Asa

With the sun high in the sky- the sun, still such an amazing thing, I still can't believe we're on the surface - it was a perfect day to go out and observe, without raising suspicion by wearing sunglasses. Asa made sure to tell the rest of the group that they need to lie low and learn the mannerisms of the Mundanes, and that they need to always keep their sunglasses on when they go outside. He told them not to pick fights, and if someone tried to fight them, then they needed to walk away as fast as possible. For the moment, the civilian Mundanes were not the problem, and getting in a scuffle with them would only serve to further complicate any bit of the plan that they've made so far.

Asa glared at the screens- Televisions- with the President making some important speech about terrorists and what's needed to prevent their attacks. He sneered and walked away, keeping his head low. According to the scout a year ago, it was a unanimous decision of all the world leaders to kill the Diplomatic party. That meant the President was on the Uisilon's hit-list as well. Seeing the man stand there and speak, as though he wasn't a murderer, as though he hadn't killed both young adults and elders the same...it made him sick. He had hopes, at least enough to trust Hostia going to the surface, that the Mundanes had changed from the stories of hate he'd grown up hearing. But now that hope was gone. Dashed into the dirt like his sister and the other diplomats had been. Dreams of peace would never be a reality. At least not with the current world leaders. He knew that all but a few, maybe three of them if he could remember correctly, felt anger and the want for revenge after the loss of the Diplomats. Nearly everyone in the Surface group had lost a family member or friend. That's one of the reasons Asa chose them out of the bigger group to come to the surface, leaving the rest in Undaro.

Ruba, he chose to join them because he felt she would be a good anchor, and her good nature would help ease the tension. Plus, he would never leave another Golden Uisilon without her Ranked brothers and sister. In each generation the Golden ones were meant to be together, as the best way to enact change and balance.

Ariah had just as much right to be here as Asa himself did, having lost her lover to the Mundane world leaders. Asa could understand her rage and need for revenge; He didn't know what would have happened had he lost Carter as well.

Joon and Pons interested him, their different views despite living under the same roof-and with Ruba-, and he didn't want to separate the three Pavos. Allowing Saiwala to come along as well just seemed to make sense.

Having personally went to Dal, the only issue Asa has is that the Keeper of Hidden Words might get hurt. That would be on Asa's head upon reporting to the Elder council. Still, he couldn't bring himself to regret his decisions. That just left Carter.

Asa turned to his Mateship, who'd been walking silently beside him the whole time while he contemplated. He had no doubt that he may have been crushing Carter's hand a bit in his during his contemplations, but the other boy showed no outward sign of pain. Asa could always count on Carter as a constant presence. He always wanted to keep Carter safe and near him, because every time he let someone go, they never seemed to come back. Carter was his anchor who swallowed his own feelings long enough to bring Asa back from the dark, and he was an invaluable asset to the cause. The choice to have him come along was obvious, and Asa doubted he would have stayed behind even if told. It's extremely hard to stay away from your Mateship; it can even cause sickness if separated for too long.

"Hey." He bumped Carter's shoulder, turning down another street where someone was getting money playing the violin, while someone else had an electric piano to the side, coming in to create a wonderful duet. They stood at the edge of the crowd, the music becoming background noise for their oncoming conversation. "What's on your mind, Meus Sodalis?" He asked. Carter's not the most talkative, but he's usually not this quiet. It worried Asa a bit more than he'd admit.
Saiwala

Sai had woken up later than usual; Asa and Carter had already left a note and left and Saiwala was still trying to rub the sleep out of her eyes. With a large yawn she grabbed her sunglasses and tucked them into her pocket- they don't need them on while inside the apartment, of course- and headed out of her room to the kitchen. They had bought several bags and boxes of cereal, and jugs of milk with the money-some acquired legally and some not- of the Surface, They were set on breakfast food for a while.

She sat down with a bowl of something called Apple Jacks-by the powers this flavor is amazing!- and ate, waiting patiently to see if anyone else was still home. They all had their own spaces that they've found they liked to stay in over the past couple of days and Saiwala liked to leave people alone and let them come to her if they want to.
Dal

Dal had his sunglasses on- he always wore them, apparently that's what Mundanes do to signal they're blind- and was leaning on the rusty but stable rail of the balcony that was attached to the apartment. The first thing that had surprised Dal about the surface was the air. Sure, he had been told by many of the ones who had traveled there that it was polluted and impure, be he never thought it we be to the extent where they all gagged upon reaching the surface. He was adjusting to it now.

