DEATHWATCH - FIRST AMONGST EQUALS
PROLOGUE

For more than a hundred centuries the Emperor has sat immobile on the Golden Throne of Earth. He is the master of Mankind by the will of the gods, and master of a million worlds by the might of his inexhaustible armies. He is a rotting carcass writhing invisibly with power from the Dark Age of Technology. He is the Carrion Lord of the Imperium for whom a thousand souls are sacrificed every day so that he may never truly die.

Yet in his deathless state, the Emperor continues his eternal vigilance. Mighty battlefleets cross the Daemon-infested miasma of the warp, the only route between distant stars, their way lit by the Astronomicon, the psychic manifestation of the Emperor’s will. Vast armies give battle in his name on uncounted worlds.

Greatest amongst his soliders are the Adeptus Astartes, the Space Marines, bio-engineered super-warriors. Their comrades in arms are legion: the Imperial Guard and countless planetary defence forces, the ever-vigiliant Inqusition and the Tech-Priests of the Adeptus Mechanicus, to name but a few. But for all their multitiudes, they are barley enough to hold off the ever-present threat from aliens, heretics, mutations...and worse.

To be a man in such times is to be one amongst untold billions. It is to live in the cruellest and most bloody regime imaginable. Forget the power of technology and science, for so much has been forgotten, never to be re-learned. Forget the promise of progress and understanding, for in the grim darkness of the far future, there is only war. There is no peace amongst the stars, only an enternity of carnage and slaughter, and the laughter of thirsting gods.

The Deathwatch Space Marines serve the Ordo Xenos of the Imperial Inquisition as its Chamber Militant, the warriors of last resort when the Inquisition needs access to firepower greater than the Imperial Guard or a team of its own Acolytes or even Throne Agents can provide. Across the galaxy there are innumerable hostile alien civilisations that threaten Mankind, from the green-skinned Orks, to the monstrous Tyranids, sadistic Dark Eldar, spectral C'tan, and undying Necrons. It is the sacred task of the Deathwatch to stand sentry against all of these terrible xenos races. They are ready to act when such ancient evils rise to threaten Mankind once more. The Space Marines of the Deathwatch form the first, and often only, line of defence against these inhuman horrors.

Those Chapters which undertook the great oath that created the Deathwatch provide their most experienced xenos-fighters to serve in the Kill-teams, as do many other Chapters whose masters were not present to take the original oath, but who have since undertaken it. Most Battle-Brothers are veterans of a hundred alien wars before being inducted into the Deathwatch, but selection is not made upon length of service alone. In the main, it is those Battle-Brothers who have faced a broad range of alien threats and not only survived, but prevailed, learning and passing on new methods of defeating such foes.
These warriors have facedhordes of Tyranid creatures so vast they spill over the horizon, and never once given an inch of ground. They have stood face-to-face with such gargantuan beasts as Tyranid Carnifexes and walked away the victor. They are masters at hunting down such dread beasts as the Ambull and the Clawed Fiend, and know every deceitful ploy the Eldar are likely to utilise.
Aside from the obvious skill the warrior has displayed, perhaps more important is his purity of heart and his soundness of mind. To face the xenos is to bear witness to the most vile, depraved horrors that creation can produce, as if the universe had mutated and life itself turned against Mankind.

The process by which a Battle-Brother is selected for service in the Deathwatch varies, but the most common is by recommendation of the Chapter’s Captains, Apothecaries and Chaplains. Each of these is uniquely placed in their field to pass judgement on the matter, and it is usual that all three must agree before taking the matter to their Chapter Master. The decision as to whether to advance the Brother further falls entirely to the Chapter Master. The Chapter Master’s responsibility in this matter is grave indeed, for the oath of service to the Deathwatch is solemn and terrible, and in it is vested the last, best hope for Mankind against the dire prophesies of alien apocalypse. To present a Battle-Brother not equal to the task would do great dishonour to the Chapter in question, and could have ramifications for entire worlds.

Another way a warrior might come to serve is for the Deathwatch to make a general request of other Chapters in the region. The Watch Commander might visit each of these Chapters and make his plea to the Chapter Masters in question, or if circumstances do not permit such a nicety, he may transmit astropathic communiqués encrypted with the very highest of cipher-seals, or dispatch trusted Brothers of the same Chapter if at all possible, to make the request on his behalf.

In some cases, the request for service might come not from the Deathwatch, but from the Inquisition.

