Footsteps echoed through the entrance hall with a curious gait. Indrau stopped for a moment, leaning heavily on his cane. It had been 10 years and still the deep seated pain persisted. He grimaced and continued across the hall. The week spent in the saddle certainly hadn't helped and only served to make his knee stiffen up and become more painful.

The crippled knight had returned from a simple investigation that had lead to a handful of arrests and not much else. Not the building seemed mostly empty, leaving him to set his paperwork in order. The cane thumped louder on the floor, broadcasting his bad mood to anyone still around. He should be out with the rest of them, fighting and bleeding for the order.

It wasn't that he hated what he'd been doing. It was almost enough that he was doing something but there should be more. Let the younger ones do the running around and leave the fighting to the older veterans. It could be worse, Indrau supposed. He might have been expected to have gone to a banquet at the palace or something like that. There was no patience in him for that sort of thing although it seems that there had been some excitement and a group had headed off to some catacombs to deal with the threat.

"Damn it all."

Indrau stopped again and leaned on his cane for a moment. Even if he'd had enough details to assist it would be a long time before he'd be able to catch up. The Knight turned and limped off to the kitchens in search of a drink and maybe a snack.
Been reading through, looks like it's quite a chaotic situation with 3(?) groups. Would the best place maybe to pop in be with the princess's scene?
Awesome! now I can get some sleep.
Here we go.

Name: Indrau, The Crippled Lion
Age: 27
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Appearance:

Personality:
Indrau is bitter, in constant pain and hates the moniker that he has been given him. Even so, he can be kind in his own way and is selflessly devoted to his friends. He has a gallantry streak that extends only as far as actions go though even this has a limit. The knight also has a sharp mind but is content to sit quietly and hold his ideas to himself until it is apparent that things are about to go irreversibly badly.

Brief Backstory:
Indrau's short career as a knight errant was bloody and fast moving, drastically changing his outlook on life after he was badly wounded in battle and left for dead.

A youger, more naive man left home with just a sword and armor, trained by his fathers household knight but untested in battle. He found his worth soon enough in a large town set upon be a band of deserters. The young knight first bloodied his sword against these enemies while townsfolk fled. Indraus withdrew and rallied the survivors of the attack and struck back against the raiders. He was captured in their first engagement and spent three days being beaten before they dumped him in the crossroads outside of the town with both of his legs broken.

Inspired and enraged, the townsfolk fought a battle of attrition until the invaders were driven from their homes. Fewer than half of the townsfolk survived, a statistic that Indrau mourns to this day. His left leg was too badly damaged to heal properly and he lost an eye. For his part in the battle the towns lord, who was away at the time granted him an apprenticeship in the trade of his choice given that he was no longer able to fight.

Indrau discovered a talent for magic, metalwork and a love of problem solving. He excelled at his studies, throwing himself into them in an attempt to distract himself from his disability and the slaughter that had occured. In the end, after completing his final piece as a student and mastering the art he felt dissatisfied. It wasn't his place in life to create things in a workshop. Indrau was a man of action, a knight. He donned his armor once more and picked up a blade to set out on a new path.
Equipment:
Silence - Indraus Master piece and personal blade. To prove his mastery of Runic magic he has adorned the blade with a complex series of two hundred runes that deaden magic and slice through spells. The sword draws off of its own reserve of mana that can be added to by a mage.
Cane - This is a simple cane with a more minor runic enhancement that grants sure footedness.
Armor - His leg no longer able to bear the weight of a full set of plate, he wears a brigandine vest under a long leather coat with vambraces and greaves.

Skills:
Runic Magic - Instead of traditional words and gestures, Runic magic uses sigils charged with the will and mana of the caster. A sequence of runes comprising of a single spell must be performed all at once with unceasing concentration as the iamge in the mages mind serves to refine the physical aspect. A working as complex as Silence might take as long as 30 hours to create. To use a runic weapon requires nothing from the user provided the fuel requirement for the spell is already met. If such a weapon runs out of mana it is usually destroyed.
Should have my CS up later today

The Betrayer looked back from his position near the head of the unwieldy formation. His smaller, more nimble group had an easier time of things, neither fatigued by the constantly shifting terrain nor restricted in their movements by numbers. They had been marching ahead in a loose chevron, the dozen strong force was dwarfed by the armies around it.

He doubted that the rest of the alliance was pleased with the contribution from Morrins, a dozen men, barely a squads worth. The betrayer would have been happy if he'd had those that he had begun this ordeal with. Two hundred would be better than a mere twelve. Better again would be the three thousand that had fought with him all those years ago, before a man named Alexander Scariot had the hubris to presume to overthrow his lord.

The noise had caught his attention and the lightning pushed the champion into action. He held up a fist to signal a halt Swords slid from sheaths and pole arms swung to bear facing back the way they had come. He pointed towards a tall dune near where the fighting looked to now be breaking out. When he spoke his voice rasped as if the speaker was unused to using it. Regardless, it echoed with the familiarity of command.

"Regroup there. Cinder, ready a Flare. Stitches, Lance, Stout take point. Breaker and Cook on the flanks. Captain, get us cover. Move."

The small force broke into motion, shifting into formation with long practiced ease. Their feet churned the sand as the broke into a run towards the dune. Behind him a warm glow signified his mage drawing power for a brief moment before they were surrounded by a blackness deeper than that which had blotted out the sky.

Their formation crested the dune, giving them a view of the situation before them. Rain wetting the sand made their footing more certain as the leading rank faced the center of the melee below.

"Cinder Go. Captain, Drop the veil."

The mage in his black cloak and antiquated armor stuck his staff upright in the sand. A glowing nimbus surrounded his hand that he then threw up into the air. It blossomed into a sphere of fire that drifted lazily into the sky, illuminating the hilltop and sizzling as raindrops struck it. Either it would serve to rally allied forces to them or at least draw some of the enemy from below.

The latter happened first. A mass of the sand demons surged up the hill towards them and soon figures began to fall from the steady blasts of high speed pyromancy from Cinder. The small force formed a circle on the top of the dune, weapons going to work with deadly practice. The Forsworn held for now but soon numbers may begin to turn the tide. This desert was far too open for an effective defense.
