I'd rather be alive with the hope of being free, yes. But making someone suffer is 100x worse than plain murder, in my eyes.

One of two things has occurred. I hate to say it, but he's either keeping Ceras alive for leverage against Alucard, or he has killed her to get into Alucard's head. I hope it's the former.
