Of course! Anything you post I'll give tips to, and anything we throw out I'll point out to you. There aren't a lot of do's and don'ts though. One of them is in serious RPs, don't spam your posts with tons of fonts and colors. Pretend you are writing a story, and write consistently in first person, third person, or god view. Which ever you prefer. You can change them between posts, and it's alright if you make mistakes (I will start out 3rd, and move into 1st by mistake. I'm used to writing 1st most of the time), as long as it's still readable. Also, it's not anyone's standard, but some of us have a few formats set that we use, but other's are free to change it up. A few simple posts might go like this, try to pick out as much as you can. Teknonick's Post [Naoto] I walk up to the counter, slamming my fist into it. "Waiter! Get me a couple o' your finest drinks!" I yelled out to the man behind the counter. This bar is a dump! I've got to remember not to come here ever again. ((That right there was a 'thought'. People do this differently, but Ragna and I are from an RP where we generally just use italics.)) "Waiter!" I yelled at the top of my lungs, waiting for him to return. Once he stood up again, he slid the drink down the counter. I caught it, and drank it down as quickly as I could. I tossed him a few coins, and nodded with a smile. "Thanks." Some Admin's Post <Naoto>: After you toss your coins, you decide to get up and leave ((This is Powerplaying right here. It's okay by some's standards, especially since he's an admin, but we try to avoid big actions like this unless we're moving things along.)) as quickly as you came. You notice on your way out some old lady in the corner being harassed by a bunch of adventurer's with owl products, and trying to force her to work for them. Somewhere else in the room, a goblin is playing some sort of music box. After you exit the tavern, a dragon appears! Dangit's Post [Humble Hero] I charge at the dragon, leaping into the air and slice at it, killing it in one blow! ((Godmodding! First: The admin didn't explain where the Dragon was. That's a problem on his part, but there should have at least been an OOC discussion about where he was to clarify. Second: Killing an NPC INSTANTLY, no. Especially since it was a Dragon! If it was a little goblin... depending on the RP... maybe. Third: This was an event given to another player specifically. If they wanted to, they should have jumped in and observedfirst. Fourth: If the admin had specifically pointed (I use <> to point, [] for 1st/3rd person) to all the players in the area, or those two player specifically, this would have been less of a problem. This post was so bad, I would instantly redact it (Tell them to remove it), and give them a HUGE warning for doing all that. If they've done it before, I would ban them at that point.)) There's a lot of things to learn, and everyone's styles are different. Completely different sometimes! I personally don't use Bold, ever. I use Italics for thoughts, or emphases on a single word (Or remove the italics, if it's a thought.) I use [] for personal character control, {} for NPC control, and <> for event controlling. You don't have to follow any of that, it's just what I go by. It also helps to add the [] so other's know who you are if you never mention your character's name in a post, or if you post with multiple characters, and want to specify who you're RPing as at the time, or from who's perspective (If you want a specific one, as opposed to the group's perspective.) It's also important to make sure you specify actual actions, versus thoughts. If your character says something, it should be obvious who heard him. If he wants to hit something, it should be obvious whether he wantsto hit something, if he's goingto hit something, or if he didhit something. Another good thing, is responding to a whole post! If someone (Such as an event admin) posts something, you don't have to respond to just what they said, or the very end of the post. It's also nice (But hard to do, even for expert players) to make your ENTIRE POST filled with options for other players. It's nice when you post something so big, that it's fun to read, but also gives other player's reasons to post and respond to it. I used to RP with this one guy, and we ended up being the only ones in the RP... but we ended up with massive posts, and responding to the entire post every time. We gave options like "Ready to smash the other one's head in!" and "Was about to say 'Blah blah blah'", which let's the other player decide whether or not your character had the chance to actually do those actions, or get interrupted. Things like that made it waaay more fun to RP, as we were always going back and forth, and it worked out more realistically! Instead of one character speaking, then standing still as the other's responded in their turn. Anyway, that's my tips! I'll throw you better one's once we start, since I'll be able to point things out better once I understand how you post and the such.
