-Combat ability: As one of the greatest aces of her time, Minna is an excellent soldier in the air who is capable of expertly leading a small unit.

-Magic: Minna is a Witch, a young girl possessing innate magical power and abilities. Amplified by the Striker Unit, she is able to block most attacks using her magic Shield which, in combination with her enhanced physical abilities and high-speed flight capabilities, allows her to fight on the level of even much stronger opponents. As one of the older Strike Witches, her shield is weaker than most of her subordinate's, but she makes up for this with experience.

-Three Dimensional Space Understanding Ability: Classified in the perception-lineage, it makes possible to perceive and discern all nearby targets in every direction, sorting out their position, number and classification. It also serves her well as a commander, being useful for noticing small details about others and maintaining unit cohesion (such as appearing suddenly to diffuse arguments).

Personality: She is skilled at leading operations and squad management and, rather than pursuing her own individual military gains, she focus on the efficient military performance of the squad as a whole. She also has a tendency to look after her subordinates, which causes some to have a motherly impression about her.

Maybe due coming from a family that produced musicians for generations, Minna's demeanour is graceful and gentle, overflowing with elegance. She seldom gets angry, but possesses the backbone to stand in direct opposition in face of unreasonableness no matter who the adversary is. Although blessed with resourcefulness and flexible thinking, she is fragile once that last line in her heart is crossed and also has an inflexible side that relies on the rules to maintain her mental balance. If peace happens to come, her dream for the future is to become a singer.

Minna has been portrayed as harbouring special feelings that surpass friendship towards Squadron Leader Sakamoto, a comrade in arms from since before the 501st Joint Fighter Wing's formation who often works together with her from a squad management standpoint. This is to the point that she worried about the relationship that Sakamoto - who was then working as an instructor at a training school in Yokosuka - had with her students. Also, because Squadron Leader Sakamoto and Sergeant Miyafuji from her unit often display an extremely unprecedented behaviour, she has some degree of prejudice similar to resignation towards Fuso Witches in general.

She also has a good relationship with Flight Lieutenant Barkhorn and Flying Officer Hartmann. She knows them during a lot of time, especially Barkhorn, and haves a best friends relationship with them. She actuates like a mother with the rookies, like Miyafuji Yoshika, Lynette Bishop and Francesca Lucchini.

As someone who prefers showers, Minna is self-conscious about having a hard time dealing with the Fuso-style of baths, in which many go in together. On that note, it seems that she purposely chooses a timing when she can bathe alone. She also seems to have a liking for foods and drinks with an extremely strong taste.

Squadron Leader Sakamoto Mio

-Leadership: Mio excels at the leadership to amass subordinates and is proficient in training not only subordinates but also superiors, guiding their abilities.
-Combat ability: Mio is an extraordinarily skilled warrior in the air, showing the speed and technique to not only evade laser attacks while flying, but to cut through them in mid-air using her sword.

Weapons: Her sword, Reppumaru.

Abilities:
-Magic: Mio is a Witch, a young girl possessing innate magical power and abilities. Amplified by the Striker Unit, she should able to block most attacks using her magic Shield which, in combination with her enhanced physical abilities and high-speed flight capabilities, allows her to fight on the level of even much stronger opponents. However, Mio's abilities have begun to degrade with her age, so she has lost the use of her magic Shield. This does not stop her from fighting, however, as her extraordinary skill and willpower more than make up for her lower magical power. Uses the magic Fuso sword, Reppumaru.

-Reppuzan: (See) A technique that can bisect even a large-type Neuroi along with its core by letting magic power over-concentrate at the point of the blade. Both Sakamoto Mio and Miyafuji Yoshika require the sword Reppumaru to execute it. Originally, this was something that comes under the telekinesis-lineage. Thus, for non-telekinesis-lineage Witch like Sakamoto, acquiring it was a next to impossible task.

-Magic Eye:(See) Classified in the perception-lineage, her right eye can discern things in a far off distant place with super eyesight and even see through a domain that human eyesight normally cannot perceive. However, the limit is range that her field of vision reaches and cannot see past obstacles such as nighttime, deep clouds or structures. Also, it is difficult to control and remains permanently active, requiring the use of her eye-patch to cover it when not in use. Incidentally, when Mio is low on magic power - due to injury or simple degradation caused by age - her vision loses its special functions and her right eye becomes a normal eye.

Personality: She puts the whole team together with a fatherly atmosphere, playing an active role in battle as a superior front-line commander. She takes pride in having never lost a wingman.

Broadminded and cheerful, she has a personality that is somewhat candidly mannish and does fuss over the minor details of daily life. Mio is faithful to moral obligations and humane feelings, even sentimental in a sense. Her favorite motto is " simplicity and fortitude". Hot-blooded, at a glance she seems simply impulsive, but in battle she has both a cool and elaborate thinking and audacious behavior. No matter what kind of dilemma, she always seeks a solution without ever giving up. She is actually easily moved to tears, but never cries in front of others. The occasion when she wailed before Wing Commander Wilcke prior to the decisive battle out of frustration and hopelessness from her magic power drying up was an exception.

Mio is adored by many Witches due of her personality and military service, but it seems that she herself is unaware of that. Although is frequently approached by Flying Officer Clostermann from the same team, she believes that the girl's feelings are just those of a diligent subordinate towards its superior and doesn't notice any special favor at all. Wing Commander Wilcke, who had a long fellowship with Mio from since before the unit's formation, also seems to hold a favor towards her that exceeds mere friendship. From Private Hijikata Keisuke (currently a Warrant Officer), her exclusive underling and chauffeur, Mio receives an absolute respect that borders worship.

