuzu's face and, without even knowing what was happening, stood in attention as she stated: "I'll help".

It was fair to say that she had forgotten about the book for a moment there. Not like it mattered, really. The book had forgotten too.

There was now a chapter about kabuki theatre.

Ability/Skills:

Hata no Kokoro has the power to manipulate emotions through the use of her 66 65 masks, which can be said to be physical embodinents of Kokoro's own and actually be her emotions. As such, taking a mask doesn't cause it to become inerr but rather it causes Kokoro to lose the ability to feel that particular emotion, whilst he mas itself will affect anyone and everyone around it; impressing that particular emotion onto the holder and those surrounding them. After a certain incident caused by the loss of her Mask of Hope, Kokoro's developed enough of a personality and a sense of self to retain some control should she lose a mask, albeit she'd be rather unstable. Losing two or more would cause her to go berserk, as she still relies on them to express herself to a great degree.
Kokoro's capable of using some of her masks to channel her power in different ways: a dragon mask to breathe fire, an ushi-oni mask to spit web and similar. In the same vein, she can use them to fire danmaku projectiles. She's also been seen manifesting a pair of fans and a naginata, the former which she can use to fire danmaku and the latter she's proficient with in its traditional usage. Finally, as a youkai Kokoro can be said to be decently powerful, given her age.

History:

A menreiki born from the sixty-six masks Toyosatomimi no Miko had made for the play of Hata no Kawakatsu thirteen hundred of years ago, Hata no Kokoro's appearance in Gensokyo heralded the beginning of an incident as it coincided with the loss of her Mask of Hope, the very same now in Koishi's possession. Having literally lost her hope, her presence led to a nihilistic mindset that gave birth to a religious war between Shintoism, Buddhism and Shintoism. Albeit a war is too big and violent, since it could be best defined as a popularity contest.
At the end of the day, the help of several individuals helped Kokoro's identity and individuality blossom forth past her masks, putting an end to the Hopeless Masquerade and granting the Menreiki the opportunity of learning about her emotioms and growing out of her need to use the masks. One activity that picqued her interest was the business of incident solving, an activity that imposed a great sense of responsability on those that had to solve it. Maybe she could even get it solved before Reimu and the others got involved.

Personality:

Kokoro can be likened to a shy child in her general behavior: quiet and reclusive more often than not but very enthusiastic and cheerful once she's drawn out of her shell. She's passionate about Noh plays and likes to perform in a stage. She can also get carried away at times, specially when it comes to fighting. It's important to note that, whilst emotionally immature, Kokoro isn't really dumb. She's no mental giant, however; she's simply average when it comes to intellect.
Another important facet is that she conveys her expresions and emotions almost entirely though her masks, leaving her voice flat and monotone and her features blank and inexpressive. This is something that she's aware of and, in order to convey how she feels, she's often seen gesticulating rather wildly. Furthermore, the mask she's currently wearing is the one she feels is the more fitting to how she feels, which can be somewhat jarring at times since she can get it wrong the times where she's dealing with an unknown feeling or emotion.

Other

• Kokoro regularly performs Noh plays at the Hakurei Shrine in order to stabilize her masks and her emotions.
• Kokoro is rather well acquaintanced with Toyosatomimi no Miko, her creator, and with Futatsuiba Mamizou, who frequently helped her with her emotional stability.

Profile: The Nezu shrine. A historic place whose mystifying torii gates loom above visitors as they travel underneath their mesmerizing vermillion. An astounding sight worthy of one of the oldest japanese Shinto shrines. One that stands proud, beautiful and aloof amidst its peers both in Real-Tokyo and Other-Tokyo, albeit for differing reasons: The former for what's been stated, and the latter for housing a wide variety of Daemons of various uses. And it is the Kurokawa family that which stands as the groundskeepers of this ancient shrine.

Up until three generations ago, the family kept to themselves in their duties, content with dealing with Black Babel only to supply them with help regarding Daemons or even groom some specimens for their use. That changed when a young Witch caught the eye of Ryunosuke Kurokawa, and who he took as his wife. This was the moment those genes seeped into the family, and the organization saw the addition of their straight-laced descendants.

Hikaru Kurokawa is the latest of these heirs, and the one who's shown the most promise of them all. A pragmatic blend of the old and the new; a girl who treads the line between old traditions and the modern world as casually as a midday stroll. Sharp of wit, eyes and tongue, Hikaru's the kind of girl who'll always cut the knot when given the chance. Even the antiquated manner she wields her magic is done as precise and efficiently as she can, taking in the situation around her and devicing an appropiate response. In other words, winging it. It's how she kept up with others across the years despite her lack of formal education.

As a matter of fact, she's always winged it. It's hard to tell when she's not.

Familiar - Saga: An Imp-class Daemon, at first glance it looks like a pair of cojoined pitcher plants connected to each other by several vein-like vines centering on a large, orange eye with a slit pupil. Both pitchers are black, albeit one's opening is rimmed with sharp teeth. Saga's a domesticated Daemon that, when fed on the toothed pitcher, will fill the other pitcher with magic ink that a Kurokawa can use, ink that can either be spewed through some vines or simply be left to sit for Hikaru to dip her brush in. Saga's prone to a guttural purring and/ot growling from time to time, but it doesn't speak. It's worth noting that Hikaru can control Saga's ink from afar to a small extent if it came in contact with her brush.
Equipment

• Broom: Long and sleek with a bushy rear, Hikaru's broom also serves as the polearm equivalent of a calligraphy brush. Naturally, it's been reinforced for continuous on-site usage and the long bristles were harvested from a peaceful Golem-class Daemon. It serves adequately as a transport, but that's about it.
• Calligraphy Brush: A much more wieldy alternative to her broom to use her magic with, this simple brush's bristles share the same origin than its larger counterpart's.

Magic

Curses:

• Forceful Mark: A quick sigil is drawn on the air and, once completed, will exert a considerable amount of kinetic energy across a short distance in the direction its facing. If applied directly on a surface or an enemy, it'll be significantly more effective, albeit it's simple concussive force. Using her larger brush increases the amount of force exerted by a proportional amount.
• Ink Tendrils: By drawing the kanji 采 and then touching it, Hikaru can produce a long tentacle made of ink to grab, bind and trash her foes around. Natyrally, using the large brush to draw the symbol results in a larger tentacle, but using this usually obstructs too much of Hikaru's sight to be used for anything more than brute force sweeping.
• Fiery Brand: Hikaru uses her brush to draw the symbol of fire (火) on the air. Once she touches it with her hand, a torrent of flames will be spewed out in that direction, dispersing upon contact with a solid object. Using the broom for this will cause the output to be larger, but the seal will take a bit longer to draw. The output can be likened to a fire engine's hose versus a pressurized stream being jetted out an open pipeline.

Charms:

• Sharp Shadow: Rather than drawing a kanji, Hikaru sharpens and toughens the ink in her brush to use it as a dagger or her broom as a polearm akin to a naginata. Furthermore, the charm lingers long enoigh for any splattered ink to cut.

Crafts:

• All-reaching Touch: Hikaru's coup de grace isn't exactly a powerful finisher. Rather, due to the properties of her ink and her ability to shape sprayed ink into other kanjis and curses, Hikaru's plenty capable of laying hidden traps that she can activate remotely simply by touching a similar kanji she has made and hasn't activated yet. A room can be filled with numerous pillars of raging fire or tentacles trashing around should Hikaru be able to see them and maintain them. Naturally, the further the distance, the harder each remote activation becomes
