Bio

After a period of different distractions in both my work and private life I am back! Hoping to throw myself back into RP and to help create some wonderful and memorable tales.

I am a dedicated and reliable RPer with a fondness for sci-fi, character study, fantasy and intrigue. I generally go for RPs that are in the casual to advanced ranges and have no problem posting a paragraph or two. I am easy to write with and am not precious about making edits or changes to a post to accommodate others. I don't have a preference as far as writing for a particular gender/sexuality/morality goes but I generally find writing child characters quite difficult.

I do my best to be available to post at most times but work nights for extended shifts so have to work around that. I won't abandon a story though and am usually very punctual at replying to messages so feel free to get in touch!

There's been a few comic series based on the idea of everything happening in real time. My favourite was Batman/Superman Generations which did told a narrative going over a few lifetimes with the idea that everyone was aging as normal (except for superman) but this meant that new characters came to be prominent and take over.
I gather Spidergirl had a similar idea?
<Snipped quote by TimeMasterX>

I feel like Jason's murder was highly effective at the time it was done but I honestly hate the fact that they resurrected him. I get that 'no one stays dead in comics' but I really though Jason being dead was great because he served as a warning. Now that's undone, same with Damian's death. It's well known I hate Jason but likewise it's also known that Damian is one of my favourite characters (who I for some reason forgot to name yesterday...) but I really feel that Damian coming back from death undermines the effect it had when he died.

Now to go off on a slightly different tangent, I don't think Superman coming back from death undermines it at all. This is because I see Superman as a Christ or Resurrection figure. And I know I'm not the only one who sees him this way, numerous media go out of their way to ensure they put the symbolism in your head. Heck 'Jor-El sent his own son to Earth to save its people' sounds awfully familiar. The 'S' on Superman's chest doesn't stand for 'Super', it doesn't mean 'Hope' in some alien language. It means 'Savior' because Superman came to save us from ourselves. So for that reason, I think Superman rising from his grave, rejuvenated and conquering death reinforces his themes as opposed to undermining them.

And hey if you want to run with the 'Hope' theme instead, Superman coming back just shows that 'Hope never dies.'

I don't mind resurrection when done well, I think Jason's resurrection was a much more interesting story than his death was with the whole Red Hood thing.
The part where I have a bit of a problem is where there can be no progress because no one ages or dies anymore. Marvel put more change into their books but even then, everything goes back to the status quo whenever a film comes out.
@Lord Wraith
Unfortunately their competence is more often than not sacrificed to make the villain more threatening. How many times has Robin been captured and nearly killed just so the villain can look better/more evil? Ditto for Jason's murder. It was at that point in comics when they were pushing everything to become darker and so they kill Robin in the most vicious way they can think of.
@Lord Wraith

Oh I'm not saying you bring that damaged, psychological wreck into a Batman film! I'm saying if you're going to have a Robin, don't make them the liability that Batman has to be saving every ten minutes. Make film-Robin capable of holding their own regardless of the situation, make them the sort of person who's been trained by Batman but can do it with a grin.
My personal opinion is that the whole young sidekick wouldn't work from a newly created character nowadays. The idea of a (supposedly) sane and mature adult putting a child in danger doesn't generally sit well with a lot of people. Having said that, it can work so incredibly well. Look at Kick Ass, while clearly a parody of Robin the character of Hit Girl is awesome and can fend for herself better than a lot of the other heroes out there. (If they introduce Robin in these new films, totally the approach I'd go for.)

In terms of Legacies, Arrow does it well enough with Speedy (to the point I could see Thea taking over the show if Stephen Amell wants to go) and it's looking like the Flash is gonna head in that direction eventually with Wally West. I would say though that it only works because they spend a lot of time on these characters in a way that most films and even comics can't.

@Morden Man I'd rather not see John Blake, to me that was a bad example of the movie wanting to have its cake and eat it too but that's probably a discussion for another time :P

I do think similar-age partnerships are the way it'll go, in the movies at least.
Just a shortish post to start off, figured I'd get the ball rolling :)

As long as one man stands against you, you'll never be able to claim victory.
-Steve Rogers, the Silver Surfer

Antartica, Earth

A star was falling to Earth, a silver comet rushing down towards the approaching cold wastes of the Arctic. Many would dismiss it as a natural, if beautiful, phenomenon; no more worth notice than any freak weather condition. But this was no falling comet, no meteor shower. The silver haze that surrounded the plummeting object was just that, haze, used to obscure its source from prying eyes. For if you were there on that day standing on the snow and just happened to be looking up to the heavens then you would see that the object falling towards you was a very recognisable shape.