Mio is knowledgeable about the Way of Tea, but doesn't fuss about formal etiquette. She has a fondness for hot springs and was the on who had the idea of constructing a Fuso-style bathhouse at the 501st's base. In the only time Mio was shown using a shower, she did so because she didn't want people to see her crying. As seen in Tenkū no Otome-tachi, she also appears to be afraid of snakes, having fainted upon facing one while stranded on an island.

Mio has no likes and dislikes regarding food and, so long it is eatable, she will eat anything without fail. On the other hand, she is not very good at cooking herself due having enrolled in the military since an early age. One of her troubles is the fact that, even though she can prepare a fish, her onigiri turn out round no matter how she tries to make them. Also by piling up training upon training, she mastered the "Higi - Tamagogiri" (秘技・卵斬り, secret technique - egg cutter) that slices an egg in a horizontal line with a Fuso sword.

Flight Lieutenant Gertrud Barkhorn

-Combat ability: As a veteran witch with the position of second greatest ace in the world, it's no small surprise that Gertrud is an exceptionally skilled soldier. Gertrud can perform for a long time in combat with heavy armaments thanks to the special qualities of her inherent magic and is a capable flying corps' combat leader.

-Other: She is also skilled in the drafting operation plans, arranging of equipment and human resources and desk work about thing such as management of supplies, making her a good fighter-wing's adjunct. Within the 501st Joint Fighter Wing, she is the archivist in charge.

-Magic: Gertrud is a Witch, a young girl possessing innate magical power and abilities. Amplified by the Striker Unit, she is able to block most attacks using her magic Shield which, in combination with her enhanced physical abilities and high-speed flight capabilities, allows her to fight on the level of even much stronger opponents.

-Superhuman Strength: Classified in telekinesis-lineage, it far exceeds the Body Strengthening - one of the basic abilities of a Witch - in capacity and sustainability. This kind of ability circulates the magic power inside the body and expenditure is low since there is no external diffusion, making possible to employ it for long periods of time. Because of that, Gertrud can hold heavy armaments that normal Witches cannot and, from the fact she can carry even more ammunition than others, this can be described as an ability suited for a drawn-out combats. It also allows her to tear off iron chains and lift up steel frames of a few tons for a short time.

Personality: A calm, cool and collected realist, Gertrud always tries to conduct herself in a rational manner. But since deep down she is a hot-blooded person, there are also times when her emotions get too worked up and she loses sight of her surroundings. She believes that a military member should abide by discipline and rules, but still doesn't seem to try to impose that much on anyone other than Flying Officer Hartmann.

She has a tendency to be too hard on herself as well as on others. Also, she always complains when someone is late and just loves rules and regulations. She's the kind of person who never lets her guard down. However to her friends Minna and Erica, whom she has known for a long time, she's slightly more open and friendly although she often yells at Erica for lacking discipline.

Gertrud has a serious siscon side, with a weakness for not only "little sisters" but also "little sister-like characters". The target of her affections are those who resembles her own little sister, Chris, in looks (like Sergeant Miyafuji) and those who she concludes that were "certainly raised by a gentle elder sister" (like Flying Officer Litvyak). Those like Pilot Officer Lucchini or Flying Officer Juutilainen are excluded.

Gertrud's cooking specialty is the Eisbein. She usually is not particular about taste, but that changes when she is cooking for her little sister. Also, she is bad at handling complex machines, with her driving skill being especially dangerous. Out of prudence, she often has Flying Officer Hartmann take the wheels when going out.

Flying Officer Erica Hartmann

-Combat ability: Erica is the greatest ace in her world, and the most expert witch in the 501st. She is extremely efficient and strategic in combat, and possessed both the power of calm observation and the intuition of a genius.

Amplified by the Striker Unit, she is able to block most attacks using her magic Shield which, in combination with her enhanced physical abilities and high-speed flight capabilities, allows her to fight on the level of even much stronger opponents. Can also use her offensive barrel roll, Sturm.

-Sturm: Classified in the attack system, is the ability of manipulate the air, divert the enemies's attacks and facilitate a special flight in a normal condition.

Personality: While extremely efficient and strategic in battle, Erica is rather sloppy on the ground, and her room (which she has never cleaned) is extremely messy. She is the sort of person who is only serious when the situation calls for it. Her carefree attitude stands in stark contrast to her twin sister's quieter, more reserved demeanour. However, while seemingly lighthearted, she actually cares a lot about safety and well-being of her teammates and friends. She doesn't talk much, and she likes doing things at her own pace, but she is really brave in battle and always performs accurate strikes. However, she dislikes the bureaucratic nature of the military. Her favourite hobby is sleep. She's amazing in combat, but otherwise she seems a little dreamy. She also likes the food, especially potato. However, she might not look like it, but she can be very stubborn sometimes, and she always looks at everything with critical eyes, so she isn't liked by the people above.

Erica also never seems to get stressed up or agitated. Also, she likes cooking, but Wing Commander Wilcke and Flight Lieutenant Barkhorn told she that 'You don't have to cook anything from now on…'. Since it was “orders from superior officers”, they even forced Erica to sign a paper on it. The people never know what this one is thinking. She's quite mysterious. She's a truly amazing ace in the sky, but down on the ground, it seems like she thinks even just moving her finger is making too much an effort. Consequently, she is the frequent target of the strait-laced Barkhorn's disciplinary lectures but she normally ignores and tune it out. A cheerful, upbeat and friendly breath of fresh air who doesn't hold grudges and can get along with anybody.

She haves a close relationship with Gertrud Barkhorn, in despite with her very different personalities. Erica also haves a good relation with Minna-Dietlinde Wilcke and a surprisingly close relationship with Sanya V. Litvyak. She considers Edytha Rossmann and Waltrud Krupinski good friends.
