That moment when someone makes a terrible OC with a cringe self-centered plot and you have no idea how to react because you want them to indulge your own shit.

Magic and Murder

Genres:

School life, slice of life, murder mystery, fantasy and romance.

RP Size:

2-3 slots will be available.

General Idea:

Taking place at a highly regarded academy in the kingdom's capital city. The academy teaches those who have magical powers, how to control and hone them. Within the academy there are many students of varying capabilities and personalities. Those enrolled at the academy live there for six years before finally taking a graduation exam and get on with their lives. At least that was the plan for Retelia, a student who was found murdered overnight. Retelia was slated to take her graduation exam the following day, praised as a young genius who took only four years to reach the end of her education. The students either loved Retelia or loathed her.

With the academy's reputation on the line, it is imperative that answers are found quickly and quietly. The school calls upon a detective who rallies together a group of students to help the investigation. Together the group begins to dive into the secrets of the school and those who walk its halls. Everyone's a suspect as tensions rise and people begin to question their friends, teachers and lovers.

A Note About Magic:

Magic in this fantasy world is predetermined by birth. When a mother knows she is expecting, she will drink a special potion known as a Slixer. There are three varieties of Slixer: fire, water and air. The strength of a magic user depends on how much Slixer the pregnant mother drinks during pregnancy. There is no weakness or strength with the three elements and in order to activate their magical abilities, a user must use a summoning stone. Summoning stones contain the same elemental Slixer that now flows through their veins. Some mages are known to injure themselves and embed their own flesh with stones for more power but it tends to result in deadly consequences. Slixers and summoning stones are difficult to make and are pricey.

And it is possible for a mage to be able to use all three elements but those who can use two or all three, are considerably more weak. And over time, a mage will begin to lose their powers, the more they use them. And if they lose a lot of blood, their magic can literally bleed away. Lastly, it's impossible for a non-mage to gain elemental powers as the Slixer will poison their blood. Only mothers can help their growing fetus adjust and accept the potion over time.

A Note About Characters:

I will be GM'ing the staff, student body and detective. You will play as one of the main students in the investigation who is aiding the detective. Your character will somewhere in their late teens to early twenties. There is no age requirement or limit at the academy itself and people are able to join whenever they feel like it. But acceptable is tough to obtain and graduating is a very big feat. Your character can have one, two or three elements but should be someone who would be useful in an investigation. Like, they can't be the loner who has no friends, that wouldn't be useful at all. Maybe your character is on the school newspaper or the school gossip or something. Be creative.

Closing Notes:

I think this could be a fun combo. I want people to join who are eager to do something slice of life related, who like making posts about even the tiniest of details. I'm looking for people who are passionate about developing characters and interactions. I am not after long winded posts but I'm also not after just a paragraph or two. I think three to four is a good sweet spot to aim for. Yes, we will have posts of them in class, yes we will have posts of them eating together and training. There is little action here. If there is action, it's going to be rooted in the investigation. Think something like Death Note, this is more about putting a puzzle together than throwing fists and blasts of fire. The magic is an important element (aha) but it is not why I want people to join this story.

In all honesty I am using this to also try out my magic concept and my detective character but the setting and plot are something totally fresh and I'd love to make something fun with a small, friendly group who I can entertain with twists and turns.

Any questions or interest, let me know!

Also, better title is pending.
Yeah I figured if I took us too the morning it might get a bit lengthy heh.

And yeah writing is a good hobby I enjoy. I took a few in the summer and the workshops have always been fun, you meet a lot of neat people who are creative and help push your ideas. I think it's great to share writing, it encourages you to keep at it and to try new things. And yep, I enjoy editing. I'm probably more critical than most but I do try to be fair and helpful.

Behind closed eyelids, Hisano dreamed that she was back home with her family. Things were simple and they seemed to not need to scrape together food and supplies. Somehow they had everything they needed and yet outside the window people were dying. There were people on fire, somehow drowning, getting beaten. And yet life was perfect for the Mikano family. Flashes of white faded in and out as most of the scenes playing in her head were unremarkable and difficult to remember. In the back of her head there was still a bit of dread. What really stirred her from her hazy slumber was the sound of voices. Her body had already picked up on the fact the room had someone else in it. Perhaps it was the survival instinct awakening inside of her.

Hisano opened her eyes, her brain slowly beginning to register the words being exchanged between Talesin and someone else.

Her mouth felt dry. She pushed her body up and felt her shoulders stiffen and her neck ache. Emotions seemed to be taking a physical toll on the woman. Hisano looked to the stranger and then to the offer of breakfast. She felt a little queasy but knew she had to eat something. She grabbed the mug and took a few healthy gulps of the soycaf and dug into the eggs. Or what was meant to appear like eggs. She paused when Talesin mentioned they weren't out of the woods yet. Of course not. She set the plate down and gave them her full attention as she was given a burner phone. She had used something like it before but it had been a while. She looked it over and then back to the two men.

