About Me

I'm a roleplayer by night, but by day I'm a software engineer. I have been programming in some capacity since I was eight, and once I discovered programming I simply never stopped writing code. Some of that code I've written was for this very website, and maybe some day I'll add some more. However, most of my work is done in boring corporate land.

I discovered programming in a game called ROBLOX, and coincidentally that is also where I first discovered roleplaying. One day I was exploring the forums, and noticed a roleplaying section. Curious, I took a look and I was instantly hooked. The content was mostly in the Free RP level, with a small amount of Casual tier games, but at the time even that was high quality content to me. Over the years my interest in the game faded, and although I continued programming after ultimately leaving the community, I did not continue roleplaying.

Years later, I gradually started wanting to get back into roleplaying. I began googling around, and after looking at a few different websites I finally decided that the Guild seemed to be the best of them all. I made an account on December 13, 2014, and started jumping into some games; I quickly decided on sticking to mostly High Casual, but eventually moved more towards Advanced as I realized that most of the games I was in were easily at that level anyway. This was right around the time that Mahz was working on rebuilding the website from the ground up, and after chatting with him for a while in the IRC during some site downtime I decided that I wanted to help.

I ultimately didn't contribute too much, but nevertheless I was the first (and so far, only one of two?) non-anonymous users to help Mahz with developing the website. As a reward, after he implemented the trophy system I was awarded the special Benevolent Cyberpunk trophy, which gives me a special userbit that looks like this:

Collab between McHaggis and I **2nd of December, 1999** Aldenberg Manor was suspiciously quiet, for the base of operations for what would be a dangerous, possibly fatal rendezvous with an as of yet unknown Death Eater. The ‘spy’ would either be useful, or damn the entire resistance. _It’ll be fine,_ Siobhan reckoned against her better judgement as she carefully strapped her wand holster to her leg and flung a lighter winter’s cloak over her shoulders. Being a part of the away team for a mission as crucial as this was a rare occurrence, mostly because Ronan hated the possibility of being down a mediwitch if things were to go south. That she was actually permitted to go was nothing short of a miracle, the results of months of nagging. The plan was simple: the main strike force would Apparate in, each to a different street for maximum security-slash-paranoia. Then, they had to deal with whatever awaited them be it a repenting Death Eater willing to share secrets and information or one who just wanted to turn in the heads of a few members of the Ashes for some extra kudos from Voldemort. There was so much that could go wrong, for such a simple run, but Siobhan prided herself on being an optimist and an optimistic mindset she would force herself into even though her stomach was churning with nervous butterflies. Eric walked into the room, and greeted Siobhan, who was geared up and ready for the possibility – the inevitability, the more wary members of the organization felt – of a battle. He put on a light cloak himself, standing next to her. “Has Kyle reported in with the results of his reconnaissance yet?” he asked her. _It’d be a shame if we find out this is a trap,_ Eric thought. A spy could truly be useful, and a nice, friendly chat wouldn’t bother Eric one bit either. Siobhan smoothed down the front of her robes. “By Patronus, yeah. If I remember correctly – which I do, of course, because it’s important – there was no sign of any dark activity in the area. No ambush in sight; however, it would be a pretty poor ambush if they _were_ seen, right?” Eric nodded, tempted to laugh, but preventing it due to the weight of the situation. “A poor ambush, indeed. I suppose we’ll have to be extremely careful, even if everything looks clear. We can’t be too sure, although I’d love for this to be nothing more than a chat,” Eric agreed. “You know where you’re Apparating to? I’d hate to have to fix up a splinching,” Siobhan asked, and was answered almost immediately with a nod. “Good. I believe Kyle’s still out scouting. We can never be too careful these days, you know? I’ll be fetching him before heading down to the cafe. Could always use another strong fighter to defend our backs while we whip out the ol’ Diplomacy.” Eric nodded again. “I just hope that Jia doesn’t get too uh– _carried away._ If this turns out to be a legitimate turncoat, it’d be a damn shame if we ruined it by being overly aggressive.” “You mean hitting the guy with a wee avada keda-vy?” Siobhan asked, without even the barest hint of humour. This time Eric couldn’t help but laugh, unable to stay serious despite the mood the situation had blown over Aldenberg Manor. “Hey! I’m being serious here!” Eric hastily stifled his laughter. “No, you’re right. I definitely wouldn’t put it past her, I’m afraid.” Eric paused, before continuing, with the slightest hint of a laugh sneaking its way back into his voice: “_Wee avada keda-vy? Really?_” Siobhan sniffed, chin tilted upwards in a perfect picture of pureblood superiority – almost as if she wouldn’t lower herself to dignify the question with a response. As she walked to the door of the manor, however, she stared at Eric with the corners of her lips turned downwards. “I trust my allies, Eric,” she said carefully. “Right up until the moment they send a curse at my back.” Eric paused, realizing something. “Speaking of our allies, where has Jia gone?” he questioned, although not expecting Siobhan to be able to answer. _Jia was likely preparing for a war, not a diplomacy mission,_ Eric suspected. “Getting ready,” Siobhan replied with a shrug. “If things _do_ take a turn for the worse, she’s the one I want there, ready to do what needs to be done, even if it is… excessive.” The witch decided that was the best time to take her leave, marching outside to the edge of the wards through sodden grass and mud that sucked on her shoes. The moment she felt the wave of magic pass over her – the empty, unprotected feeling – she disappeared with a violent crack. Eric followed her out, closing the door behind him. He wielded his wand – for all he knew, there might be a Death Eater staring him in the face the second he arrives in London – and as he passed the magical border separating the manor from the rest of the world, he shuddered. After being in a place of such concentrated magic for a while, walking back into the ordinary air never failed to feel incredibly odd. Deciding to exit with style – regardless of the fact that he had no audience to be fancy for – he spun on the spot, his cloak trailing behind him, and vanished with a satisfying crack, much like Siobhan had done just moments prior.