One thing that Dal had to admit the Mundanes had over the Uisilons-in a non literal sense- was the chemical mass of warmth known as the sun. It was nothing like the phosphorescent stalactites that light Undaro's small world. He may not be able to see the difference but he can definitely feel it; radiations of warmth came from the sun whereas none came from the stalactites. He was told by the others that the sun could be blinding, whereas the stalactites were just bright enough to allow everyone to see properly. Where the stalactites distorted the colors o Undaro, throwing several different colored lights onto one object, the sun seemed absolute and solid on the single color it gave off, allowing all the objects and people of the Surface to come off the color they were apparently meant to be. According to the young Illusionist, Saiwala, it was one of the oddest things to see; every object was clear and defined whereas in Undaro you often had to fight to make it out due to the ever shifting reflection of colors.

Dal sighed, enjoying the warmth on his skin.

He'd have to type this all out later.

Joon

Had there been anything back in Undaro that had so fully enthralled Joon to the point of pseudo-worship, by this point it would have already been replaced with the sun. There had never been anything so bright in all of Undaro, and while he found a lot of his fellow Uisilons seems to not appreciate ball of light, Joon found himself comforted by it, even if it hurt his eyes. In fact, just the thought of the sun, a big flaming ball of gas just floating in the sky, seemed to amaze Joon so much that he found himself waking up early specifically to see it rise, and today had been no different. Throughout the early morning he found himself drawing close to the lone window in his room constantly, eagerly waiting for the sun to make it's first appearance. However, by the time the sun had finally came up, Joon was asleep again, having tired himself out with excitement.

By the time he finally woke up again, the sun had already risen and began to illuminate his poor excuse for a room. Joon yawned and attempted to move his now aching body, there really was no time to sit around after all. They were on a mission, or at least that's what Ruba had said. The fate of the future generations of Uisilons rested in their hands, the fate of the Mundane world would be determined by them and them alone.

Joon chucked, when he thought of it that way, it almost sounded like one of those action cartoons the Mundanes played. Indeed, within his first week on the surface he had found many of the things he did or thought paralleled the Mundanes. More often than not they were extremely over the top, and for some reason they needed help with everything. Joon had to harness his abilities to make friends, but here in the Mundane world there were magazines and books to tell you how to get friends, they even had books on "How to be Yourself". It was all so odd, Joon had been under the impression that they had only come here to get revenge on the leaders of this world, not to watch Mundanes and read their things. As confused as he was, Joon couldn't help but admit that these magazines were entertaining, as evidenced by the ever growing pile of teen and parenthood magazines alike in the corner of his and Pons' room.

"What are you doing? Why are you laughing?" As soon as Pons spoke, Joon jumped and turned to his groggy brother. He had almost forgotten he shared a room with the grumpy brunette, which considering their small living space, seemed somewhat impossible.

"Who Cares?" Joon joked, flashing a huge smile towards Pons. No matter how big his smile got, however, Pons' sullen frown still remained. Joon sighed, letting his smile decrease a little.

"Hey hey! You know Ruba's probably gone by now, and you know she's expecting us to go explore together. So let's just start this day off right! I know I can't wait to hang around my favorite brother, my friend, my pal! I'm pretty lucky you know, I get to explore with a real celebrity. Don't think I don't see the Mundanes swoon when you walk past."

Joon joked kindly with his brother, showering him with compliments and pretend swooning, and only got a grumble in reply. The older brother rolled his eyes and let his joyful face fall, fully understanding why Ruba wanted to go alone when she explored.

Pons was a hard nut to crack, that much was sure. He had a clear case of "ansty teenager", so said Joon's various copies of parenthood magazines he had "borrowed". It was hard to be close to him when he was constantly at Joon's throat, angrily rejecting everything he said. Ruba didn't have to deal with this, then again Ruba usually didn't have to deal with insolence from anyone, let alone one of her younger brothers, "You said I was your favorite brother." Pons groggily whispered, as if he was finally awoken.

"Yeah? I ment it too." Joon said, crawling closer to Pons and nudging him slight. Maybe he had finally broke through to the sour younger boy.

Pons immediately pushed his brother away, his face twisting in confusion "I'm your only brother, was that one of your lame jokes? You know I don't get them. Ruba said stop telling jokes I don't get, are you making fun of me?"

Joon left Pons, not particularly in the mood to humor his insecure brother, and gathered up his clothes for today. As he put on his rather tacky blue cherry print shirt, he could hear Pons complaining behind him. Joon had bigger things to think about, and that ment there was no time to argue with his brother. The morning was the perfect time to go exploring after all. Everyone was hustling to get to their jobs or to school, the madness, the backed up traffic, it was great.

