Seeing Faolan like this only made Lucien more desperate to want to help him, but he just didn't know what to do. He refused to tell him what was wrong. By now Faolan was very well knowledgeable in everything that the nephilim could do. Was it really something he could not help him with? If so, then that made him even less inclined to leave. He was perfectly able to defend himself, and he always had his barrier's to rely on if he had to, why wouldn't he be safe? It wasn't like anything could hurt him anyway.

Those thoughts were broken as he only saw Faolan's pain increase. He only felt more useless at the fact that Faolan refused to accept any sort of assistance for him. Was there really nothing he could do but watch his friend suffer like this? He refused to simply give in and leave.

"I'll be fine, Faolan! You shouldn't be worried about me, I'm more worried about you! Please tell me what's happening to you!"
Lucien nodded, smiling slightly at Geralt's words. "Fine observation. They do have quite the good teamwork. I'm sure it will be quite alright, they adapt quickly." He said, at least in terms of performances. In terms of personal connection, he wasn't sure how they'd all handle Geralt individually, but he knew that when it came to the shows, everyone could be professional about it, even Ivory. She would never allow her distaste for him to ruin a show.

"Bien sûr, I did say I always try to make make sure my performers are taken care of." He said. At his question, he gestured over to his own trailer a bit off to the left. Lucien had been a little.. tactical in the placement of Geralt's trailer. He had wanted it far away from Cora's as possible, but he had also wanted him close enough to keep an eye on him in case anything happened. Because both Cora and Illyana used their trailers doing their acts, they were off further to the side than the other trailers. Akane's was the first in line after that, considering how frequently the kitsune went to go get Cora in the mornings or hung out with her in general. It was followed by his own, and so he decided to place Geralt's trailer between his and Aurel's, who had Ivory on his other side. The man hadn't minded when he had been asked, understanding the ringleader's reasoning behind it.

"You'll actually be able to find me quite easily. We're.. practically neighbors. I'm a bit of an early riser, so if I'm not going about the grounds checking up on things, you will usually find me there." He said. Typically he was up very early, specially on show days. He'd sometimes want to have a talk with the carnies that handled the advertising before they left to town for it, to tell them what news to spread. Now that Geralt was here, they had to make sure to spread the word.

Aurel glanced at Illyana as she provided him with comfort. It did help him feel a little better, but he really had to make sure he paid further attention to his snakes' body language. It had been so long since they had been wary toward anyone he had almost forgotten to look out for it. Their latest member had been Cora, and all of his snakes had instantly warmed up to her, because of her attitude and the fact she could understand him. Liquorice had been unphased by the consequences of his actions, because he was not feeling particularly apologetic for what he had done.

"She'ss right. It was all that man'ss fault." He said, causing the man to almost let out a sigh. He shifted his attention back to Illy as she spoke, furrowing his brow. If it was the snakes he had grown angry toward for lashing out at him then.. he definitely wanted to keep them away from him, at least until he got to know him a little better and could provide them with more reassurance. Everyone here knew to leave his snakes alone if they were seen out and about on the grounds. Aurel always left his window open so they could come and go as they pleased, whether it be to hunt, bask under the sun on top or around his trailer, or something else. He always had at least one on his person for the company but.. perhaps he'd leave them behind until he got a little more used to Geralt. Considering he seemed interested in.. conversing with him, it was probably for the best.

"His shadow?" Aurel questioned.

"Hmm.." Ivory wasn't quite sure what to make of this. She had learned after coming here that there were plenty of different creatures out there in the world, but there was still quite a bit of knowledge she lacked, considering even she had to learn as she went along when it came to herself. Akane was a very bright and kind girl. She had always found the shadow thing to be strange, but she knew that was something that was hard for her to control when she got to excited or flustered. She wasn't sure what the case was with Geralt, and she hadn't noticed it before, but she'd be sure to pay attention to it now.

"Did you mention this to Lucien? He might know more about it. My knowledge on that sort of stuff is a little limited.. I'm not sure if Akane would know considering her shadow is the same, but she seems to lack suspicion of him." She wasn't quite sure whether asking her would get them anywhere.