Service in the Deathwatch is understood by ancient convention to be limited to a single mission. In practice, however, a mission could be defined as a campaign or a vigil spanning an indefinite period of time. When chosen to serve in the Deathwatch, the warrior often bids his Brothers farewell as if he will never see them or fight by their sides again. Given the foes that he is likely to face, this may well be the truth. Some Chapters have developed highly formal rituals to mark a Battle-Brother’s departure for service in the Deathwatch. Some Chapters, such as the Storm Wardens, assemble the Brother’s entire company, or even the whole Chapter, to salute him as he leaves upon one of the Deathwatch’s blackpainted Thunderhawk gunships. Other Chapters convene a solemn service led by the most senior Chaplain, the massed ranks bowing their heads in prayer for their departing Brother. The Space Wolves engage in a raucous, night long celebration in which the Great Company’s cellar is drained, while in the Black Templars, the entire fighting company kneels in all night, silent vigil before a chapel dedicated to Rogal Dorn.

However the Battle-Brother’s departure is marked, he sets aside his service to his Chapter, if only for a short period, and turns his back upon his former comrades as he boards the waiting transport...

((Follow the instructions in OOC for the context of your first IC post))
((Please follow this format when at the end of each post, this will keep things more organized as things get more complex.))
(( Player Character Line 1 - Campaign/Episode - FIRST AMONGST EQUALS:PROLOGUE or something along those lines))
((Line 2 - Responses to Numbered DM asked dice rolls. More on that to come))
((Line 3 - Any OOC questions you want to ask DM about the encounter))
((Line 4 - Actions/Dice Rolls - More on that to come! No one should be rolling dice in this first IC post.))
Heros of the Imperium....Deathwatch "First Amongst Equals" OOC is now up & active in the Tabletop section.

Yes, spots are open. I am open to 2 squads at most, 10-12 players total. Once you are confirmed/approved by DM (me) your spot is secured. Just a friendly tip...you should have at least 1 apothecary per 5/6 players.

OOC & IC Posts are up, I hope you enjoy!
Thank you for taking an interest in this post!
My goal is to join the creativity and thoughtfulness forum RP allows with the practical application of tabletop dice rolls. What that means to me is two simple things - RP comes first! Dice rolls/stats/number stacking are just tools to move the scenes forwards. If you enjoy just stacking stats and breaking game systems, this campaign is probably not for you.
As DM, I will be using materials from: Deathwatch Core Rulebook, First Founding, Rite of Battle, Honour the Chapter, Mark of Xenos, Jericho Reach, Outer Reach, Ark of Lost Soul, Rising Tempest, Achilus Assault, Dark Heresy Core, DH:Daemon Hunter, Black Crusade, Errata ((mostly updated weapon stats)).

Dice Roller/Log-

You may use any version you like for a character sheet, as long as players information matches the DM!

RULES FOR PARTICIPATION:
1. Respect the Players! This includes your DM! I'm not in this to tell you "No", my job is to keep things balanced and move things along. I can be wrong, if you have an issue, PM me.
2. Respect the Lore. I love this universe, and hopefully you do as well! All I ask is you don't change any major things...For example...You may be a Wolf Guard to your favorite Wolf Lord, however, you may not be an established character. You cannot change history but you may just effect the future...
3. Respect the Rules. Making a tabletop game work in forums is difficult. Somethings may not apply or translate well. We are figuring this out together, please be patient. As often as I can, if it's in print, that's the rule.
4. No Spam!
5. Have fun!

If you are interested, joining this campaign goes as follows:
1. Register an account with www.orokos.com ((Don't worry, it's free!))

Name: Full name, rank, title ect. Who were you known as amongst your Brothers before your service in Deathwatch
CC Stats: Out of the 10 you rolled, drop the lowest, leaving you with 9. You may place the 9 in any order you see fit. Include your Wounds & Fate totals.

Demeanor: if you choose to roll, list the number and I'll let you know what it is. Otherwise choose from one of the following- Calculating, Gregarious, HotBlooded, Studious, Taciturn, Pious, Stoic, Scornful, Ambitious, Proud

((Don't worry, character creation is not done! I haven't forgotten anything, we are coming back to this shortly!))

4. Answer these questions: Have you played Deathwatch before? If so, do you have access to the materials?

5. Create an IC sample/introduction post. This is an opportunity to Godmode some things about your characters before we begin. Enjoy this moment while it lasts, these opportunities will be few and far between.
I am looking for very specific information included in this post though I don't particularly care on how you structure your post.

IC Post MUST INCLUDE: A physical description of your Space Marine. Descriptions/reactions/preparations for Deathwatch service. Your scene MUST END with you preparing to exit a Thunderhawk that has docked with an unnamed Battlebarge, moments before official conscription into Deathwatch. 4-6 sentences minimum.
Ideas/Hints: Each Chapter has different views on Deathwatch service; where were you when you found out? How did you prepare yourself? How was your last day spent? How did your Chapter recognize this? Any final words from a close friend, commander, or rival? Did you bring your armour with you or does your chapter keep it for safeguarding until your return? This is your chance to give us some insight to who you are!

