No one's in the chat so rather than use a PM, I'll ask here.

If one were to attack an NPC with the ultimate goal of colonizing them, would it be done through a normal order, or a war order? I know NF's can't be used to take a colony, but I'm not completely sure about the kind of order used for it. Common sense tells me it's a war order, but I rather be sure.

I used a normal update order to acquire the Ashanti Protectorate.

Sorry, Outcast, but this is going to be a long-ass war order. It's not one of those simple 'attack [place] with X amount of soldiers' order. It's a little more detailed than that because it deals with politics more than boots on the ground.

To be sure, do I have to declare war on NPC's in IC? I'm having trouble wording it and I'm thinking of simply not declaring war IC, if that's fine. If I have to declare war, then I guess I'll try to pump something out a bit later. But I'll make it known here so it doesn't come by surprise or passed the deadline: My war order is to roflstomp the Sultanate of Zanzibar, which means I am declaring war on them in the name of freeing slaves (and acquiring colonies). Slavery is bad, mmkay?

EDIT: I also ask because it's more complicated than "I hate you, I declare war on you!" There is an ultimatum involved, for one, and the attack doesn't actually take place unless the ultimatum is declined. So it's really hard to word since I can't actually declare war on them in IC because the result of the ultimatum is being decided by rolls.

You're making it sound more complicated than it is. Just put a post up along the lines of 'free slaves or I'll eat you' and Outcast will do the rolls. If they agree (which I reckon they will as the Zanzibar went about freeing their slaves around this period) then you have no casus belli on them, if they don't agree, then you do your steamrolling. I don't think it's too difficult, unless there is stuff you're not telling us which makes everything so much more complex.

@Kho: The dude in charge of Zanzibar right now is pro-Slavery. The guy after him is too, even though he's credited for "helping bring about abolishment." To be honest though, it sounds like he didn't have a choice because the British were breathing down his neck. He seemed like a bit of a douche too.

But no, there is nothing more to it. I just don't like half-assing posts. Making short posts kinda bugs me too, so I try to avoid it when possible. I went back and saw that Nex did his thing with the Ashanti Empire without having to declare war IC so maybe I can avoid doing it too.

The ultimatum is basically this, if it matters: "Yo, mothafucka, step down as Sultan and let Khalifah in yo place (cause Barghash sucks). If you don't we'll bomb yo ass out of your palace. Either way, we're here to free some slaves and take yo assess as a protectorate colony."

@Pepper, Hmm, your choice, but leadership wise, I think Barghash would be the better option, so long as you breathe down his neck and make it clear the Zanzibar is an Austrian protectorate and he has to make do without slavery. He actually developed the Zanzibar some, meaning you'll be getting more from them as time passes, and kept things under control (unlike Khalifah who caused revolts and barely ruled two years) meaning you won't have to be sending superior Europeans to take care of the problems caused by those inferior creatures in the Zanzibar ;)
