Taerys nodded slowly, considering each of the options put forward by Varus. She remained silent for a while as she watched the others put forward their views first. She knew that they weren't going to get all of the problems fixed. That was never the case, and it would never be the case. It did honestly sadden her a little that all these people in danger were getting ignored but tough decisions had to be made.

"Jackdaw is right, we know what we're getting with these marauders." The Varyx paused for a moment, looking around at everyone. "And what are we getting exactly? Pirates who couldn't organise themselves into a truly troublesome force even if someone smacked them in the face with the possibility of toppling the alliance." Taerys shrugged lightly, smiling a little. "We can deal with them later if we have to. What scares me more is the unknown. We should go to that colony that we lost contact with. If it was any normal glitch or bug in the system then surely their comms would be back up by now, no?" Again, she's looked each other crewmember in the eye before turning her attention to Rennac. "Either way, let's see what the new guy has to say about this."
Orders were orders...As much as she was uncomfortable with being ordered around a lot, Taerys recognised that going against the captain's orders was never going to help with anything. Besides, it'd probably be best just to collect herself up here for a while at least. Meditation maybe. It'd be a quick way to pass the time, at least. In all honesty, she wasn't looking forward to whatever shit Jackdaw was going to throw at her when she came back down. There was no chance of her forgetting about it either. If there was ever an antonym for the word 'Jackdaw' it'd be forgetfulness. And, uh...and a lot of other things come to think of it. Things that were probably not worth saying, but yeah, meditation sounded like the best option.

She wasn't entirely sure how much time had passed, but it was clearly not long enough, thankfully, for anyone to start worrying about her. Or get pissed off with her, for that matter. It was the unmistakable voice over the PA system that brought Taerys back into full consciousness. She regained her senses in quickly enough to hear everyone's names getting called out by Varus. She'd been on this ship long enough to know what it was about, though. Hell, she didn't even think that she really needed to PA system; they'd left the planet which always meant that Varus wanted to see the crew about missions and all that. She made her way down to the war room with haste.

The Varyx had noticed that she'd not seen anyone else coming to the war room but she'd hoped that she wasn't going to be hugely late or anything. Jackdaw wouldn't let her forget it, especially after her little, uh...incident. Regrettably, as she entered the room she saw that there were already quite a few people there. Taerys hated being the centre of attention with a passion. That was likely part of the reason why she was in the infiltrator team. She just hoped that there wouldn't be many eyes on her and stood there silently at the back, arms crossed.
Taerys let out a sigh if relief at Varus' clarification. She could only hope that he was being honest about it and wasn't just saying this to make her feel better, as good as the intentions would be. She shrugged lightly and, after dusting herself down a little, started for the exit. She was immediately halted by the words that came out of Varus' mouth.

"Confined to my room? But I-" She stopped herself mid-sentence, remembering Jackdaw and the new guy. She'd never really been great around new guys. And Jackdaw may still be a bit miffed at her. It was probably best for her to remain here alone for some time at least. "Yes sir." Taerys nodded up at him and picked up the dagger from the floor. "A good time for housekeeping, huh?" She giggled, sitting back on the bed with wipes to clean the dagger back up.
It took a while for Taerys to comprehend what Varus had just said. "30 minutes." She repeated, looking over to the Litharian with her mouth slightly agape. "That's...far longer than usual." The Varyx remarked in a quiet and rather brooding manner. It probably didn't mean anything, though. She felt like her normal self and she wasn't hurt in any unusual fashion. She shook her head a little and just pushed it to the back of her mind, sitting up and swinging her legs over the edge of the bed. "Your stories must have been pretty good then." Taerys smiled softly. "As for how much I remember?" She leaned forward, elbows resting on her thighs. "Well I remember that I asked you to keep talking to me even after I fell asleep." She shrugged nonchalantly. "Didn't think it'd be that long, so uh...sorry captain. Probably just because I'd left it for so long..." Her voice trailed off as she stood and cracked her back and started rubbing the back of her neck. She walked over to him and stood with her hands on her sides. "But, uh...we should get going. I've already kept you too long from your duties. Sorry." Taerys offered an apologetic smile and nod of the head.
By the way, I was only kidding about Taerys' 'gift' thing earlier on x3
Distortion of time perception was a predictable side-effect of the venom. It was no different today. Taerys could still hear him, though. She wasn't sure what was being said exactly but just having that knowledge that he was still there sitting with her...that was more than enough for her. She was constantly reminded of just how vulnerable she was like this; the Varyx relied on her speed and agility to get out of sticky situations. She actually found it kind of funny how their race had a hindrance like this and wondered whether Varus had any secrets similar to hers that he was keeping...A matter for another day perhaps.

