Current And maybe most people don't like getting a single line back in response to a few paragraphs? Like whatever floats your boat, but there's a reason Free exists.

If the man's is asking for a ban, might as well give it to him. Good riddance.

IncredibleBee said Actually systems are great for role plays. They give a fair method of conflict resolution, and more importantly, a sense of danger. You can't get a sense of danger without the real threat of a fail state created from a dice roll.

The only problem is that the system Hamster is trying to create is clunky and poorly made, which is understandable, because making a system from scratch is hard and takes really good math. The thing is that Zero and I are both presenting an easy solution in the form of an extremely simple four page system. All he has to do is say "Hmm, maybe using a readily available system would be easier than designing, playtesting, and editing my own over the course of many hours."

Yeah, pre-made systems are great.

Establishing your own system?
Zero Hex said Dual wielding is not too viable in real life, truth be told. But that's neither here nor there.

That's a nice block of answers but it still doesn't give me any kind of perspective over what that 2 means beyond "You're proportionally better than people with 1s, but weaker than things with 3 or more, and it's just a flat bonus to a d6 roll". How low is 2 in the world, how big is 10, what's the maximum possible in stats, do monsters get higher maximums than players? I could potentially have a character that starts with 11 wis and 1 everything else, what would that make it in this world? Would he be a spellcasting prodigy that can't wipe his own bum, outrun a snail or survive a stiff breeze? Would he be normal (meaning shit for adventuring) except for his wondrous uberbrain of spellcasting?

And since we're at it, why can't a defender pick his own defensive stat to pit against an attack, situation allowing, except for spellcasters? Why would a creature that relies on agility try to enter a battle of strength instead of simply dodging/parrying and counterattacking unless it's backed against a corner and can't feasibly use his agility to escape or somesuch? Doesn't this just mean casters have a far more reliable defense than noncasters? Sure they don't get to deal damage back when attacked but they can always use their main stat to add to their rolls, like I'm saying everyone should be able to.

This is why trying to establish a system is generally meh. Lil details, and stuff like all of that get in the way, of what is ultimately supposed to be writing.
Keia Vewyx said Perhaps it's a single attack that only uses the highest bonus, though that would make dual-wielding a nonviable style.

Doing shit for the cool factor is always viable. Always.

What if my character uses a ranged weapon, such as a longbow, crossbow, shortbow, etc. and the enemy isn't aware of an incoming arrow/bolt? Do they automatically gain awareness, deflect the arrow/bolt and charge down the field while my character waits to be countered, checking the local news on his/her iPhone?

What I'm asking is about ranged bow attacks and sneak attacks. How are they implemented? What are the chances of a sneak attack being successful, and how does a sneak attack differ from a normal, face to face attack?

Presumably, you do an AGI check to see if your character was actually stealthy enough to get into position, draw the bow or whatever, and launch the attack without being detected.

Win that, yay, you do damage. Lose that, and boo, the enemy's about to charge your ass. I'm sure you could make multiple attacks in a row if your character is ranged versus a melee opponent, but getting into distance is just meh.

Because then you have to figure out, okay at what distance would it be reasonable for someone to make a sneak attack without getting detected at all. How many times can a ranged character with X amount of AGI shoot at Y range. In relation to that, how fast does someone with X AGI cross Y range, and how does that affect how many shots an opponent can make.

That's over-complicating things. There doesn't need to be a set rule, just do things within reason and I'm sure the good Hamster will rule things as needed. IE, in the event that you do attack at a range, I'm sure he'll give you enough opportunities as he deems fit before the enemy gets into melee whack an archer range.
His “hopes and dreams” were dashed in but a moment’s notice as a flash of pink rounded the corner into the hallway. “Tch.” Clicking his tongue, Veili moved his head just enough so he could meet Elizabeth’s eyes. He supposed this was his fault in some way or another. Probably fate reminding him that avoidance never really suited him nor was it a forte of his and that he should have just continued along his way instead of trying to hide. His only reaction was a raised eyebrow at the nonsense she gave him was a raised eyebrow. While verbal sparring had never been a particular skill of Veili’s, he preferred the physical variety, acting as a merchant had given him some experience in twisting and choosing words.

“Why I was waiting for you.” His reply dripped with enough sarcasm that it was a surprise there wasn’t a pool gathering at his feet. His expression, on the other hand, had softened somewhat as a hint of a smile tugged at his lips while his eyes no longer glared or observed. “After all, there’s more exciting things to do than listening to some speech, not to mention I had to think of the younger students’ eyes...” Trailing off, he had leaned forward until he was level and seeing eye to eye with her. And just quickly as he had gone down that path, Veili cut himself off. An exaggerated shiver followed, clearly expressing his distaste, while his expression deadpanned as he pulled back to lean against the wall. While he was fairly sure there was no stopping Elizabeth if she decided to take offense to that, at the very least Veili had made it clear that if she wanted to continue, well he wouldn't be playing.

