It is sad, but I'm sure it's going to have very little effect. Like the article said, there are many different avenues for the stuff nowadays.

But I will join in on "fuck the FCC" if their forced educational programming was in fact the difference-maker in losing dem cartoons.

I mean it was a link in a long chain that allowed other channels, mediums, etc. to take over the throne. Not the only link, at all, but break that link and the death of Saturday Morning is averted.

Like kids actually pay attention to those educational programs anyway. I learned my lessons through Transformers and TMNT, not some shitty live-action bullshit with easily defined morals.
