I'd say to make a beta. However, you could make them close to promotion to omega(drama #1 -- I can make that really drama-y). If you really want to spice things up, you could make them recently demoted from omega to beta(drama #2; ooohhhh).

Finally, interest. I think that would be cool, and players should be able to choose what year they're in. Of course, nobody wants to chill by themselves.