Everyone, please keep in mind that the entire website was rewritten from _scratch_. There are guaranteed to be issues, as well as features that haven't been rewritten yet. Stuff like this takes time, and we all just need a bit of patience. Now, to answer some questions: > Total PM count is broken for me - it is displayed as 81, when in fact it is nearing 200. I believe the counter now displays the number of inbound PMs, instead of every single one (it doesn't count your own PMs anymore). >Still impossible to access the site via roleplayerguild.com; all cached information has been cleared a couple of times, so this shouldn't >be an issue. Mahz is working on this, to my knowledge. >Do I understand correctly that BBCode/HTML-style tags are going to be brought back? (and many other formatting questions) Yes. As I said above, not everything has been re-implemented yet. BBCode will be back soon (presumably after more important things have been taken care of, but I can't say that with certainty since I'm not mahz). As I said before, we just need some patience here. >Oh yes, I remembered - the formatting tends to take its time to kick in (I am writing this for a rather powerful PC that typically loads >script-heavy pages instantly, Firefox browser). The formatting is rendered when it shows up on your screen - it doesn't instantly render, because first it needs to detect that it needs to render, then actually do it. This will be fixed whenever mahz is able to find a good solution. As for it not working _at all,_ that's news to me. But again, that should be resolved once mahz finds a solution to it. >In-thread online markers haven't been implemented (same as forum-view Subscribed-markers). I think you get the idea by now.

> One what coding does this use? The new guild uses node.js, and PostgreSQL to handle the database.
Bump requested by GM.
McHaggis, Kirah and I just finished an absurdly long collab post which explains what has been going on with Mia. It takes place in the afternoon, after the failed raid and before the Ashes meeting. There's an entire page worth of French! Courtesy of me (translations included in the footer for everyone)
1st December, 1999 - Aldenberg Manor
Eric Friedman

As Eric walked into the manor, he looked at the sky and sighed. He knew the meeting had already begun - he spent too much time talking to his Ministry insiders. He entered the meeting room ready to apologize for his tardiness, and he heard Kyle saying something about drinking Polyjuice and doing recon; for what, he didn’t know. “Sorry I’m late, I was meeting with my insiders,” he apologized to Ronan. Turning to Kyle, he added, “Care to fill me in?” as he walked to his seat and sat down next to him.

After he was brought up to speed, Eric looked down at the table for a moment as he thought it over. Albert did have a point. We have no idea who this person is, and we would be meeting him at a location of his choosing. It is very reasonable to suspect that this is a trap, and if it were to be one, we’d be walking right into it - Jia was beyond persuading otherwise on the matter, and both Kyle and Siobhan would be going as long as the other was. However, Jia is right. There is no doubt that if we don’t meet this man, we won’t get another chance to gain an agent so close to the Dark Lord. And Siobhan was right even more so than Jia. The man invited us to conversation, not to force him to comply with us, or else be killed. He’d likely appreciate the fact that we are open to having a conversation with him, as opposed to just dragging him off to some secret location where we can interrogate him. Eric nodded to himself, his decision made.

“I agree with Siobhan,” he said slowly, looking up. “He must be high up the ranks if he’s concerned about his identity being revealed. The Death Eaters don’t even know the names of the low-ranking members, so he’d have no reason to be afraid to give his name… not that he’d be any use to us in that case, anyways.” Eric paused, looking around at everyone in attendance, before continuing: “I will go with Jia to talk to this supposed ‘friend’. He says he wishes to have a chat, so a chat we shall have. Not only will I be able to offer a friendly chat to him more so than Jia - no offense, Ms. Shang - but I can Obliviate all the Muggles in the cafe. Nobody will ever know about our meeting besides us.”
I decided to make a new character. The sheet is on my first post alongside Luther's.
2nd December, 1999 - Luchino Cafe, Tottenham Court Road, London
Luther Cunningham

Luther heard Big Ben chiming the midnight bells in the distance as he entered the cafe where he would soon be meeting a representative of the Ashes - who, he suspected, wouldn’t have any intentions of speaking to him on friendly terms. No, he would likely have a wand in his face immediately. What about the Muggles that are in here, however? Although most wizards aren’t likely to care about the Statute of Secrecy given the state of things, but Luther would rather avoid any breach of the wizarding world’s most important law where possible. But the key question is how? Of course! I’ll just Confund them; if no Muggles are present, no Muggles will witness anything undesirable.

Luther drew his wand, and as the Muggles began to notice, he aimed at each one in turn and murmured, ”Confundo.”

One by one, the Muggles began to pass Luther, mumbling excuses as they do so. “Oh dear, I’m going to be late for work!” he heard the barista say as she rushed by, leaving the espresso maker running. Luther chuckled, and with a flick of his wand, a cup floated under the flowing stream, and with another flick he turned the machine off and drew the cup towards him. Luther took a sip as he sat down, and returned his wand to his pocket.

It was only midnight of course, and Luther had said for them to be there at three. He had a feeling, however, that they would come early, either to scope the place out first or to be waiting for me before I even arrive - Hell, thats what I’d do - so he probably wouldn’t be waiting three hours. Nevertheless, he would definitely be waiting for a while. Good thing I have this coffee to keep me awake, he thought as he took another sip of his drink, and settled down in his booth for a long wait.
Also interested. Sent you a pm.
