I remember shortly after this site went up, someone asked it was possible to retrieve anything from the old guild. Someone posted a sort of command you could put into Google to search for old guild pages, and then use the archives Google provided in order to look at the posts. I can't remember what the command was, and I can't find the thread again. All I can remember about it is that Eru Illuvatar posted in it.

If anyone knows what I'm talking about and could help, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Wayback machine is one way to get things from oldGuild. As for the thing built into Google, I believe you're thinking of "cache", though I don't know much about how to use it.

There's the wayback machine (archive.org), or you could try to search for cached pages on Google, which I think is what you were getting at.

The way you do that is search for 'site:roleplayerguild.com <insert whatever you're searching for here>' and then if you get any hits on your search you look to the right of the green line of text for an arrow. If that arrow is there, click it and a little box should pop up with the word Cached, click that and you'll get the cached page.

Yeah, the 'cache' fuction is what I was thinking of. However, using the 'site:roleplayerguild.com <insert whatever you're searching for here>' only seems to yield results from this site rather than the old one, even though it definitely used to give results from oldguild. Am I just bad at searching for the right key terms?

I hadn't realised stuff from oldguild was on the Wayback Machine, but that doesn't seem all that useful seeing as it doesn't have threads archived.

If you still have a link to the thread lying around (like, bookmarked or something), you can actually find a lot of threads. Unfortunately, they'll usually only have the first page. Still, it's good for recovering whatever info you had on the first page of a roleplay or something.

Yeah, I just went and tried some things as well, stuff that I recovered through these searches after the old Guild went down. Looks like Google must purge these cached sites whenever they go looking for them and see they don't exist any longer. =/
