I was thinking about making up a couple abilities for dagger that revolve around crippling and DOT effects seeing as daggers are normally meant for causing crippling damage rather than straight up killing in combat.Like have one called "hamstring" where you slash at the target's legs to decrease their movement speed...Or lacerate where you slice at the enemy's arteries and cause them to take bleeding damage over time.

wait i have a crazy theory. think about yourself. you know what you look like head to toe right? well, most people do. if you look in the mirror while ingame, maybe its that you recognize its you then from that memory in your brain, the gear gets that image and turns it into your avatar.im not good at explaining, but do you see what im getting at. I dont have to look in a mirror to remember what i look like, however maybe the mirror actived something in your brain that made you think about your appearance. i said its crazy, but since we're throwing out theories, how about that one?

That's actually a really good theory... but the problem with it is the Homunculous (or however it's spelled) the diagram of the human body according to sensory perception... You do not TRULY register your body as you SEE it, but as you FEEL it. when rubbing something with your fingers, it always seems larger than when you see it (especially so when using a non-dominant hand) http://static.ddmcdn.com/gif/brain-homunculus-a.gif

So by that... if it's going off of memories scanned, then it could possible horribly eschew proportions.

Then if it's how you percieve yourself, what about people with phantom limb syndrome? or those who don't truly see their bodies as they physically are like some anorexic people? they feel and see things about their body that aren't truly there.

Then as for taking sexual identity from the mind... what about transgenders? They don't identify as the sex they physically are.

So the most plausible excuse for them having true gender data, is that the players had their own profiles on their headsets that have their RL information.

It definitely was in fact linked up to the brain so There had to be a way to tell the sex of the player and same thing about touching only their knees and elbows the nerver gear intercepted these signals so if they did touch those places continuously I am sure it would detect it

Just looking at a brain doesn't give enough information to check the entire body. it would be like figuring out what a house looked like from a single brick.

the game gear isn't working as if their bodies were moving, it's just taking the commands they send to their body and instead having it move their virtual selves. It worked fine before the mirror because they weren't trying to move their own bodies, they were moving the virtual form they had taken, and they had their own proportions (Take the one guy who played as a girl for instance... he was about four inches shorter than the guy he was clinging to, and then after the mirror he was taller than him)

Have you ever had a DS and just half-assed the calibration tests? if it accepts it, then it will completely throw off where you're touching... So in theory... if someone were to half ass their calibration, it could throw off their scale in game when they used the mirror...

THEN there's also the fact that the VR headsets can be used for numerous different games... so chances are each headset has its own profile since they have their own local memory... So chances are the guys who played as girls made their overall profile to their true gender, and THAT is how the game got their true gender.

Edit: Robo did you see my idea for the two dagger skills?

@lonepupIt syncs with your brain right? wouldn't there be some kind of way for it to tell your gender from your brain.

not really. the only major difference between male and females other than physical attributes is hormone production. You can't tell the difference between a man or woman just by scanning their brain. That would require bloodwork to tell hormone production... and even then there's plenty of disorders that can mess with that.

@LonePupHmm that's pretty interesting but it seems with that mirror even if you chose to be a girl it reverted their sex back to male so they wouldn't be stuck having to wear female equipment

it only effected their physical appearance though. it didn't change their physical capabilities and they still stayed game oriented... who's to say that the mirror would completely change EVERYTHING about their in game data? after all... the calibration didn't have them masturbating so how could the game gear actually get data on their sex?

Edit: OOOO!!! and what if they were screwing around with their calibration and only touched their knees and elbows or something instead of doing what the calibration told them to?
... another random thought about SAO...

what would happen to all the men who played as women and via-versa? That would be a hilarious character idea >.> have a male player make a female character... and then because of this decision he's forced to wear female armors/equipment for the rest of the game after using the mirror...

and I wonder what would have happened to a person if they DIDNT use the mirror... because I know a lot of people who just get event items and save them to sell later on because they're rare... what if someone didn't grab the mirror out of their inventory? and then after seeing what happened to everybody else discarded it?
soo... it doesn't appear as if Kylie is gonna be getting on tonight... so I'm going to go to bed before I hit that loopy level of exhaustion I did last night... sooo... night all
OOOOH!
Who the hell is this whimsical you keep going on about...?

I have. But it's on the back burner as the other GMs are quite busy at the moment with real life stuff and we haven't gotten to discuss it yet.

I believe Shadow likes my idea ^^
