Taerys felt like she was going to be sick. Not only had the ride down been unspeakably rough, she'd also been right next to Varus as his part of the ship had torn away and tumbled into the distance. Watching that was almost like her own heart had been torn out of her body. Now she was sat strapped into her seat inside the mangled mess that was the dropship, just thankful to be alive. Her breathing was heavy, but she felt nothing to suggest that she'd been injured.

After a couple of moments, the Varyx unbuckled herself from the seat and crashed down onto some debris just below her. She grimaced but did her best to ignore it, instead just crawling out of the wreckage into the open air.  When she'd made it out, Taerys took a second to recollect her thoughts, sitting up against the side of the ship. She'd noticed the others down at the other end of the wreck, though for now she made no move to meet up with them; it made sense to make sure that she was ok herself first. The others could wait.
Taerys remained stoic as she took her place on the dropship and her hand subconsciously drifted down to her right thigh. It was where she kept one of her daggers snugly tucked away and she felt safer just by touching it an knowing it was within reach at any one desired moment...She paid no mind to anyone else already on there and instead concentrated on focusing her own thoughts and body for what would await them on the planet's surface. In all honesty, she was so glad to finally get off the ship again. Four days were more than enough for her. Her place was in the field; she'd shown that for 3 years straight, much to the chagrin of Jackdaw, she supposed...

Today was just going to be another day at the office. A very stealthy office at that.
Taerys stared blankly at the outstretched hand and then back up to the owner of that hand, ignoring the offer. She really wasn't looking forward to working with the guy: one, he was completely new; she didn't know his style or how well he'd respond to certain things. Two...he was human. That was all that really needed to be said. What was to say that he wasn't just going to shoot her in the back of the the head at the first opportunity he got? Maybe that was going a little too far, but she didn't want to repeat the mistakes of her ancestors. Not now, not ever.

The Varyx flinched slightly at the sudden roar over at the other side of the hanger, though she didn't bother to investigate any further; it was obvious who it was and despite the fact that Ryder aggravated her quite a lot, she knew it wasn't worth overly worked up about it. Taerys was immensely glad of Varus' decision to keep Six behind, though. For a while at least. Of course, as much as she hated the prospect, she was going to have to get to know Six sooner or later. She'd just prefer that to be later instead of sooner. After a couple of moments, The Varyx started making her way over to the dropship, purposefully remaining quite far behind Jackdaw. The quicker they could get this over with, the better.
Well, there it was. The PA system had declared their imminent arrival to the planet; one which, in all honesty, seemed downright boring from the looks of things. At least, that's what it seemed like from out here. It was always easy to make assumptions when you were sitting tight in a cozy little spaceship out in the vacuum of space. Down there on the surface, though? That was a different story. You couldn't just escape danger with the flick of a few switches. What made it worse was the fact that nobody knew exactly what they were going to face when they got there. They had ideas of possibilities but nothing certain.

As far as Taerys was concerned, though, it could all be dealt with as they went along and honestly, despite all the difference between them, the team was damn good when they got down to it. The Varyx observed everyone currently inside the hanger as she strolled in, making a few small adjustments to her very lightweight armour as she went along. She'd already donned her sleek and streamlined whitish-grey helmet as she stood at the back of the group, the tinted black visor meaning that no one could see who or what she was looking at. The Varyx simply nodded at Varus. Taerys didn't like being all formal with salutes and fancy titles like 'sir'. At any rate, she was ready make a move.
A brief nod of acknowledgement at Varus as he left was enough. For a few moments, Taerys stood in the war room alone with her arms crossed. Thoughts about what the next week or so could bring were racing through her mind. She didn't make too much of it, but for a couple of seconds she completely forgot that she was in that room alone. Only the sporadic beeps and occasional pulsating red lights were there to accompany her.

With a sigh, she began to make her way to her quarters. It'd been 3 years since she'd joined this ship, yet it all still had such an alien vibe to her. Varyx were a very new species to the galactic community and it showed with Taerys. Everyone else seemed to be comfortable with all this fancy space travel and advanced tech. Taerys, not so much. Honestly, she'd rather not have to wear any armour at all; she'd already reduced her armour it to a practically bare-bones state. Although she did realise what the advantages of wearing it were, she tried to make herself as independent of it as physically possible and no matter how hard anyone tried, they weren't going to change her views. In the meantime, she still had to figure out a way to make 4 days pass quickly. If anything, the mission was going to be easier than that...
I'd say skip. Unless anyone really wants to do anything in those 4 days.
Taerys sighed quietly to herself, nodding once at Teeth as he left. She didn't like seeing Varus question himself like that, but then again she guessed that it was a good quality to have; he wasn't overly self-centred and egoistic at least. "Messed up? No. It's just how they are. I don't think you or anyone else can change that. Rennac will get used to it, just like everyone else has. He'll settle in and find his place. Until then we just need to make sure that Jackdaw and Dresden don't overstep the mark." The Varyx shrugged nonchalantly but smiled gently. "I don't trust him either, but you'd think that the Alliance would be able to root out any spies or saboteurs before they got onto their most advanced ships." She remained silent for a second or two. "He was only trying to help. You can't blame him for that, and you can't blame yourself for any of it either."
Taerys almost melted into the background as soon as everything started kicking off, stepping back against a nearby wall and crossing her arms. She wanted no part in those shenanigans, especially not after she'd already been involved in some today. The animosity Jackdaw and Dresden had towards Rennac was understandable but it wasn't what they should have shown. First impressions were everything and Rennac clearly hadn't had a good first impression of them.

The Varyx shrugged lightly as she watched people take their leave again. They were, as hard as it was to believe with some people sometimes, all professionals here and they were going to leave their personal relations between each other back on the ship once they were all on Hakov. At least, that's what she hoped would happen. "You think maybe we should have warned Rennac about Jackdaw and Dresden before he got here?" Taerys smirked, pushing herself forward again.
Taerys shrugged gently, her excitement fading just a tad. "Sounds like a very boring place..." She trailed off, glancing down at the metallic floor. Perhaps that was the reason why the perpetrators chose that planet. It would all seem rather innocuous seeing as the planet had only recently been colonised. At least, that was what they would have hoped everyone thought. It did mean that anyone on the planet's surface wouldn't have many places to hide. Though, maybe they didn't want to hide at all. Maybe they wanted a fight or something. Taerys just sighed to herself in exasperation. The world was full of unpredictably. The best that she could do was live in the world of the present and not worry about the world of the future. "So if that's the case then we have all we need to know, right?" The Varyx inquired, looking up at Varus. "And I can see why Dresden might be distrusting towards him, but Rennac was chosen to be on here for a reason. We just get him to do what he needs to do with our armour and we're ready."
Hakov II it was, then. The Varyx slowly stepped forward as the information was brought up. "Any local wildlife that we should watch out for?" Taerys felt satisfied at the outcome at least. In fact, she was pretty fired up for it. It also seemed that Rennac kind of knew what he was going on about so they did have some potential knowledge of what was coming. Hopefully that meant that their preparations would be useful to some degree, although Taerys knew that the only true preparation you could have for going into the unknown was to expect nothing to go as you plan. Adapt or die. That was her mantra. It seemed to be going well for her so far anyway. Honestly, though? She was kind of craving the adrenaline rush of being out in the wilderness; Varyx were not suited to being crammed into ships, even if those ships were the most advanced ever to be built.