Shortly afterwards - though really she had no idea how much time had passed - she found that Varus' words began making far more sense to her; he seemed like the kind of person who'd probably have a myriad of stories so they could have been for quite a while. "Ugh...Shyaka..." She moaned a curse in Varaxian and began to stir again. It was almost as if a chain reaction had been set off after that, with her senses returning to her like wildfire. As quick as she'd been put under the effects of it, they were gone. "I don't know how I do this on my own sometimes." She smirked and went to glance down at her wrist. It had already started to heal up, thank goodness. "Hey, uh...How long have I kept you here for?" Taerys asked guiltily, propping herself up on her elbow.
"I...Thank you, Varus." Butterflies in your stomach...she'd heard that phrase before but never knew what it felt like or when you'd even feel that way. Hell, originally she though that it was only humans who had that feeling. Now she knew. It was so odd, but it made her almost giddy with happiness. Maybe...maybe she just wasn't being herself. Maybe she just didn't know it and after she got this over a done with she'd act differently somehow. The Varyx didn't like that thought. In fact, she outright refused to believe it. This was Taerys, not some damn imitation. What she was feeling was true.

Her attention then turned back to the matter in hand. No point delaying it any longer, as much as she enjoyed sitting here talking to Varus. Afterwards she could show him that this was her true face. It had been a long while since the last Vahna, yes, but right now she swore that she was no different than if she had done it yesterday.

With a quick nod up at Varus, Taerys breathed in deeply, letting it slowly back out again to calm herself and almost forget completely about the physical world. She'd done this so many times that it was basically second nature to her. With a deftness that only someone with experience could bring, Taerys gracefully moved the tip of the dagger down so that it penetrated her skin and slid it diagonally across her wrist. It was not a deep cut by any means but it was enough that the venom could easily enter her bloodstream and take effect nearly immediately. Her mouth twitched slightly; she could still feel at least a little pain. A few seconds passed and her vision began to blur and she let the dagger clatter to the floor as she became weaker. Normal, but nonetheless it still scared her. She was never sure how long it would last each time.
With a shrug and a smirk, Taerys shuffled closer to Varus. "Better than losing my mind." She stated frankly, chuckling a little. She remained silent for a moment, thinking. "I've been doing this for years, but this'll be the first time since I left home where I'll have done it whilst being with someone who's concerned for me." The Varyx spoke softly, smiling. She hadn't realised but her free hand had found its way on top of Varus' hand, her fingers locking with his. When she did realise, she made no effort to move away, but instead squeezed tighter. She wanted to reassure him. She just wanted...Ah what the heck, why not.

In one brief moment Taerys was taken over by feeling she couldn't even begin to describe. She quickly darted up and kissed Varus on the lips, giddy with happiness. Even that one second was enough to leave herself nearly completely overwhelmed. "This...this means a lot to me, okay?" She looked away, embarrassed with herself. She'd just...kissed him? "I'm sorry..."
Taerys felt a wave of, well...really happy feelings - she wasn't entirely sure what to call them - course through her body when Varus put his hand on her shoulder. At that moment she felt more secure than she ever had in years; she couldn't help but smile brightly at the Litharian. Maybe she'd been wrong about the whole thing. Maybe...maybe she didn't need to keep this secret from Varus for so long. He was taking it a lot better than she thought he would anyway. Perhaps he...No, no...she was being stupid.

"Well, I'll be okay once I get this over and done with." She sighed, looking back down at the gilded and decorated hilt of the dagger as she put the bowl safely out of the way of anything. The tip of the blade was engraved in such a way that the venom was simply held there with no dripping or anything of the sort. The Varyx made good daggers, that was for sure. "I panicked when I noticed that I ran out of this stuff. I tried to hide it but...I'm not sure how well that worked out." She remarked guiltily. She knew how much of a pain she'd been for that week. Thankfully it seemed like everyone had forgotten. Almost. "It's pretty expensive. Not many people are willing to go to Filera now. They say that the souls of the dead wander the surface with an unquenchable thirst for revenge, no matter the race." Taerys paused for a moment, locking eyes with Varus. "Someday I'd like to see if that's the truth. I think you'd feel right at home on Filera, too."

The Varyx very nearly forgot why she'd brought him up here in the first place. She just felt so relaxed here. It had been too long since she'd been able to just let herself go like this. "Oh, uh...I'm sorry captain. It's been a while since I've talked to someone with this much freedom. It's hard to find people you can trust out here. Anyway, when I make the cut on my wrist I'll get quite weak and dizzy. Don't worry about it. It's just the venom working its magic. That'll last for about 5 minutes. I'll still be conscious so..." She trailed off, leaving the sentence hanging for a few seconds. "...please talk to me. It can get lonely."
Still smiling, Taerys popped the top off of the bottle of venom and poured a little into a small, shallow bowl. She looked down into the bowl for a few moments, swirling it around as different questions and thoughts raced through her mind. It wasn't easy, but she forced those niggling thoughts away. She trusted Varus. If that wasn't the case, they wouldn't be here right now.

With a deep breath, the Varyx put away the rest of the venom safely. "In Varaxian culture we have a...ritual of sorts called Vahna. When we reach adulthood...that's when we do it for the very first time..." Taerys remarked idly. She dipped the tip of the dagger into the venom in the bowl, making sure it was covered with the green liquid. "It's a sort of mind-cleansing ritual. We do it because if we don't, we turn feral. We lose ourselves to primal instincts and urges...and we can't get back from it." She lifted the dagger out of the bowl, staring at the shimmering steel tip coated with green. "The longest I've seen someone go without it is 2 months. It's already been 1 and half months for me..." Taerys trailed off and looked up at Varus, melancholy prevalent in her voice.
