((Sparring Match between RuroniHS and Chev).

I will be using Ryozan for this. You can use whoever you like. I'm thinking that I'll have Ryozan give your character advice about tactics in the IC to keep things interesting, and I'll give you advice about how you're writing your posts in the OOC.

Ok. I'm going to post my intro. For simplicity's sake, we'll start at an open clearing, but maybe we'll bring in some terrain later. Come at me with everything you've got. This is for learning purposes, so don't be afraid of making mistakes.

If you like, I'll be happy to throw in my two cents also. I've also been doing this for a very long time and generally have an idea of what to do. :P

If you feel that it'd be easier, I could fight Ruro and you could watch?

Otherwise, just ask for my opinion as necessary. :D

Hey guys, since this is a training thread, would you be okay with some snarky commentary from a fellow fighter? :D

Point of advice to Chev: short range weapons are initialy at a disadvantage when attacking first. Their advantage, however, is in their maneuvrability and speed: one can transition from one strike to another swifter than with a longer weapon and interrupt almost any dodge or parry at close range.

I would be hesitant to put things into such objective terms. A lot of combat is knowledge of how one uses the time one has correctly - obviously sound strategy and proficiency of use of weaponry/techniques are major factors, but time is the most important thing to note the use of.

I'm unable to explain with an example really, since it would currently effect the battle. In this case, one person created a post utilizing their potential time well, while an other did not.

Well, what Ruro said, and a few tips from me. First, remember than the opponent can always redirect the sword's momentum and throw a new strike in response to a dodge, so outmaveureving the attack doesn't guarantee that you won't get butchered by the next. Then you also have stay wary of any pommel strikes, kick, headbutts and ect., since a combination of those can put a great deal of distance between you and also make you vulnerable to any follow up attacks. And while the sword's speed indeed decreases the closer you are to the hilt, it still remains a bladed weapon, so there are quite a few way to harm with it even then, such as a pull-cut. Blocking also doesn't render the weapon useless, as one can slip the sword over you block. Last, but not least, keep in mind that if your opponent is allowed to move away from you, any advantage is immediately lost.

That's quite a good move. I could try sticking my nose in to find something worthy of commenting on, but that would be unneccesary, IMHO.