But no one was there, not a single naked eye saw its approach and not a single creature stirred. For that was the plan, the entry point was deliberate in its obscurity. No one would see because no one was meant to see.

So no one saw the silver haze fade and the figure behind it come into the fore. He was a man without noticeable features and smooth to the touch. There was a reflective sheen around him that was only noticeable due to its cracked and worn appearance. He was perched atop a board and appeared to be trying to maintain his balance against the whirlwind of air and gale force winds that were buffeting his descent even as he plummeted. He barely had time to grab on tight to the his conveyance before-

WHAM!!!

The impact of the figure hitting the Arctic floor would be registered on seismic measuring systems from the world's leading scientists right down to the experiments done in classrooms around the planet, so powerful it was. Snow and ice were struck with such force that if the kinetic energy didn't cause it to melt, the remnants of the landscape were sent momentarily into the air.

The figure lay motionless, the shock of the impact had caused him to lose consciousness and he knew nothing more. His board lay beside him, abandoned for the moment and feeling the effects of the collision every bit as much as its master. Both lay in the crater of their impact until slowly, tentatively as though afraid to wake the slumbering figure, the snow began to fall once more.

Character You Wish To Play: Victor Von Doom

Moral Alignment: Doom

Affiliation: Latveria

Character Origin & Backstory:

Victor Von Doom was born in the hills of Latveria in the camp of wandering gypsies, on the night of his birth there was a terrible storm and lightning struck the camp, some said it was a bad omen and talked of casting the newborn babe out but Doom's mother proudly declared that the Gods themselves had failed to kill her son and that no mortal would do any better. He was named 'Victor' to honour his first triumph against the very heavens who wanted him gone.

Victor was raised in the travelling group for a few years, he had few friends except for a girl called Valeria; Victor was also taught basic arcane tricks by his mother and, being a child, he thought nothing of this. It was a happy existence until local soldiers came for his parents. His mother was charged with witchcraft and was executed on the spot, when Victor's father intervened he was shot also. Victor was soon expelled from the travelling gypsies who called him a bad omen once more.

Victor left everyone knew and Latveria itself, heading to America.

Victor spent many years in the states, his mind proved well-suited to learning the sciences and he greedily absorbed all the knowledge he could. The US Military located Victor and co-opted him to work for them developing new weapons for their forces. Unfortunately Victor's skill did not save him from a tragic lab accident. His face was grievously scarred by the incident and Victor left America soon after. He blamed the American need for progress for pushing him too hard and causing his injury and so ensured that all his creations were destroyed before he left.

Doom's life then consisted of travelling, he explored many areas of the world where no one had documented and learned many teachings from the wise figures he found; not limiting his education to (as he saw it) Western science, Victor broadened his understanding of the Arcane and Magyks of the world. It was here he began to refer to himself as 'Doctor' and clad himself in hooded garments to hide his deformity. During this period Doom visited such remote regions as Wakanda, the Savage Land, and even travelled to Hell.

Seemingly accidentally Doom ended up in Latveria and, seemingly without reason, he launched a coup and took over the kingdom in quick succession. Within weeks he reorganised the country into a thriving and productive nation. He maintained a cordial if distant relationship with the United States, preserving Latveria's independence. For its part, the US publicly decries the dictatorship of Von Doom whilst privately maintaining his diplomatic immunity and purchasing his weapons which have ended up in the US military and the black market alike.

Powers and Abilities:

Dr Doom is a highly proficient practitioner of magic making him capable of great feats of sorcery with an strength that is difficult to quantify. He is capable of unleashing his magic in forceful blasts but usually chooses to concentrate his magic on great feats of power such as telekinesis and teleporting.

Doom is categorically a genius, easily of the same calibre of Reed Richards, Tony Stark and others. He has turned his great intellect to revolutionising his homeland of Latveria, which is now a shining beacon of progress (at least on a technological front). In addition, he has created many technological creations such as his robotic copies, the Doombots and more advanced weaponry than has been seen anywhere other than Stark Technologies.

Doom's armour is well known and the monarch is never seen without it, capable of withstanding a beating from multiple super-powered beings and the harshest of conditions, the armour functions as protection, a survival suit and an arsenal of deadly weaponry all on its own and its casing has been protected with the most powerful magical wards that Doom can place. His armour is capable of unleashing deadly bolts or rays of electricity and has a powerful inbuilt forcefield. Doom often carries multiple handheld weapons and gadgets on his person for all sorts of scenarios.

