I don't think it should be just one way or the other, I just want it to be whatever each player decides really. When a match comes up, the players decide between each other if they want to decide the outcome before or after and if they want to use collab posts and all that, and we'll just go by the in universe rules for the tournament
However, I'm not too keen on pre-deciding the matches for the tournament. I think if players want to pre-decide a match for dramatic flair, that can be an option to them, but I think it would be more fun to do it somewhat competitively.

Yeah, I'd prefer just letting the players decide, since that's more interesting. I mean, I know there are a lot of times where players just want their characters to win, but I can always just establish at the beginning of the tournament arc that the tournament is less about whether or not your character wins (I mean that's obviously what it is in universe, but in the meta sense it's not) and more about having a fun, exciting tournament arc

My suggestion (and this is just a suggestion btw), once the fights are set up, make a single post in the IC thread with setup and introduction and whatnot, then link to an Arena thread where the actual fighting will take place. This will help prevent chaos in the thread of multiple fights going on at once. The fight will go on for a set number of posts or time limit, or whatever is decided to be fair, and then a panel of mystery judges (players picked by the GM with no personal stakes in the fight) will assess the fight and decide who should logically win. The winner then gets to write a "finisher" post to put in whatever dramatic flair is needed for the story.

It requires a bit more work than just pre-deciding the winners, but let's face it, I think everybody has their own desires for the tournament outcome, and I think it should come down to combat roleplaying ability.

I dunno, I feel like putting a lot of details and rules into it and getting all formal like that might make the players want to make their characters want to win over making an enjoyable tournament arc. I already have a couple of rules planned in universe for what will count as a win and all that
ASA

"No, weapons are allowed. Just don't kill each other with them...obviously..." Asa said to the small kid in the panda outfit, muttering the last part under her breath. If Asa saw anything at all that looked like it would cause death, she would have to step in

Asa then walked up close to the arena and held her hand up. "3...2...1...START!" Asa shouted as she threw her hand down, signalling the start of the round

AKIKO

Less than a second after Asa shouted start, Akiko immediately took off and made a beeline for the opponent's flag. Due to either her confidence or stupidity, she was just simply running in a straight line and not even making her direction hard to predict. Just run in, take the flag, run out without anyone catching you. This was gonna be easy as hell, she was thinking as she made her first few steps over to the opponent's side
BTW, while we're on the subject, I have two exams planned and I'm not sure which one I'd rather do first, so I figured I'd ask everyone here for which they'd prefer. I guess this is kinda spoilers but eh, I don't think that's a big deal really

One of the exams are gonna be the tournament (obviously). Not much to say about this one, it's pretty self explanatory. The tournament is gonna be based a lot on Naruto's chuunin exams tournament and My Hero Academia's Sports Festival tournament

The other one is a sort of hunger games survival challenge type of thing. If you've seen Hunter X Hunter's Zevil Island arc or Naruto's Forest of Death arc, this will pretty much be a complete ripoff of both of them. Basically, all the students will be put into the wilderness and have to survive for a certain number of days, and are also all given items that they all need to collect from each other in order to win

So, which one do you guys think should be done first?
@Silver Carrot
The only problem is that there are some people who don't like doing collab posts
@Silver Carrot
Well spoilers, I actually DO have a tournament arc planned (wow a tournament arc in a shounen anime RP? What a spoiler!), it was gonna be one of the exams. A lot of the matchups were gonna be chosen based on the characters' relationships (characters that are rivals, characters that are friends, etc). I dunno if we have to choose how the ENTIRE tournament goes, I feel like all we'd need to do is just choose the winner in advance for each match individually (and probably do a lot of colab posts). Otherwise, I imagine the tournament would be really boring cause we know pretty much exactly what's gonna happen

@MacDuffy
I understand. I don't want players to be playing if they're not doing very well, so that's totally fine
@tipssyCalibrator Only if he needs to end up educating someone. Haha.

Excellent

Blue Team, Ryuuto's got his eyes on you... We can know check off the "glasses-wearing, conniving, veteran observing from the treetops" trope.

Will he do the *anime character with glasses* thing?

@tipssyCalibrator

Would the ability to manipulate earth (like rocks and sand and such) be considered a Wavecaster ability or an Architect ability?

Y'know, since all the other elements fit with Wavecasters, I was thinking earth would as well, but I guess it's technically more of an Architect ability

Also, how many years are students at the Institute before they graduate?

There isn't really a graduation, it's just as many years as they feel like staying until they feel they've learned enough (though they do have an age limit, which is 25). This is mainly because there is a heavy emphasis on the mentors doing the teaching. Typically most students leave after 4 years, but it's possible to stay more
Sorry for not posting until now, I wanted to try and wait for as many people as possible to post (without waiting too long of course)