"Pons, I'm going outside. I'll be waiting so get dressed quick." He exited his room, leaving his younger brother in the center of the room, clearly trying to adjust to the morning sun.

Joon looked around the almost empty apartment, he must have woken up too late. By now, Ruba was probably halfway around the world, there was no catching up with her today. As Joon turned the corner he spotted Saiwala. He began smiling again and pulled a chair up to the younger girl "Hey Sai, I was wondering if someone other than that sourpuss Pons was up." Joon laughed, excited that he had gotten a chance to use some of his new Mundane lingo he'd picked up from a comic. The comic had been dated back to 1968, but if he knew anything about Mundanes it was that slang never went out of style. "Sourpuss, that's such a weird term right? Sourpuss, it's so wacky. I love it!"

Joon propped his head up with his hands and laughed again, hoping the humor of the term "sourpuss" didn't escape Saiwala. If anyone were listening to their conversation, there was no doubt in Joon's mind that they wouldn't believe he was born on the surface.

He couldn't believe it, but they were finally on the surface. All of their work that went towards this
moment had finally arrived...but it was far from being over.

Carter walked alongside Asa, both wearing sunglasses and trying to look the least suspicious among the Mundanes. Carter didn't know what he expected up on the surface, the way the Mundanes acted didn't seem all that different from themselves. The way their world worked, however, was obviously distinctive. All that was fed to their people was the lie that they were merely terrorists without anything behind their reasoning.

There was a strange, uncomfortable feeling circulating in his stomach. The feeling had lingered there ever since they came up, and it was hindering his mood. At first he thought he was just simple anxiety, but he was now beginning to realize what it meant.

While Carter was deep in thought for too long, Asa was the one that got his attention, asking him what was on his mind. He had almost forgotten his presence for a brief moment, but the grip on his hands was a pleasant reminder of who was by his side. He was extremely grateful to be able to share this moment, this change, with Asa, whom he loved dearly. Though, no doubt about it, the way this was going to play out wasn't going to be a piece of cake, but he had faith in them all.

Carter didn't answer for a moment, trying to think about how to put it into words. He tightened his hands around Asa's a bit more. His hands were growing more warm as his thoughts lingered. Carter wasn't usually a deep thinker, but due to all this change he never got the chance to sit down and think about things.

"Not really sure how to put it." He uttered out, feeling like there was no other choice than to say what needed to be said. He thought about making up some crap about a migraine, and he might have been able to pass with that, but Asa was the only person who he could talk to and not feel like he bruised his pride. There was no reason to lie about it. He was always open and honest when it came to his mate.

"It's just kind of scary, you know? Having to face it, actually coming up here and realizing that it's true." His voice then became more quieter as he continued, paranoid that someone would overhear it.
"To them, we really don't exist. That complete ignorance, it's..." He trailed off, then glanced to the side to look at the musicians on the street. That ignorance reminded him of himself for so many years, thinking back on it, a part of him was still bitter about it.

The world above was absolutely stunning. The sun, so warm and bright, Ariah couldn't help but smile at the heat on her skin as she traversed this odd place. Now, she could easily understand why Eko was so enthralled with this world. All of the others appeared to take special interest in the sun as well but even more intriguing was the open space. Undaro was an enormous cave really so breezes came and went sparingly. But in this place, the air currents flowed as they pleased, limitless, unrestricted, and free. Although she was to keep a low profile, Ariah constantly used her powers. She controlled the flow of air currents and made new ones to create an invisible transportation network that would allow her to let items travel the wind to any destination. For example, Ariah made a current that lead straight to Eko's bedroom window so that way she could send her little sis letters everyday. These air channels did not run continuously for then anyone could run into one and the group would be discovered. Besides the air mail thing , it was also fun to mess with the surrounding people by creating freak winds that came from apparently nowhere. She tried not to do that too often but sometimes she just couldn't help herself.

Ariah had been walking through a shopping district at the time. Many things about the mundanes fascinated her, but the many foods and various fashions had really caught her attention. Ariah took a particular liking to desserts. Cakes, cookies, and chocolates seemed to always be in her hand. The clothes people wore so unlike anything back in Undaro. Anything lacey and loose was part of her new growing wardrobe. She sent many boxed treats and outfits to Eko.

Though she thought this place was very unique, Ariah was actually very unsettled and upset. The mundanes took everything they got for granted, never realizing how truly good they have it. She knew they were physically weaker beings but she thought mentally they were equal. They were always whining and complaining about every little thing. It was also extremely irritating how much they seemed to want to pick fights with each other over the stupidest of things. She began to think about Alma.