“In all seriousness though, I was planning to grab some breakfast after you had gone on your way,” he muttered, not really bothering to try and hide the truth. “And before you ask why I bothered to avoid you, it was just me being stupid.” He admitted that much, hoping it would take whatever wind she had in her sails.
My 2 cents would be that the combat system is, like mentioned in the OP, not necessary. There's no need to make it needlessly complex. Something simplistic as suggested, 4 base stats with dice rolls, would be sufficient to allow a sense of chance with some control.
PhoenixWhite said For the most part it's just a logical use of 'my character does this, and this stat ties into it' if I understood this right.

Basically this.
VitaVitaAR said @Zombehs: There are a couple thing I noticed, firstly that you say he was discovered and a young age as if it's unusual. It's more unusual for a Dragonslayer not to be recognized at a young age, really. ^^;

It was more towards the point that "Dragonslayers inhibit strength, often beyond what their appearance would suggest."

For Feron, the general reaction was more, "Ok, yeah that's about as expected," cause he is and grew up huge. Edited it to make that a bit more clear though.

What kind of map do you guys need? Just a general lay out of the Academy, or do you want me to make floor-plans as well :)?Depending on which, I can get it done in about a week or two :D

I figure a general layout would be enough.

I was unable to make out a clear answer from the previous page of the OOC. The event with Adam occurred indoors or outdoors, since Aoife has already departed from the building. If she was to witness it, then it would have happened outside. I edited my post based off of that theory.

EST, EST!
Name: Feron Blackwater
Age: 24
Gender: Male

Appearance: “I’ll crush my enemies; not just dragons.”
Even if Feron wasn’t a Dragonslayer, he would still be quite intimidating. He’s tall, really tall, like almost seven feet tall. Add over 250 pounds of nearly pure muscle, and he sends bandits scurrying for the woods with his mere presence.

Personality: Gruff, blunt, and all around not the best company. While he doesn’t go out of his way to be rude and insult others, as he is a man of little words for the most part, he doesn’t hold his thoughts back either. Inspite of that, he is a rather protective fellow who looks out for others in conflict. He might not be happy that he’s dragging your ass out, but he’s still dragging it.

Contrary to his appearance, Feron fights with intellect and skill despite his choice of weapon. Though he gets a maniac gleam from encountering strong dragons, his zeal for battle is only shown through his increased strength and endurance. His mind remains unclouded and clear, finding the best way to end worthy battles.

Brief Backstory: Unlike other Dragonslayers, his strength was never bellied by his size. He towered over the town’s children, wrestled with the best warriors, and seemed to fear nothing. By the time he was a young teenager there was nothing left for him to compete against. Tallest and strongest, he had already beaten his townsmen and wrestled the wild beasts around his home, emerging victorious. With nothing to challenge him, Feron grew restless and eager to test himself. He lamented that there was no beast worthy to challenge him, and sought to set out from this small town he called home.

As if to challenge his right to leave, a mighty dragon descended from the sky to block his path. The very ground quaked when it landed, deep talons digging trenches into the soft soil underneath. Rather than fear, Feron simply felt elation as his instinct roared for him to take the beast’s life. This is what he was born to do. The two fought and it became legend, for the small town at the least. Some brave souls witnessed the encounter between the two destined foes; Dragonslayer and Dragon.

The dragon fought with fang, claw, and fire. With every breath, the night seemed to arrive; so intense were the flames. Did he shy away from the beast? No, he faced it head on. The fires licked at his skin, but he endured. His weapons shattered against his fearsome foe’s scales, but that did not dissuade Feron. If steel would not break the beast, than his fists, having shattered swords before would do the trick. In the end he slew the beast, but it was far from a clean or glorious kill. The dragon’s corpse was a mess, shattered bones, broken claws, its throat crushed, and torn skin. Feron did not fare much better, and had this encounter occurred in the wilderness he likely would have perished. As it was though, his fellow villagers retrieved their hero and nursed him back to health. He set out afterwards, recovered and stronger than before.

Abilities: An incredible physique, even amongst the fabled Dragonslayers. His strength titanic his body unbreakable, he was born to challenge the dragons head on. Not as fast as most of his kind, Feron is the mighty glacier of the Dragonslayers. He fights not with acrobatics nor fancy movements, but stands indomitable against a dragon’s onslaught. With impeccable skill, he manages to turn aside or maneuver himself in such a manner that what would be crushing blows are made into glancing grazes. And with that same skill he manages to deliver devastating strikes that outright cripple lesser foes.

Equipment: Feron doesn’t bother with any armor, the unnatural toughness of his body is generally enough. Any equipment that would offer better protection would restrict his natural dexterity.
His weapon, Dragonbreaker, is a massive warhammer made from the talon of a great dragon slain before his time. It’s heavy enough that even Feron has to handle the weapon two-handed to use it with skill, and is incredibly resilient. Even boulders shatter underneath its strikes.
And what is a hammer without nails? Feron carries three stakes on his back whenever he goes out to hunt. Massive in size, these 1.5m lengths of steel are used to pin dragons whenever the opportunity presents itself. He’s been known to drive them through a dragon’s tail with a single blow, grounding the mighty beasts.