Talesin began to explain that she had to get off the grid. She was sure that was much easier said than done. Hisano figured now that she lacked real ties to anyone she loved, going off the grid wouldn't be such a horrible fate. It was better than death after all. She went back to eating, finding her stomach in need of fuel. Anything would do really. At the mention of someone she was looking for, she looked to the dark skinned man but it turned out he wasn't him, instead he was called Wire. Getting to her feet, she set the plate and mub back where she had found them. "Alright." She wasn't sure what she would need to do in order to get off the grid.

What would be asked of her?

Surely the kindness of strangers wouldn't carry her through this entire adventure. Hisano put the phone in her pocket and stuffed her other items, gun included back in her jeans. She looked to Wire, wondering how he and Talesin had met, probably a long time ago. But as much as she wanted to commit their story to memory, she knew there was no time for being sentimental. Hisano had to consider that she may not see Talesin again and knew he was already doing enough to attract trouble on her behalf. "I've said thank you enough times I know. But is there anything I can do to repay you? I came to you with horrible news and you helped me. There's gotta be something I can do you." Before she left with Wire, she needed to thank Talesin one last time and see if there was any good she could to do. Otherwise she'd always want to look back.
Yeah, I get that. -nod- It's up to you if you want to make a short post or none at all, just the lack of OOC acknowledgement didn't indicate you were still around so I had to double check. People are welcome to make collabs and they'll likely be easier to make once we get past this introductory phase and into the real story. Still I'd rather see an indication as GM, otherwise it's hard to tell who is still active and who isn't. The group we have doesn't seem like a talkative bunch and that's fine but if someone is going to pass on posting for a while for whatever reason (like Double did) it's better to let me know so I don't assume someone dropped. It's also a busy time of year which I get but I'm glad to know you are still here. -smile-
It would be a group in the area. More workshop than anything else, a few writing exercises and stuff, I'd offer editing for those who want an extra pair of eyes looking at their stuff. I'm crossing my fingers!

Aww I'm sorry you've been busy. It seems like a busy time of year for everyone but I think the holidays make it more worth it than usual!

Given we'd have two 'AI's with us, it would be interesting to see some kind of moral dilemma take place given a crime. I loved Data-centered episodes, they were always fascinating.

And I got a post, it's not great but I'm shaking off some rust haha. Let me know if you need me to add more though.
With her offer of assistance accepted, Nex quickly showed the two strangers out, not wanting to hear the kind of conversation that would be had in her absence. It was a lot to consider and it wasn't her place to pass judgement, merely to help guide others as needed. Nex led them along, deciding to only add bits of information about the Enterprise sparingly since she could tell the two were a bit guarded and likely didn't have a nagging interest in the ship or its facts. Nex could pick up a level of uncertainty but that was to be expected given how Gaheris and Rommie encountered their ship so suddenly.

Upon reaching the sector of spare quarters, Nex showed them inside Gaheris' quarters, gesturing to the one across the barren hall which would house Rommie. Looking to Rommie who seemed in awe of the simple replicator. "These have been standard for hundreds of years now, they can replicate food or tools and we even have one that is slightly different in which it transports a person from one location to another." Nex quickly explained, not wanting to get into the complicated history and research that the Federation had done going all the way back to the 22'd century.

"Whatever you'd like to eat, it should be able comply. If you have a recipe or can describe something it doesn't have in its bank, it does its best to accommodate you." Nex knew how leery Gaheris was but there was little she could do to ease his doubts. Both sides had reservations but in order to quell them, Nex believed in giving trust and then seeing if it was well placed, rather than refuse to give others a chance. She glanced to Worf who was still agitated by the whole surprise of Gaheris and Rommie. Not to mention the anomalies previously encountered. The day was not shy in serving up surprises.

"Lastly, should you require assistance or need to contact someone, simply ask. The ship has a computer program that acts as a database and means of wireless communication. However, since you're both guests, the computer will withhold security information if inquired. In fact, a lot of information will be unavailable to you but general information should be granted." Nex told them as she turned and headed for the door. "And if you need a drink or just want to mingle, Ten Forward is a bar where a lot of people go when they're off-duty. It has a great lounge and sometimes live music."

With that, Nex smiled before she moved her head, signalling for Worf to also take his leave with her. She didn't need the grump scowling at their guests and making matters worse between them. Now heading back to her own quarters, Nex was ready to deal with her own duties.

Once the room was clear, Picard rose briefly as he considered the notion presented to them.

In all of his time spent exploring the stars, Riker had learned that anything was possible, no matter how crazy it seemed. Still, to fathom such things was not something he wanted to consider unless they had proof. For him, ideas were intangible and needed to be grounded in reality. In truth. He sighed as his friend took his seat again. "If we're in unfamiliar territory then we need to make sure of it first hand. And if their...Commonwealth can help, we may need it." Riker noted. "I do agree though, they're hiding something which may or not prove dangerous but there cannot be secrets between us if we're going to assist one another."