Asa

"...Disturbing?" Asa guessed with a raised eyebrow. He nodded to himself, stuffing his hands in his pockets before turning around. He walked away from the crowd and into a park across the street. He sat on the bench and leaned back as Carter sat next to him. "These people continue their daily lives; their routines. They're either oblivious or desensitized to what happens around them, and they're perfectly fine with that. They allow all these wars and diseases to rampage through their homes and their lands...I don't understand it. Carter...I think once we're finished with this mission, I'm going to go back to Undaro...I think I'll help run things from there. Sure, I'll come up once a month or so, to check on things and cooperate between Undaro and the surface group...but I hate it up here. People hardly know their neighbors; If they do, they don't care for them." He breathed out through his nose, quick and harsh. His anger was apparent in everything he did; his tone, his movements, it rolled off him in waves.

"I thought that...perhaps things would be better up here. Maybe the Mundanes with normal lives would be better than the world leaders, but I haven't met any like that. I'm...I'm not angry at the civilians, per say, but at the fact that they let their lives be ruled for them, controlled by someone else. The five Golden ranks and the Elders Council is different; the only time we get truly into anything is in times of crisis and great change, but..." He paused for breath, rubbing his eyes under the sunglasses and giving his mateship a sideways glance. "It seems the only way Mundanes are informed, is through the world leaders, or some sub-constituency, and those groups and organizations just follow the leaders' orders. Either way, the civilians are fed lie after lie and they...what's the term...take it for gospel!

"Who's to say that once the world leaders are gone, once our mission's complete, that they won't just somehow bring in even worse leaders. don't think integration is possible between Uisilons and Mundanes anymore. They're even less informed, and even more illusioned, than they were in the history we learned. They hate against their kin because they are a different gender, skin color, or religion from them; because they're in a different social class, or were raised differently. If the Mundanes can't even accept themselves, how can we expect them to accept us?

"It's just not like this in Undaro; We look after our neighbors, we take in the ones who lost someone, and we don't turn our back on those who are being hurt. Green and Silver Ranks aren't seen as lesser by any means. As far as I've seen, their differences don't warrant any mistreatment. I've certainly never looked down my nose at anyone of different Rank. Hell, most of the time I think they're better people than me!" He took another deep breath and looked at his mateship again, shaded eyes begging him to understand.

"I was a fool to believe that wiping out the world leaders would give us a chance up here, and I'm going to tell the others just that at our next meeting. I'm not backing out of the mission, not by a long shot...but...when this is all finished, I want to go back...back home. I want to be back with the family I grew up with, even if they aren't blood." He rested his head on Carter's shoulders, much like he did when they were children and Carter would console him. "Family doesn't stop at blood for the Uisilons, but it seems like up here, with the Mundanes, it doesn't even start with blood. And I can't handle that, can't live up here, knowing that." He finished, glare set on the ground.

Saiwala

Saiwala looked at her big brother and laughed. She put her spoon down and smiled at him enthusiastically. "I like that term! But Pons kind of reminds me more of that cat I saw in one of your Teen Trend magazines..." She thought it over, "Oh! That Grumpy Cat!" She laughed. She brought her hands up in front of her and the air shimmered, two images appearing; One of Pons and one of the Mundane's famed Grumpy Cat. She overlapped her hands- which in turn overlapped the two illusions-, "Perfect match!" she exclaimed with a giggle at the monstrosity the two illusions created.

Dal

Dal turned his head as he heard the laughter from the kitchen, releasing a small smile. He'd stay out here a bit longer.

Everyone was able to find something relatively appealing about the Mundane's surface world, but Anon thought nothing of it. The bright daylight annoyed her, the people outside going about their daily lives, their immense ignorance of the truth. She sat upon the broken metal frame of a bed, one of the ones that just so happened to be left in the abandoned building they hid within. One single window lit up the cracked stone of what was their room, Anon stared outside at the light from what was apparently called the sun. The others found the star entrancing, but she thought of no such thing. She twirled the sunglasses around on her finger, they had given them glasses to hide their eyes from the public. It was a little strange to see such bright golden eyes on a person, and Anon's hair was different enough, she'd rather not bring any more attention to her appearance. She wondered if she was really the best fit to join this mission. The Uisilon was aware of her title, it was a rather large burden to bare. Her family was known to have Golden Uisilons in their DNA line, but Anon never imagined she would be the one to have the trait this time around.

