A basic Wally time scenario where humans have left the earth to rot in favor of living up in the sky. Building a whole system of sky cities and individual clans. A young scientist, named Edge, decides to explore the desolate earth one day, in a dangerous self mission for data. Unfortunately, he crash lands into the surface, messing up his jet pack and any chance to return home. There, he finds the rotting earth has become populated by mutant ravenous creatures, he finds this out the hard way. Luckily, an even larger creatures saves him, albeit only interested in eating the smaller creatures. It turns out to be a young white haired boy with golden eyes; a dragon. Turns out they were left behind when the earth was abandoned, having made a pact a long time ago to not harm the humans.
Annoyed, the dragon called Path, doesn't want anything to do with the human, but is obliged not to hurt him. Rather letting him die on his own until Edge reveals that the humans left shelters underground stocked with food and water. The deal is simple, protect him and he'll lead them to the shelter. Along the way, they dodge more monsters and acidic rain, taking cover in the vault of a rusting bank. Reaching the shelter, Path hides his excitement over the shelter and Edge finds himself intrigued by the blue blooded reptillian. Deciding that he wants to study him, he promises he can restore the world in exchange for researching the dragon. Somewhere alone hypnosis, a major theme btw, Edge seduces the dragon, whilst finding out that he, himself, is a hydra, a species that were never on good terms with the hydra.
Resigning himself to his new mate, they happily awaited their newborn children in the shelter for a few months. Edge trying to keep his hydra side under wraps while Path dealt with his growing pains. The dragon slowly grows colder, causing Edge to snap. Near hurting him before the eggs are laid. Their children are born, Skylark and Sleipnir. Edge, starved for affection, crushes on his own son. Path, meanwhile, remembers the elder dragons who had made plans for after the world was destroyed. Each growing apart, Edge finds his own clan of hydra and Path awakens the sleeping elders. Both sides wanting the other gone.
Path is shunned by the dragon for having mated with a hydra and feels distant from Edge whom seems to love others more than him. He follows the dragon to the hydras liar, a posh obsidian palace and lays down his life. Killed by Beezlebub, a hydra, he dies leaving Edge the twins. Heartbroken, Edge attempts to resurrect the dragon with his power, unfortunately, Path comes back entirely different. Cold, cutting and cruel, he takes no interest in their children and seduces Edge for power. The hydra Leo, takes a liking to Skylark and the metal dragon Ferrum succumbs to the powers of the hydra of lust, Charon.
Meanwhile, most of the others fighting end up trapped in the castle or in a special crystal shard made by the dragons. Path, called Relin by the dragons, tricks Edge into hurting his own son and nearly doing worse, before isolating him from the rest of the hydra. Killing him and claiming control over his kingdom.
Their king missing, the hydra take shelter in the basement with the dragons. The great tree Yggdrasil is used to free those trapped in the crystal and brings with it two new strangers and a history lesson. Outside, a war has started and just as everyone begins to recover, Path returns with a new found army of humans and that's about it so far