GENERAL INFO/FAQs
This campaign will be locked at most 2 Squads of 8 Players total. Once your character sheet is approved by DM and Intro IC post is completed, you are 100% approved and locked in for play.
Participation is expected a minimum of every 2 weeks for combat rolls, you may post more for RP as long as it doesn't change an encounter we are already in (game mechanic). If you can't make it PM me. If you are gone an extended period of time DM control will kick in. (I try run other peoples characters as passively as possible, allowing for present PCs to make important choices. I will always look for a way to park an PCs character someplace safe/lore friendly, though I can't guarante saftey when dice rolls are concerned, it is what it is.)
Dice Rolls,Turn Actions/Order and general game mechanic issues will be addressed in future postings.
IC post may OOC directions or notes. These will be found at the bottom of the post in double brackets, example (( )) More on this later.
XP progression will be posted in OOC after missions are completed, you may spend XP during rest periods ((more on this later))
This post will be continually edited as we progress, thank you for your patience, please check back often!

Once everyone has completed these steps, or 3/16/14 arrives, we will move on to our first scene/encounter and we will do our next step of Character Creation. First PC to get DM approval gains +XP bonus!

I've been playing catch-up on life. I will have OOC Character Sheet Info and IC intro posted by the end of the week. Thank you for your patience.
Yeah CC and the whole 9 yards, working on the logistics of that though. I think I may have found a site that will record dice rolls w time stamps to keep things fair. Going home from hospital today, should have everything 100% in a day or two.

This will largely be forum based with rolls, aiming to have everyone post at least once a week.
As the first few Orks crashed through the underbrush, Kyros smiled.

After the crash,he had been the first one on his feet and had silently crept into the forest, preparing himself for the attack that was sure to come. He had not bothered checked on his fellow Astartes, trusting in their holy armor and genetic upgrades to see them through any damages they may have sustained. He had not bothered to check on the Guardsmen for lack of care, he did not see them as an asset, but as a liability.

He watched from his perch in a nearby tree as the surviving team members drug themselves from the wreckage and began regrouping. He shook his head in befuddlement when the Space Wolf sprayed the brush with his assault cannon. Under his helm, lip curled with contempt, he thought "They think themselves the Emperors most fearsome hunters? I will show them how a true predator kills!"

He watched as the Greenskins entered the clearing, a few falling to gunfire from the other survivors. As a group of 5 stomped below his positions he silently sprung into action. Leaping from the tree he let the bulk of his power armour slay the first as he landed on top of the rear Ork, armored boots reducing skull and collarbone to a wet paste. Flexing his hand his lightning claw flared to life, deadly electricity cracking between blades. As the other Orks slowly realized the menacing presence behind them, Kyros sprung forward.

Once a Shark had tasted blood, there is no stopping the frenzy. Kyros smiled again.
Sorry for the delay gents, I found myself hospitalized for awhile. Feeling better, but not great.

Rules- I have everything that is available in print, so collectively the sky is the limit. I would largely be drawing from the Core set, as that may be the easiest to start, but I am open to more developed/complex characters with discussions. If you have access to any/all the materials, I don't you drawing from that. Just try and keep things balanced...as in everyone is lvl1, so no Captains or Dreads off the break. Earn your glory!

Dark Heresy- I am open to having some of those classes involved in this campaign as well, I would only ask NO INQUISITORS, due to the fact I am viewing that class as a DM NPC. However, if you have a good story or reason behind it, I am open to hearing it.
Star Wars: Dawn of the New Republic Character Application

Screen Name: Uncle Mayhem

Character you wish to play: Rorwarrick (Rick for short)
Race: Wookie
Faction: Desilijic Clan Crime Family

Background:
Rowarrick left Kashyyyk at the fairly young age of 80 against the wishes of his family to find his fortune among the stars. For the first few years he traveled aimlessly, taking work wherever he could get it, not staying for very long in any one place. He would try in get jobs aboard transport ships as a cargo lift operator or in spaceport cantina kitchens, but due to his size and the fearsome reputation of Wookie warriors, he often found himself employed as a bouncer or bodyguard.
Shortly before the rise of the Galactic Empire, Rorwarrick had saved enough credits where he thought he should make his family happy and return home to find a mate. He was welcomed home in open arms and began a small butcher shop near a spaceport specializing in rare/dangerous local meats. Eventually he omet and married his mate, Liakmalla, and they had a male pup, Nagcuk. When the Empire took over Kashyyyk, Rorwarrick opted to not get involved in Wookie resistance, struggling to get by due to lack interstellar trade on the now occupied planet. Liakmalla hated this, but stood by her mate, hoping he was right in saying "this is all temporary, they are doing this to keep us safe".

