Hi, I'm not very good at introductions, so I'm going to use the helpful introduction guide y'all provided up top to keep things going. I'm WillAndTheWord; the name's a reference to an old fantasy series I grew up reading. It was my introduction to the whole genre actually. I tried thinking of something a bit more clever than that, something with deep insight into the human psyche or something, then I got really sweaty and upset. So here we are.
I've been roleplaying tabletop games and on forums off and on for an upsettingly long time. I started with aD&D back when I was in middle school in the early 2000's (Jesus, has it really been that long), then continued with online forum groups up until a few years ago when I just kind of... stopped for lots of reasons. This is sort of me tentatively dipping my toes back into the water, if you will.
As far as preferences go, my main genres of choice are high fantasy, soft science fiction, or some mix of the two. I'm also not above melodrama, corny nonsense and a little schmaltz; they all have their place. I'm also willing to experiment where I feel like a premise is interesting. In terms of complexity, well, it sort of depends on what mood strikes me; I'm into long, detailed stories with rich characters, and detailed paragraphs, within reason or as time permits. Sometimes time doesn't because work, and the real world, and life and everything else. Other than that, I'm basically down for whatever in terms of group size/number of people.
Beyond roleplaying, I dunno. I work as a musician, so music is a very big part of my life. I used to be an avid reader but for the same reasons I stopped roleplaying, I really sort of fell off the wagon with my recreational literary persuits. As a 'young' person of the internet age, I'm really into videogames. Been playing them longer than I've been roleplaying. In general I'm a purveyor of nerd/geek culture, you could say. And I'm probably not alone in that here.