"It's clear Gaheris is hiding something but the extent and context cannot be speculated. It's best we hear directly from him, what he's keeping from us. I'd rather not make Rommie turn on him and give us that information, that would raise a lot of red flags and not do much in our favor. I think I can talk to Rommie though, she seemed somewhat receptive to me. I think Beverly may be able to talk to Gaheris as well. Maybe she has some pull with him." He speculated before he got up. "We should talk to Data and Geordi before we send Gaheris their way, make sure they know the situation fully."

Riker wasn't looking to put pressure on the engineers or make them just as guarded as Gaheris appeared to be but with Data, it was better to talk things out than to let him assume something. Data could be too blunt for his own good sometimes. "I think tomorrow morning I'll ask that Beverly take a look at Gaheris' injury and then have Data show him around. In the meantime I can pick Rommie's brain a little bit. I'm sure Nex can confirm their ambivalence and maybe some rest will do everyone some good. I do think it's a priority that we figure out where exactly we are first. Maybe tomorrow Data and Gaheris will be able to do just that." He said.
I understand, I didn't mean to worry or neglect you. -frowns-

But the OOC is here!

The Games we Play

RP Includes: Tranquility and Rabidporcupine

Premise: Our RP takes place in London, modern day. Our characters are the best of mates and have a (secret) shared interest in gaming. Soon an online game is released, one our characters have been eyeing for several years during its development. Our characters have gotten part-time jobs to pay for it and finally get their hands on it upon its release. The game is a fantasy virtual reality. For whatever reason, one friend hasn't admitted they have purchased said game, having voiced ambivalence about it, and plays in secret. The two friends run into one another online, unbeknownst to them. Either they hit it off well or they don't.

We would then explore their offline relationship as best friends, and their online relationship, either as rivals or potential lovers. Will the truth be revealed when they want to meet offline or will the friend with the secret, finally admit it before then? I see our characters here, being in high school but it's possible they're in college or even the workplace. It's also possible to maybe have a same-sex romance develop? And yes, this is inspired by dot hack.

So our characters are starting college together, probably 18 or 18 years old. Maybe they've been friends since they were 12 or 13? So about five or six years or are you thinking a longer friendship or even a shorter one?

And since your guy is going to be the one secretly into the game are you thinking he'd claim to not like any games or just say, that one in particular?

Lastly, should we have them click in the game or see one another as rivals or something? The only challenge with the later option is that it's difficult to justify them teaming up if they're not on good terms.

And we should probably develop the game a bit unless you'd rather just let it happen naturally?

And regarding character sheets, do you want something basic or somewhat detailed? And anime pictures okay with you?

And we could keep things simple and say they're at East London University? Probably in dorms?
At the need to find a drink, the place to go without a doubt was Hogsmeade. While it was late, the shops were still open, well aware that that the teachers needed to let off some steam prior to school starting. Even though Fianna intended to go in the morning, she had no qualms about stopping into the village of shops for a drink. Hell, she'd climb through a blizzard if it meant there would be a nice pint of whiskey waiting for her on the other side of hell frozen over. Fianna showed Gabrial the area and he seemed quite enchanted by the simple homey shops. It was a gem and she was sure everyone who visited Hogsmeade, fell in love with it in some manner of fashion.

Students likely loved the freedom away from Hogwarts while others might love its homemade items or comforting beverages. No matter the glint in one's eye, there was something for everyone at Hogsmeade. At the mention of sweets and alcohol, it was easy to predict where the pair would end up settling. "Oh yes, it's a beauty in th' snow." She nodded to Gabrial. "I truly envy the lucky who get to work here, it must be a charmin' life to lead." She considered. Of course Hogsmeade didn't really open until Hogwarts did so it had to be seasonal work for the majority of owners, which was probably stressful. But every owner seemed to be proud of their work and not too stressed about making tons of money.

"A lot of these places have seen generations of witches and wizards grow up right in front of their eyes. Third years and up get to venture into Hogsmeade on the weekends but only if they're in proper academic standin' and have gotten permission from their parents. It's something a lot of students look forward to, a wee bit o'freedom beyond the walls of the school." Fianna said as she lead them to Honeydukes at the end of one of the small streets which were littered with cobblestones and bits of green grass poking around the flat weathered stones.

"Honeydukes is likely ta be your second home if it's sweets and booze you're after." She told him as she opened the door for him and stepped in after him. "They've got gobs of chocolate and candy, it's run by this adorable husband and wife. They've got a good supply of whiskey, wine and the like. But butterbeer is what they're known for. It's not terrible alcoholic but for the teachers, they do add a bit more for us." She nudged him a bit as she picked a small table and sat down, waving two fingers at the portly man behind the counter, signalling for two drinks. "It's sweet and tangy, like butterscotch mixed with whiskey. It's marvelous."
