The amount of space on the map that you're given is not absolute, and depends on the number and type of your fiefs. It isn't the case that everyone is given a definite space, which is then divided equally to each of their fiefs.
If you requested a certain segment of land on the map, you will not be receiving that area and that area alone unless you specifically engineered your fiefs so as to make your House fit into that area and that area alone.