"Did the shadow have some sort of shape..? Or did it simply shift around?" Aurel asked curiously. With someone like Akane it varied. Sometimes they'd see the shape of her two tailed fox-form, and sometimes they'd just see her humanoid form with her ears and tail, it usually varied. He was curious to know what kind of shape the man's would turn into, as it was really the only thing they had as a clue at the moment.
Clearly there was something Lucien was missing, gathering from Faolan's reaction to his words. Again, his question received no answer, but the man's hasty movements and desperate looking around only worried the nephilim further. He jumped slightly as Faolan tightly gripped his shoulder, and his golden eyes stuck to the man as Faolan seemed to be hit with an intense pain.

"Faolan!" He was confused, he didn't understand. He wanted to help Faolan, but he didn't know how. If he was in pain, there had to be an injury, so he could heal it, right? However he wasn't given that chance, as Faolan stared into his eyes and told him to go. Despite having been given these orders, his words were ignored. Perhaps the first time he had went against something Faolan had said. How could he leave him in this sort of circumstance? He landed on the ground, and ran to Faolan as he stumbled to the ground. He had never heard him in so much pain.

"Faolan! What's hurting you? Please let me help!" He didn't know what to do, he couldn't see any external injury to fix, but he couldn't just leave him like this.
At Cora's comment, Lucien's expression had remained completely neutral. Inwarldy he wanted to slap his hand against his forehead, but he remained completely composed. Of course Cora would not think twice about saying something like that, but no one else had reacted, and he hadn't been able to hear Akane's response to that as the two women had left. The kitsune had agreed with her.

"I'm happy to hear that. They've worked hard to get to this point. I see them improve with almost every performance." He responded, though he wasn't sure how 'humbled' someone like Geralt could really be. Still, he simply accepted the compliment. With that, he decided to change the subject as they approached the area of their trailers.

"Everyone can customize and decorate their trailer as they please with their own personal taste. So do with it as you wish. I do hope it's.. satisfactory to you." He said as he stopped near the trailer that would now be Geralt's. This trailer had once belonged to the acrobats that were in their troupe. Since it was meant for two people, it was largest after his own and well.. Faolan's, but that one had been completely covered up. He wasn't sure if Geralt was one to make a fuss about such things, but he certainly hoped he wasn't. He had the carnies completely clean it out, ready to accept it's new owner.

Ivory shook her head at Illyana's response, but she was glad she wasn't the only one who felt this way. "I wasn't at an angle in which I could see it, but I wish I had. Personally I think everything that comes out of his mouth is a lie." She said dryly. That was just the kind of vibe she got from him. He was filled with sweet words meant to win people over, and it was vexing to her.

"I didn't get to see it either.. I was more focused on making sure Liquorice didn't bite him.." Aurel muttered. "Did.. it upset him? I'm not sure if it will be a good idea to have my snakes around him for a while.. I'll have to speak with them.." He said, letting out a sigh.

"He was. He hates us as much as we hate him." Liquorice hissed.
Lucien was startled at the way Faolan had responded to his question. Concern quickly filled his expression, but his train of thought was not clear as he tried to recall today's date. "O-October 14th." He responded, a little unsure at first, but then knew he was correct. He quickly disregarded that though, as his worry for the man was much stronger.

He had never seen Faolan look this way. It was unnatural. Despite the way the way the Irishman looked to people, and the intimidating aura he gave off, he had never, ever heard the man raise his voice. This was probably as close as he had ever gotten to it, but he found his expression to be a lot more worrying.

"What's wrong, Faolan?" He asked, clearly unnerved. Now that he thought about it, the moon was clearly shining over them both. Over the past year, he couldn't recall a single full moon Faolan had been around him for. Usually he left for whatever his errand was before that. Had he lost track of time then? Was he late? Even if that was the case, he felt the reaction was too extreme.

Aurel didn't know enough about Freiburg to be able to agree with him, but.. he did remember spring being very nice in the place he had been 'raised,' in.. maybe he really was from there. Regardless it didn't matter to him now. At his comment, he could see that Lucien had heard him, as a slightly amused expression crossed his face. Maybe being able to speak to a native German meant more to Geralt than he had realized? While he couldn't really comprehend things like that, he could at least understand the sentiment behind it.

