In one universe, there is a race that calls themselves a name that translates to atoms. The divide their people up and distribute categories at birth. Each is given an element, and their job in life will always be to do work involving that particular element. Everyone who doesn't get an element gets a government or civil service job, and their government is very secretive. Boom. Am I making this up? Yes, but it's probably a thing somewhere.

I never tend to like what I've coined the "common bandwagon items." Like the Steelers for football, Barcelona for soccer, the usual most popular character on a show, the best book/game in a series.