Castle Doom, Latveria
The shadows shook when Doctor Doom returned. As though anyone hiding within had taken a breath to steady their nerves at the sight. But no one was hiding in the shadows, no one would dare, Doctor Doom was back and no one could hide.

Doom knew the castle as intimately as he knew each and every inch of his armour, they were both made to his exacting specifications. Unforgiving and cold.

Doom had barely walked through the great doors of Castle Doom's entrance when the servants arrived. They busied themselves with the task of taking their master's cape, checking his armour for any imperfections and providing updates on anything, anything at all that had occurred in Latveria while he had been away. Doom barely noticed them anymore, they were performing their duty and doing so well, that was all that was needed. Not waiting for them to keep pace or remove themselves from his path Doom strode through the small mass of menials and made his way purposefully to his throne room.

The throne of Latveria was a marvel of technology, like all Doom's creations, it allowed a single person to activate and use all the means Doom had installed to run Latveria. From that throne one could quite literally control the entire country with the touch of a button. Like a great deal of the technology in Latveria the throne was imprinted to Doom's DNA and quite fatal to any who attempted to gain access without Doom's express permission.

Which is why Doom was beyond stunned to see another figure sitting atop it.

The figure was facing away from the room's entrance towards a giant screen that illuminated the room. The screen showed a very detailed map of New York, the very place that Doom had returned from; as with all Doom's surveillance the map showed key points of interest labelling the city along with key and vulnerable features marked in notable hues. The indication was clear, whoever was trespassing in Doom's throne was clearly intending to use the resources he had accrued in a pointless attack on the American city.

The figure gestured and the large throne swivelled to face Doom. The figure on the throne wore Doom's signature armour, green garments and even his iconic mask accompanied by a green hood. In short, Doom was facing one of his own Doombots.

'What is this?' Doom's voice was cold and held the metallic tint of a voice obscured by a mask.

'Excellent, you have returned. Update me on the progress of our work in New York.' The sitting copy's voice was richer and resonated with more force than Doom's own, a clear sign of a duplicate.

'Rise, you have forgotten your place.'

'I-' The copy appeared momentarily confused. 'You dare question me?'

This was always happening, Doom mused under his mask, Doombots allowing their programming to make them forget that they were Doombots in the first place. Clearly a problem he would need to address.

'I order you now, speak! Detail the progress!'

'Enough of this charade.' Doom raised his arm, preparing to unleash an electronic pulse that would render the Doombot incapacitated. The Doombot did not move, it would be unable to anyway, Doom had installed many safeguards in his creations including programming that rendered them unable to attack their creator.

Doom activated the electronic pulse and...nothing happened. He tried again and still nothing. Now he was genuinely mystified; perhaps his armour had been hacked somehow or some virus that interfered with his weaponry.

Indeed, Doom was so confused that he didn't notice the copy rise from the throne and raise his arm in exactly the same fashion that Doom himself had done moments before.
What Doom did notice was the shock of electricity that ran through every nerve in his body, his armour shut down immediately and he felt himself fall to the floor, numbness setting in. His senses dulled and he found it difficult to see through his mask.

But he heard the laughter.

The copy stood before him. 'You, like many before you,' it spoke drily, 'are just another failure born of Doom's brilliance.'

With that, the standing Doom, for that was who he was, reached down and wrenched the head of the Doombot, for that was what it was, from it's shoulders. He held it aloft, almost fondly, before turning and striding back to his throne. With a simple movement he deposited the Doombot's head onto an arm of the throne.

Immediately information of the Doombot's progress filled the screen, days of work and many activities were compartmentalised and given order in nanoseconds before appearing on the large screen. Doom analysed the information in silence before rising once again from his throne and beckoning to Boris. The old man stood to one side of the room, out of distance of any potential danger that the Doombot could have caused, at Doom's gesture he approached the throne.

'My Lord?'

'The time has come Boris, prepare my private jet.' Victor Von Doom surveyed his map one last time and knew that the pieces had all fallen into place. 'Today we fly for New York!'

Boris nodded hurriedly and turned to leave.

'And Boris,' the old man stopped, Doom gestured to the ruined Doombot on the floor, 'Have that cleaned up.'

That would be great for good ole Cap but what I really need is a team song.

No... https://youtu.be/cVU4HURKEXs?t=2 THIS would be a great song for cap :P
So this is my character sheet for Dr Doom, hope this meets with everyone's approval and you all like the new directions he's going in. I might have a few more story/plot ideas that I put in later. But yeah, here you go! Any stuff I might have overlooked while relating the CS to this thread, please let me know!