"Danke." He responded as the man extended the compliment to him.

It was at this time that Lucien found it a good time to speak up again. "Well, that's everyone. It is getting really late, so I don't want to keep you all up too long. You'll all have plenty more time to converse tomorrow. I thought today's schedule went relatively well, though I'd like to ask Akane and Aurel to switch their times. Aurel, you can have your show overlap a little with Ivory's instead." The ringleader said. Having taken the target audience into consideration, he thought it the best way to go about it.

"Sure thing!" Akane exclaimed, while Aurel nodded in Lucien's direction.

"With that, I think it's about time I show you to your trailer, Geralt." He said, figuring it was a good time to wrap things up.

"Well, see you all tomorrow guys! Have a goodnight!" Akane exclaimed, before jumping off the edge of the stage and going to Cora. "I'll take you back!" She said, before reaching for Cora's hand and beginning to leave the tent with her once goodbyes and goodnights had been exchanged. Sometimes she liked to walk with her friend like this, instead of pushing her chair from behind. She found it a lot more enjoyable.

Lucien then walked up to Geralt and motioned over to the exit at the tent, and walked out with him. Akane's pace had been a little quick, so the two women were already quite ahead of them. She was always excitable that one, even at this time of day.

"I do apologize for cutting the meeting short, but I do like to make sure everyone gets a good amount of rest before the next set of shows, I'm sure you understand." He spoke to the man as they walked across the grounds to the area where their homes awaited.

-

Ivory had gotten off the stage, but instead of leaving she walked up to Aurel and Illy after Lucien and Geralt had gone. Mostly she was curious as to what Illyana had thought of Geralt, now that she had met the man for herself.

"So.. what did you think?" She asked the two of them, also curious as to what Aurel's snakes had to say about him.

"The snakes.. they don't like him. Jade says he's.. dangerous.." Aurel muttered. He didn't really have an opinion of the man besides that. He seemed friendly enough to speak to, but the reaction he had received from his snakes was what made him the most weary. Their instinct usually did not fail, so part of him wanted to trust in them. At the same time he did not want to be rude to the man who clearly wanted to engage in conversation with him. It was.. difficult.
Lucien noticed Faolan's grimace, but didn't ask about it immediately. He chuckled slightly at his response, knowing that it probably would be difficult.

"A few months? That's sooner than I expected." He could never expect to carry him the way Faolan would, but maybe if he carried him in a different way it'd be possible to lift him off the ground. It would be something to work up to eventually. It was nice to imagine himself being strong enough to do so, considering that was never something he would have ever considered a possibility. After a small moment of silence, the nephilim couldn't help but speak up again. Despite being used to this type of talk for him around this time of the month, there was something he couldn't quite shake.

"Faolan.. are you alright?" He asked.
Lucien let out a small sheepish laugh. "I'd say it's been a good amount of time. Sometimes the wind just caught me off guard, but I'm more used to flying against it now. Not to mention aerial recovery." He said. Diving down and trying to pull back before hitting the ground had been the majority of the instances where this had happened. Sometimes he mistimed the amount it took for his wings to straighten out, and that's where Faolan usually came in. Even though he had told Faolan multiple times that he'd be fine even if he hit the ground, the Irishman would still catch him.

He noticed how curt Faolan was being, but the Frenchman was used to this by now. The closer it got to the monthly 'errand' Faolan would run, the less and less communicative he was with him. At first he had thought maybe he'd rather not speak, but it didn't seem like Lucien's continued attempts at communication bothered him, so he continued speaking to him as he normally would.

"I've gotten a lot stronger too. Think maybe one day I'll be strong enough to be able to pick you up and let you see what I see up from there? I think it's a nice view." He said lightheartedly.
Ivory's expression hadn't changed at the reaction the snakes had to Geralt. Clearly, there was something wrong with him. The snakes hadn't been extremely fond of her either when she had first met them, but they had never tried to actually attack her. It made her curious, but also wary. She knew there was a reason she didn't like him. When Akane had joined them it had been a similar circumstance, they didn't like her very much, but that was more of a.. predatory thing, considering the woman was a fox. What exactly were their animal instincts reacting to?

