Nope, as far as i know. The quantity of allowed USEFUL companions is around 4 low-tier ones, i think. But you can of course have tons of zero-tier cannon fodder, just dont expect the opponent to take any damage unless they deem it fair themselves. No rules do force them to take damage from those.