In 19 BBY the Empire, no longer satisfied frustrated by the continuing gorilla-warfare of the Wookie resistance and needing a hardy, long lived workforce for their various secret super weapon projects, began the mass enslavement of Kashyyyk. It began with bombings. In the predawn darkness Imperial forces withdrew to fortified positions and waited. Shortly after the marketplaces and stands opened, the first bombs dropped. Tree-cites burned, whole sections of support bearing branches collapsed, throwing hundreds to their deaths. As the Wookies struggled to make sense of what was happening, the Stormtroopers poured forth from their positions, quickly eliminating any pockets of resistance. Trandosian slaveships swooped down, shock troopers repelled out the sides of the craft and began enslaving Wookie pups, usually killing the mothers.

Much to his shame, Rorwarrick was helpless to protect his family. In the first wave of bombings his meatstand was almost completely destroyed by a nearby blast, the shockwave sending his body hurdling against the wall, the flaming room caving in on top of him. He awoke restrained, his sense overwhelmed by the smells of burning wood, cooked meat and burnt fur. Groaning, he rolled over and gasped in shock as he came face to face with the open vacant eyes of his mate, Liakmalla. As the world came into focus around him, he roared in pain. All around him his people were in chains being hearded into pens and shipped across the galaxy. The Imperials took the majority, but the Trandosians were allowed to keep some captives as well, the pup Nagcuk was amongst them.
Rorwarrick was sent to a secret Imperial munitions plant in the Outer Rim, though he would never actually spend time as a slave on the production line. Rorwarrick was a difficult prisoner, attacking his captors or destroying supplies as often as possible and spent much of his time in solitary confinement or healing from beatings in MedBays. During recuperating for a particularly savage beating, he devised a plan to escape. Faking his death, he replaced his body with the corpse of another deceased Wookie slave and snuck into a munitions crate. Magnetically sealed, he was unable to open the crate and was discovered on the brink of fatal dehydration when it was opened by Puggdula the Hutt. He has been in her service ever since.

Character Class (choose one):
Bounty Hunter-Cook/Bodyguard/Gladiator/Enforcer

Items:
Ammo Bandolier made of Trandosian skin, belt/pack made from some other creatures skin, Bowcaster w variable scope, Heavy Blaster Repeater Pistol, concealable folding carbon-fiber knife, Ryyk Kerarthorr warblade x2, DataSlate, restraining bolt, bracers, med/long range comm unit, non-lethal grenades-flash,smoke,pepper. Spice/Stims (a reasonable amount for personal use).
Blaster Resistant-Chest Plate, thigh guards, shoulder pads.

Character Personality: Rorwarrick has a personal/cultural sense of morality that has forced him to justify many of his "questionable" activities due to ties to a smalltime crimelord Puggdula the Hutt & subsequent lifedebt he owes her. Although he may not agree with the reasons behind his benefactors instructions he is always careful to complete his assignments. He is secretly addicted to spice, originally only using pain suppressants during the day, he now is willing to try anything in private. He keeps this hidden from everyone.

Character Alignment (Choose one): Walking the Line

Do you know how to post pictures on the RPG Boards: Not yet.

Sample Post (write a sample post that is at least 4 paragraphs long and containing at least 3 lines of dialogue or meet the RPG Advanced guidelines of 12 lines):
WORK IN PROGRESS! I'm still working on all of this, just ran out of time.
I saw a post in the Casual section (which I love and encourage others to be a part of) but I already feel like I want a bit more structure/gameplay elements involved.

I have DMd Deathwatch campaigns before, usually 1 shot adventures due to party inconsistency. While I have always involved the action gameplay of the game, I always wished there was more of a narrative within our party and I truly think this is the place to get the best of both worlds.

I have never DMd through a forum before, but I think I get the gist of it. I am still working on the kinks of dice rolling accessibility and game mechanic stuff, but I figure I have time to refine that before people get involved. (Though it would be awesome if there was a flood of immediate responses!)

Scenario:
I want to start at the beginning, with each Space Marines conscription into Deathwatch service, training and squad assignments, ship placement and eventually deployment.

Ideally I would like to have 5-10+ participants, 8+ allowing the opportunity for multiple Kill-Teams. Once I get a solid 5 players, I will will start moving forward with this.

Thanks for reading!
