The Mask of Red Death
(An RP inspired by the Edgar Allan Poe short story of the same name.)

The world is ridden with an incurable disease. A disease that causes it's victims skin to rot, their eyes to go blind, their spit to be filled with blood, and pain to rack every nerve in their body until death. No one is immune. There is no cure.

There is, however, a haven. Surrounded by high walls is the heavily protected city of Salute. For more than a hundred years it has kept it's inhabitants safe from the disease. Any sign of sickness is quickly gotten rid if by quickly killing the victim and burning the body. This city is the only place where there is peace...

...until now.

The leader of Salute, Marcus Lamouth, has been found dead in his mansion. The cause of death? Sickness.

Not only that, but more and more people in the city are getting sick. Supplies are dwindling. Panic is setting in.

And a figure with a red mask seems to be the one behind it all...

The City

Solid brick walls surround the city like a circle. Guards are posted by every exit/entrance. In the center stands an enormous tower where the Leader, Army Commander, Head of Health, and Agricultural and Ranching Expert hold meetings. The city is divided into seven districts that see organised by rank, social status, and colors.

The Blue District
The buildings are painted blue and are architectured to be comfy and simple.
This district is home to multiple merchants and shops. If you're looking for goods, you can definitely find them here.

The Pink District
The buildings are large and grand. There are mainly mansions in this area.
The rich and important live within this district.

The Green District
The buildings are designed to hold large amounts of animals, harvested crops, and families comfortably.
This is where most of the farmers and ranchers live and supply food for the city.

The Yellow District
The buildings are more like shacks. The streets are dirty and a heavy stench is in the air.
The poor inhabit this area, a well as a lot of unruly folk.

The White District
The buildings here are factories and warehouses. Manufactured products are created here.

The Violet District
The buildings are simple houses with a rare store here and there. The middle-class live in this district.

The Red District
The place is in ruins. No one lives here. A large clock tower looms ominously in the middle. At the foot of the clock is a shallow pit filled with ashes and bones.
This is where the sick are killed and their bodies burned. It's also here the Red Masked Figure is mostly spotted.

The Citizens

Citizens are required to wear a mask. Though this is mostly for identification of rank, there is a superstition saying that the mask will protect you from sickness. No one wears a red mask for they say that the colour itself will bring misfortune.

The Leader
The one who makes the important decisions. When the Leader dies, the most qualifying official shall take their place.

The one in charge of the guards. He controls and monitors the safety of Salute's denizens.

The Red Mask

Not much is known except that he is spotted whenever someone dies of illness. They say that a single touch from him can infect you with the disease.

The more deaths there are, the more the figure is seen.

Personality: Regal, gentle, kindhearted, but naive and rebellious under close quarters. She has a habit of putting too much trust into one plan and not knowing how to move forward. She is a little superficial, growing up wearing beautiful clothing and objects that would garner for hundreds of dollars and only is beginning to understand life in the other Districts. She is open-minded and acts as a princess would.

History: Audrey grew up in the pink district, Daughter of the late Marcus Lamouth. Growing up she was highly regarded as almost the 'Princess of Salute,' and was treated as such, especially by her parents. She was taught fine arts, such as dancing, playing the violin and piano, painting, and other assorted arts. They always asked she acted as a Daughter of Salute, and she did.. for a while. When she hit fifteen, she met a boy, and as all teenagers do she fell in love.
He asked her to elope with him to the fabled 'Black District' where they could live free of her fathers ruling hand, and she agreed. After they got to the Black District however, their bags were stolen, leaving them with nothing to use for themselves. They tried to make it work, with Audrey getting a job at the Casino as a showgirl. During work hours, the boy she'd eloped with was stabbed in a back alley, forcing Audrey up to the surface once more to face her fathers wrath. Strangely, he accepted her back willingly in open arms and apologized for pressuring her. However, because she had made a contract she was forced to still work as a showgirl for the Black District under the command of a mysterious "Henceworth Gain," A black mask wearing drug lord who employed everyone at the casino. To keep his family safe from ridicule as well as secure his leadership, Marcus told her to finish her contract in secrecy. She agreed, and usually takes a body guard with her to the casino where she now privately dances for Henceworth Gain and his crew of mobmen.
She is the 'Princess' of Salute in the Day and a Showgirl at night, not even her mother knows. So when Marcus died, it unsettled the family... now they wait to see what becomes of the "Royal" Family of Salute.

Other: She still wears the wedding ring of the boy who eloped with her.

History:
Gae’s family has always had close loyalty to the Green District. It has been tradition for the Bolgs, a family of farmers and hard workers. To give their sons two choices of careers inside the walls. Either that of a farmer, to plow and toil under the sun but be relatively safe from the brutality of man. Or to choose the path of the sword and join the Green District guard. Gae had opted for the second choice, having always had an interest in the military, their fighting styles, tactics and equipment. He was so good at the position that he excelled rather quickly, he was offered promotions to join the army and leave his guard role behind. But being so close to his family in his Green district guard duties, he wouldn’t want to abandon them. So he simply stayed put, and rose in the ranks. Finally becoming a captain and having many men serving under him.

Having spent a lot of time with his brothers as the smallest child, his skin became thick from the tormenting. He was a great fighter, always having to fend off his older brothers and their prodding. He was a great thinker, as the smallest in the bunch he was often left alone to think and imagine while his brothers went off to do big boy things. He would practice with weapons his father crafted for him while his brothers were out tipping animals and chasing girls. This introversion as a child tranisitioned him to become a great strategist in the guard as he could use his brains while most others couldn’t. He wasn’t the biggest or strongest but he could use his wits to outsmart his opponents and his superior weaponry skills to out maneuver.

Gae has put a stop to many riots, of greedy peasants who thought themselves worthy of the food people like his family slaved to bring to fruition, while not pulling their fair share to even deserve it. He has jailed countless criminals who would seek to overthrow the hierarchy and steal food for themselves. He has taken arrows to the limbs, been stabbed by spears, slit heretics throats and moved through the shadows to assassinate those suspected of plotting to take control of the kingdoms food stocks. Once a very happy child, he has grown more bitter, cynical and loathing of the lower classes who don’t contribute. Aswell as the upper classes who live off the fat that hard workers like his parents contribute. He would never express these views agaisnt the upper class however. They were the masters.

Privately however, and if it were up to him, he would throw all those lazy, hedonistic upper and lower class people whom contribute little, outside the walls. He would then proceed to hang each and every criminal on their first offense, no second chances. He had a strong hatred for the way Marcus had ruled in regards to crime, being far too lax on the scum polluting the city. Not engaging them regularly for fear of riots breaking out that even the army wouldn’t be able to control. Gae suspected him of even encouraging these criminals and taking a fair share of the profits for personal gain. He had begun suspecting this after noticing, while on the prowl in a crime infested district. Marcus’s daughter wearing a disguise, Gae being so observant, was able to catch a glimpse of her face as she changed costumes. He kept this to himself, not wanting to destroy the young girls life and reputation, for deeds he suspected her sick father was orchestrating.

When Marcus passed away, he was quite happy. He hoped Jalyn would swoop in and take power, he liked Jalyn and would have enjoyed serving under him in the military if he could leave his family. Jalyn he thought, was a much stronger man than Marcus, as most military men are when compared to their kings. Jalyn he hoped, would exterminate the criminal scum and make the kingdom majestic again.
