Why must autocorrect ruin things in a way that is not even correct?

"Sounds good to me." Kasai joined Avani on the motorcycle as they set off to gather a few supplies for their last night in town. When they arrived back at her apartment, she looked up to the floor where the windows showed the view into her living room and she had to keep herself from frowning. Snapping out of it, she grabbed the rest of the things and began walking with Avani up to her apartment.

"Good point, looks like we'll be roughing it on our little adventure." Kasai smiled and led the way up to unlock the door. "Though I don't doubt our ability to get creative with it." Opening the door, she waited for the other woman to enter before she shut it behind them. The groceries were set on the counter in the kitchen and glasses were retrieved from the cabinet.

Glancing at the phone, Kasai wondered when Naomi would be calling. She almost didn't want her to. It was true that she had brought up the idea to bide herself a little more time to prepare for leaving, but now that she had less than 24 hours to do it she was trying to accept the fact that she was going to do this. Change wasn't something she welcomed happily, and she wasn't proud of how she had tried avoiding it.

Looking from the phone to Avani, Kasai studied her a moment while pouring them a couple drinks. The woman was excitable, filled with anticipation for their trip. Kasai wished she could be like that. She had plenty of confidence to go around, but her confidence lied elsewhere. Thinking of how far she, they, had come already, she reminded herself not to go back to her old ways and to embrace the change.

You can do this, Kasai. Thirst for adventure, don't fear it. She thought to herself as she poured them each a glass of sake. Instead of thinking about leaving her home, she thought about how it would feel without Avani in it. Instead of the fear of change, the excitement of the unknown. Her mood quickly began to turn back around and she brought the drinks to the coffee table and sat on the sofa with a smile.

"Well, I guess this is it then. Pack our bags and be on our way tomorrow. Cheers." Raising her glass, she smiled again and then took a drink. "So tell me, what destination do you have in mind? I don't want to be too unprepared, of course." Raising an eyebrow, she grinned. "If I have to pack light I'll only need the essentials... shoes, shirts, handcuffs..." Kasai teased, laughing as she did so.
Kennedy watched as the girl climbed cautiously from the water onto the dock. The stare that met her was hard, cold, and unyielding. Beside her, she felt the shepherd press against her leg and the vibrating from the low growl in his chest. While most likely extremely pissed off, Kennedy didn't figure this girl was of any immediate threat. Hell, she couldn't be that much younger than herself.

Slowly, she lowered one hand from the gun to comfort the canine at her side, melding her fingers with the fur of the dark mane around his neck. He sat, but his gaze was fixed on the stranger and his body remained tense. Eyeing the girl from behind her dark sunglasses, the goosebumps that followed the calm breeze made themselves visible on the other woman's arms. Kennedy sighed and slowly lowered the gun to her side, clicking the safety on but keeping it in her grasp.

Motioning towards the pile of clothes with her head, she spoke up. "Get dressed, you're liable to freeze soon if you don't get dried off." Truthfully, she didn't want any trouble. Pointing her gun at some random stranger... probably not the best move if she intended to avoid conflict. But these days, one couldn't be too cautious.

"Look, I'm sorry." She apologized, shrugging her shoulders. "I just heard the splashing, then Enzo here got tense. Can't be too careful, ya know?" She noticed the steely expression she was still garnering from the young woman and looked at the gun in her hand before looking back up. "Oh, shit. I'm not gonna hurt you or rob you or anything, we're just passing through." She put her hands up in an expression to show no intimidation, and took a few steps back.

Kasai couldn't help but chuckle at Avani's display for the photos. Granted, she probably shouldn't be plastering her face all over the media when she was supposedly locked up with the rest of the gang, but it was still enjoyable. People passing by on the sidewalk gave varying reactions to the display, but Kasai ignored them and just did whatever the photographer said to make the picture come out decently.

After a few more shots and a couple of hand shakes, the ordeal was over with. Naomi promised to call Kasai as soon as she had the information she needed, but at this point Kasai wasn't even sure they should have gone through with the idea. It sounded great when she was fired up about it, but now she had to wonder if it was the right decision. After the reporter and photographer left, Kasai turned to Avani.

"You're right, there's something off about them. It was our only shot considering, though now I'm wondering if we should have bothered with it at all." Kasai knew that last comment would earn her an 'I told you so' from Avani, but she didn't mind. Maybe they were both being too paranoid, too careful. At this point, she was ready to get it all over with and take off on their little adventure. Maybe getting away from the city and taking a break from real life would keep her mind from all these trivial things. She mentally kicked herself for overthinking things yet again.

"Well who knows, maybe the Mayor will give us some shiny medal or something. Not that it would mean much considering he hasn't given us one thus far. At the very least, we can check making it in the papers off of the bucket list." Kasai gave a cheesy grin and a thumbs up, hoping Avani wasn't too bummed out still. Kasai was tired of being bummed and wanted to get her mind on to other things.

"Well, come on hon. Let's go and do something to wait this thing out, unless there's something else you'd like to spend some of your hard earned cash on." Kasai gave her another smile and waited to see what they would be doing to kill the time.

The turning of the season towards autumn meant that the temperature outside was slightly more tolerable than it had been in the peak of July. For that, Kennedy was thankful. Even more so, Enzo was more than satisfied to not be burning to death in the thick coat of fur that he donned. The shepherd trotted happily at her side, along the pier where they had ventured to that day. It had been a quiet day, almost too quiet. Kennedy feared that what may appear as a break for once would soon turn into a fight or flight situation.

The Taurus pistol bounced in its holster on her hip as she continued to walk down along the docks, where old and abandoned boats sat anchored without any hope of their owners returning to take them out on the waves ever again. Something that this plague hadn't managed to ruin was the view of the ocean and all its beauty. It had taken months, but the young woman had finally made it west. Of course, she would have like her first visit to the Pacific ocean to be under better circumstances, but unfortunately it was this or nothing.

A splashing sound that was distinct from the calm lapping of the waves against the pier caught Enzo's attention. After everything that had happened up to that point, Kennedy had learned to trust her companion's instincts. Cautiously, she reached for the weapon at her side and flipped the safety off, removing the .22 from its place and securing both hands around it. Another splashing sound came from the edge of the dock and Enzo let out three sharp barks. Turning with the gun in her hand, Kennedy spun to see a young woman swimming off the dock.

Raising the gun, she took a step forward. Trust wasn't abundant among strangers like it used to be, and Kennedy had no idea of knowing whether this girl was infected or unfriendly. "Enzo! Heel." The shepherd moved back to Kennedy's side and sat, but a low growl still emitted from his chest. Kennedy hoped his barks had not drawn the attention of any more unwanted guests. Keeping her weapon steady, she called out. "Easy there. You might want to get out of the water now, before my pooch joins you." Her voice was kept even, not a threatening tone but not a weak one either. "Are you infected?" She questioned. It would make sense that if the girl knew she was a goner she would take one last swim in the ocean to be sent off.

Kennedy waited for a response, hoping this was a friendly and not a foe. Lord knows she's run in to too many enemies and not enough allies.