Aurel's expression was still apologetic after Geralt's response. "I'll make sure it doesn't happen again.." He glanced down at Liquorice as he spoke, causing the snake to slither back around Aurel's shoulder, though his gaze remained on Geralt. It was strange for his snakes to be like this, and he was now concerned that the others might react similarly to him. He'd have to be sure to speak with them ahead of time, he didn't really want his snakes attacking other people to become the norm. Jade had withdrew slightly back into Aurel's sleeve, but peeked out just enough to still be able to look at Geralt.

At his question, the man grew nervous, and his eyes quickly darted to Lucien to ask for his assistance. His life back in Germany was something Aurel tried to put behind him, if not forget completely. Unfortunately that wasn't easy for him, even more so when he had physical reminders of them. When he had first met Lucien, the man had tried to decipher where he was from, as even he didn't know exactly from where. What they had was merely a close guess, and Aurel hadn't bothered to retain that information.

"He's from Freiburg." Lucien spoke up, answering the question for him, having noted Aurel's silent plea for help. To this day he still wasn't sure if that was really the case, but it was the ringleader's best guess as to the location based on the descriptions Aurel had given him. It didn't seem like the boy had cared to know at the time, so they hadn't pursued the topic any further.

Aurel simply nodded in agreement with Lucien, fiddling with the edge of his sleeve.

"I don't mind speaking it with you. Lucien is the only one I use it with so.." He trailed off. Despite his dislike for his time in Germany, it seemed Geralt was happy about being able to have this chance. He supposed it might be a little lonely to be unable to speak your native language to other people.
Lucien smiled upon Faolan's belief in him. He was sure he could too, and he certainly looked forward to learning.

"Okay, then I look forward to learning from you, and I guess also teaching you." He said with a small chuckle as they continued to walk through the forest.

--

Faolan's expectation had been correct. In the year that followed, Lucien had made huge progress in the language, and in learning other things, too. The two men had already established a relatively good routine while on the road together. When they were in town they would focus on earning money, and the times that they were on the road or traversing through forests, Lucien would train with Faolan, and also practice his flying. By now he had grown quite good at it, and he could have faith in feeling it almost as natural as walking. He was no longer the lightly thin Frenchman he was before. Through his training his muscles had become more toned, and he was almost sure he was growing again, much to his relief.

Lucien had grown less shy as the time had passed. His confidence shined through more when he interacted with people, and he realized he was actually quite good at it, taking over for Faolan on occasion because the Irishman had always been a man of few words. He had always known that people reacted differently to you depending on how you spoke to them, and he had really put that into play over the last few months.

In their attempts to earn money, Lucien had seen how many people were sick, injured, or ill in some way throughout their journey. He felt bad, and ended up asking Faolan if he thought offering his healing services would bring more money to their income. Considering they never stuck around a town too long, it was easy to avoid being traced if things got too.. problematic, but it had certainly helped them earn more coin, and made Lucien a little happy in the fact he could help people. Of course, Lucien had kept his promise to write to both Father Cyril and Father Thomas during his travels, even more so now that the war he had been meant to escape had broken out in Europe. Whenever they arrived at a town he tried to find the latest news at the situation. Now he wrote to them mostly out of worry, hoping that Germany's advance into France would leave his previous home unharmed. Despite the worry that ailed him, Lucien attempted to remain cheerful, not wanting to bring down the mood in their travels.

At the moment, the two men traversed along a road bordering a forest. They had left town a day prior, and were engaged in conversation. He had realized that he actually quite liked travelling through forests like this, mostly because it gave him the highest chances to fly.

"I must admit I've gotten quite good at this. I wouldn't have imagined myself being able to do this a year ago." Lucien joked, having been flying on his back for a moment before making himself upright again and landing beside the Irishman. His wings no longer weighed so heavily on him, nor did they tire him out if he used them too often. He had truly become attuned to them, much to his satisfaction.