Yeah, of course! I have no problem with just one. I Just suggest it to everyone. There are plenty of people that only have one, as it can make your character more important. I know a few people that make so many characters, that each one is a clone of the other, but with X hair, and X name. If you start with one, you can always make more later! Most of the time they'll sneak up on you as an NPC, then your'll take over and start running with it! Those are the best characters. NPCs.
Yeah, I know they're not actually kids. xD. They just act like it sometimes. lol. Yeah, Kassy will be 11 if I ever add her in, so that's pretty young. I do have a problem holding her age though, as she always acts as the most mature character in the RP most of the time. If you end up making a young character, I'll be able to play her off of yours to help keep her age intact, xD Okay. *Nudges* I didn' do dat. Did I really say Tyoko instead of Tokyo? Dang nabbit. No, I meant Tokyo. Since I don't actually know what Tokyo looks like... a fictional version of the city would probably work best, with fictional locations and such. Yeah, if you don't make another character Unraveller, that's no problem. Most people only make one. I do encourage (Though do not enforce) multiple characters though, as it makes RPing a lot easier. Especially if you work them off of each other, or if they're in different locations, you have a lot more chances to actually post.
Should I barf up my characters over onto the characters section?
Christopher stepped out of the way as the one judge moved past him to interfere with the fighting the two people were having before us. "Who are they? Other guild members?" he asked Aurore. "Yes. That's Inigo and Leon. They're known to fight quiet often." she replied, settling her magic down now that the judge didn't appear a threat to her guild mates. "I'm sorry, I'm not sure I've met all of you. Aurore did most of the questing while I tried to find us a place to stay, when we were last in town." Christopher said."Unsuccessfully too, mind you. Still don't have a place to stay."
September 2nd, 7:14pm, Introduction Day. School's out! Only kids living off campus are allowed to leave. Students are allowed to get permission to leave campus by Jim, or the principal. (Not the RP rules... you can get kicked out of Kadic for breaking them, not the RP) [Josive] "Hmm... alright. I'd rather not stay too long. We've already spent a bit of time out here." I said afterwards. I added in an extra sigh, just to make sure I had my point made. "I'm not sure we'll find anything else though. And if we do, I'm not sure what we'd do with it." I shrugged, making my way to the elevator. I entered it, and examined the interior. I looked out the hatch we had climbed down through, noting the wires above us. "Anyone think this thing will run?" I asked everyone, worried about hitting the button. But, before I could even decide whether or not to hit the button, the hatch closed itself shut, and the doors to the elevator started closing fast! The elevator moved up two floors all on it's own, then came to a stop. "What the heck was that?" I asked anyone who managed to make it in the elevator. The doors opened up, to reveal another floor. There was this big 'bowl' in the center of the room, and tracks going around it. There was a computer display on the other side of the room, with a chair sitting in the tracks. "Wow. What the heck is this place? I think we might have found what we were looking for." I stated my own thoughts aloud. I walked into the room, not even thinking about the fact the elevator had moved on it's own anymore. I walked over towards the chair and computer, deciding to take a seat in it to look at the screen. I stared at a black monitor, not sure what to make of it. I looked down at the keyboard sitting in front of me, and decided to enter in a key combination to turn on the monitor... which worked. "Hey look, it worked! Where's the computer tower?" I said, looking around for it. All of a sudden, a giant hologram filled the 'bowl' in the center of the room, showing what looked to be like a floating forest. "What the- wow! I think we've definitelyfound what we've been looking for." I commented, looking back at the screen now. "Oh hey, they have a picture set!" I called out, pointing at the girl with pink hair with her eyes closed.Wait... she looks familiar... who is she?
Aren't Keima and Nu children? xD! Yeah, I could make another character myself. I could make Kassy, that would be good. She's usually the two I posted's grandparent... but, eh, there's no time travel in this RP, so... yeah, niece maybe. Yeah.
Uh... I would say about two, maybe three. I'll say two more if at least one of them brings in a second character. If someone comes in with three characters though, I'll say that's good enough to start. I bet this'll pick up much faster after we get going. The two o you's can make more characters if you like.
Well, welcome aboard to forum role-playing! It is surely the best way to go! As for anything else you should know... hmmm... not really. Other than the starting location is a convention about the Fourth Dimension, hosted by the guys that invented the new technology. Oh, and spread the word maybe? :D!
