Opening Festival!

The warm season of summer seemed to opening be upon the island. Lush, green leafs decorated the tall trees. The forests and environment of the island was full of life. For those who had arrived on the island, a festival would be held to commemorate their new lives. The opening festival would be held for three nights in a row. For those three nights, the sky would be illuminated by fireworks of iridescent and opulent colors. Many colorful stands had been set up by the civilians and workers. Candied apples and firework stands, among other tiny, temporary shops selling knick knacks, had been put up. Different districts of the island were holding different festivities. The island was awake at night, and it seemed that everyone was out and about...

Gilbert Nightray lifted his head to stare up at the lively fireworks that illuminated the night sky. It seemed that even the stars, which gleamed coldly, were being blocked out by the rich, colorful lights. Being in such a new place, with much of his memories hazed out, had alarmed him at first. But there appeared to be no way off the island, even though he had not yet given up hope to return to his old life. The more time passed, the more he was certain that he had a life off of the island. That feeling only strengthened with the arrival of Vincent. Although the two weren't exactly on the best of terms, even Gilbert had to acknowledge the fact that it made him feel reassured to see a familiar face in the crowd. Not that most of the people here were unfriendly... But it seemed to be in his nature not to immediately trust others around him. He wasn't going to easy make friends with anyone here.

His piercing golden gaze flickered away from the night sky, and down back to ground level. He was near the back of some of the stands, where the lights weren't as bright or festive. The air was cooler back here, away from the huddled masses of people. The night provided him with time to think. As he leaned against a tall, fallen wooden log, his eyes closed momentarily. A small headache from all of the noise had begun to reach him, which was why he had sought out a quieter place to gather his thoughts.
