Today's the first time in a long time that I've felt empty. Not even sad or tired, just empty. This quarantine is getting to me more than I thought.

Meruin rubbed her neck as she awkwardly tried to smile as Lisanna clapped her back. As Tyler spoke, she frowned. "Were your parents magic as well?" she asked. She actually wanted to ask if he was alright, but Meruin, for all her knowledge and magic prowess, was still a socially awkward teen. That was the best thing she could say, she thought.

In the meantime, Reina, who was still packing up, spoke to Lisanna. "The term 'Assassin Mage' is slightly misleading. It may not be what you're thinking about," she said with a knowing smile.
Yeah? Well, anyway, already edited the post. Goin' aftah Blue Pegasus :) Besides, that's a lot of people already :D
Oh crap, I misread that :O Wait, give me a sec to change that. Crap, really sorry Dx
Meruin nodded. "Erm, yes, you might want to do that. And I'll take that," she said as she picked up the money. "Never wasted never wanted and all that. Where does your money come from anyway?"

Reina clapped her hands. "I just got the message. Chase is coming along, and don't worry your little heads, okay kids? I advised her to restrain her aura so you don't have to waste energy on barriers."
"Haha! Yeah, I think I like this kid," said Reina, grinning. "Well, anyway, now that you have your Soul Rune, you'll be returning most of my Magic Books now as promised, correct?"

Meruin nodded. "Yes, Master. Wait, what are you doing?"

Reina was packing a few things in a small satchel, including what looked like a camera. "Why I'm going to take a picture of course! What kind of Master would I be if I didn't take a commemorative photo of my apprentices' first step to becoming a great mage? Oh, I should invite Chase too! . . . Probably!"

"Hold on, you're coming here in person?!"

"With Chase yes." For the uninitiated, Chase was Reinas' Rival/Best-Friend, and a magician just as powerful as she was, but all her spells were more . . . explosion oriented. And now the both of them were showing up to take a photo with Meruin.
Phoebe moved through the crowd of mages clambering inside the Town Hall, the one place where none guild-affiliated mages could get missions. Each and everyone was busy snatching up a job application and handing it over to the counter. The people here were either mages that were just booted out of their guild, or people who just didn't do well with guilds in general. Phoebe was neither; she was fine with guilds and working with people, it just so happened that she didn't have a chance to join one in recent years. Most of the guilds she came across were to small and had little access to higher paying jobs, and Phoebe feared that by joining them her quest for knowledge would degenerate into a stop. Perhaps that was a bit rude to them, but it was true.

Quickly snatching up the closes notice she could, Phoebe weaved out of the crushing mob. Her invisibility was useful for slipping past lines, but once she got through that and into the crowd itself, it was largely useless. Well, it was over now anyway. The light mage took a seat nearby and read the mission in her hands:

BOUNTY: Unknown
Reward: 60,000 Jewels
Rank: C
Description: Help Blue Pegasus catch a thief who stole a tome of dark magics from their archives and murdered one of their members.

Reading the contents of the letter, Phoebe nodded to herself. This was a relatively normal job, with the one exception of a guild members death. That could become a problem. Whenever she did missions, she always did so on her terms: the terms being calm and methodical. The members of the guild could get vindictive depending on how close they were to their fallen guild member.

Phoebe sighed. Well, the pay is relatively good anyway, she thought. And the mission rank was rather low, so the chances of job safety parameters being skewed was minimal. She approached the counter. Much to her annoyance, the counter was taller than her. Yes, the counter, as in the table, not the person behind it.

While she was not height conscious, let it be known that Phoebe was extremely peeved of whenever her height got in the way of day-to-day life.

"Excuse me!" she shouted . . . sorta. Phoebe rarely raised her voice above a certain volume, so this could probably count as a shout from her. A startled accountant looked down from the high raised desk and through the glass that normal people usually had no trouble seeing through. She found a tiny Phoebe staring seriously at her.

"Oh, hello little girl, how can we help you?" she asked. Suddenly, she heard something snap and looked around hurriedly for the source. Phoebe glowered. "I. Am. Not. A. Little. Girl," ground out Phoebe, before calming herself. "I am here to inquire about a job, understood?"

The embarrassed looking clerk scratched the back of her head. "I am so sorry for the misunderstanding ma'am, it will not happen again! A-anyway, what was that you said about a job?"

"I'll be taking this one," said Phoebe, handing over the job paper. The accountant nodded and stamped her request. After inquiring where the guild was located, Phoebe exited the building.
Meruin's master looked at the paper, and nodded. "I see," she sighed. "Well, it looks like I lost that bet with Chase."

"Master?"

She shook her head. "We put up a bet between us on what kind of Soul Rune you were going to get. As you know, a Soul Rune is the first letter that shows up in your Grimoire, and it is the language of your soul that points out to what kind of magic is best suited towards you or what can make you happiest. I bet that you would be a 'research' or 'logic' type, while Chase bet you were a 'combat' type."

Meruin looked surprised. "Wait, so if lost the bet . . ."

Reina gave her a sheepish smile. "Yeah, it seems like you're a 'combat' type like Chase after all," she she snapped her hands and instantly the paper in Meruins hand disappeared, and reappeared in her hand. It should be noted that currently she is on the other side of the world. "To be specific, your rune has the marks Deception-Action-Patience-Skill-Objective-Knowledge-Timing-Subversion-Tools-Creative-Caution. Do you remember what that rune sequence means, Meruin?"

Meruin paused and scrunched her eyes in thought. There were an infinite number of Rune sequences, but it was possible to categorize them based on similarity. Meruin turned to her master in surprise. "T-that rune sequence . . . !"

"Yes," said Reina, still smiling. "Congratulations on finding your way, 'Assassin Mage' Meruin Hazy."
"Oho! I like this one!" said Reina while looking at Tyler, resting her head on her hands. "And what's this about you 'kicking ass'? You were never much of a fighter when I was teaching you, Meruin."

"Ah, well, there are circumstances behind that. Actually, it's related to why I wanted to talk to you. You see, I've activated my first Soul Rune," said Meruin. Her master opened her mouth in shock, before beaming proudly. "Oh Meruin! This is - this is wonderful news! You know, this means from now on you're officially my disciple and an actual mage! Oh goodness me, I - I think I'm going to cry! Quick, quick, show me how it looks like!

She fished a torn notebook page out of one of the books following her, and showed it to her master. The paper itself was magic, so anyone looking at it would be unable to see anything, excluding Meruin and Reina, who taught her the spell.
David raised his hand. "Can I make an actual log cabin out of the trees?" he said a tad sheepishly. "I ain't good with working on small stuff, but if its something bigger . . ."
The woman in the screen looked confused for a second, then her eyes widened a bit as she saw the reactions of the different people around Meruin. Actually, it was more like she now realized that there were people around her. "Meruin! Are you a that new school you were talking to me about! You should have warned me, you know how most people react to my aura!"

"Yes, I remember quite well. We first met when you teleported inside my tree house while hunting a dragon and sent me into a coma for three months with your presence alone," stated Meruin succinctly. Her Master frowned at the memory.

"That's beside the point! A-anyway, hold on for a moment, I'll have to contain myself so you don't have to talk to me with barriers on," she said, snapping her fingers. A coiling sound was heard and the womans aura receded back into the screen. "There! Now, what was it you wanted to talk about?"