Anon didn't sleep much that night, for she lied awake thinking of the mission. She thought of how their race was belittled and discriminated against enough to initiate their assassination plan, and she didn't object it much at all. She wasn't very friendly with the other people in their group, at least not yet. Lucas would help with that, he almost always knew what to say in those situations. In fact, most of the others in their group had gone out to explore the world, she didn't want anything to do with the Mundanes. She wasn't interested in their culture, the reminder of her family's death ran through her mind. Her hair fluffed from the electricity she generated, and her anger almost crumbled the glasses she held.

"You'll need those." Lucas said, sitting up with his bedridden hair. Anon's hair flamed from her surprise, and she looked over to him a little annoyed. He glanced down at the glasses, then back up at her. She then looked down at the sunglasses, the sun shined off of their shaded lens. Anon sighed, relaxing her hands, and placing the glasses in a pocket of her leather jacket. He was right, she shouldn't break them.

"Sorry.." Anon apologized with a sigh, looking back out the window, tracing her finger on a crack on the wall. Lucas looked at her curiously, the shadows had warned him she was feeling uneasy of this place.

Lucas, like the others, had developed a fondness for the nature of the surface, the blue sky and breeze of the air felt better than he ever could have imagined. He was troubled that Anon couldn't see the beauty of it all, for her heart was clouded with hatred - grey and angry like the ocean during a storm. Lucas rubbed his eyes with a hand, still trying to wake up. He had tried to persuade her to try and get some rest, but she refused. The others in the group thought she was just pissed about everything, and in a way she was, but Lucas knew that she was nervous. The boy swung his legs around and got up, his boots thumped on the concrete as he walked over to sit on the metal frame next to Anon.

"Hey.." He started, bending his head down to meet Anons eyes. "Don't wallow in hatred, look outside, and try to observe past all which you despise." Lucas stated poetically. Anon looked at him, her eyes somber, then glanced out the window. The sun did feel nice at least, it was warm and inviting. She smiled a bit, something that the girl almost never did. Lucas grinned in response, he knew she would listen to him.

It was then when laughter erupted from another room, and Lucas looked out their door curiously. "You can stay here if you want, it seems that some of the others are awake." He spoke, standing up. Anon looked over to watch him leave, deciding she might join the others later. Emphasis on might, since Anon wasn't usually very social.

Lucas walked into the room where two others sat, Joon and Saiwala. They seemed to be getting along fairly well, no reason he couldn't join in on their conversation. "Hello all." He greeted with a yawn, rubbing his eyes again though it still proved to be ineffective in helping him wake up. Lucas didn't see another chair or anything so he just decided to stand.

When they sat on the bench, Carter absorbed what Asa was saying and didn't say anything. He didn't know how to respond, but what Asa said was true. After hearing his mate speak, he realized didn't think about it like that. It completed the bigger picture that made the mundanes so...different from them.

Asa rested his head on Carter's shoulders, much like he did when they were children and Carter would console him. And after dating for as long as they have, their gestures towards each other never changed either. "Family doesn't stop at blood for the Uisilons, but it seems like up here, with the Mundanes, it doesn't even start with blood. And I can't handle that, can't live up here, knowing that."

Carter thought for a moment, then nodded. “To be honest...I feel exactly like that too.” He looked up at the sunny sky though his sunglasses and let Asa rest on him for a while. “Home is where the heart is, like that Mundane saying, I guess.” He smirked. When they finished their deep conversation, Carter felt like it was enough of philosophical talk, so he got up and stretched.

“Well I don't know about you, but I'm starving. As much as we babbled there about the mundanes, though...” Carter shuffled through his pockets and took out a little bit of Mundane money. “They do make some pretty damn good food.” He only had 10 bucks to spend that he earned after bumping into an old lady paid that him to carry some of his groceries. If there was ever anything they needed to buy, it'd be food. Or at least, that was Carter's opinion. He just really liked food.

Carter contemplated going back to their living place and bringing everyone else to get food, but...he just wanted to be alone with Asa for a bit. They walked to a nearby coffee shop that always had a pleasant aroma coming from it. Carter grew excited as they looked at the glass window with the baked goods. The cashier seemed to walk away just as they arrived, so they had some time to look at what they wanted to buy.

“Let's see if there's anything we can bring back for the rest of the group...” Carter trailed, looking at all the different items up for sale. He noticed a bunch of circular rings that immediately caught his eye. There was a sale for a package of 10 for 7.99.

“Hey, look at these colorful glazed ring bread things!” He then stared at the label and raised an eyebrow questionably. “Oh. Doughnuts.” He mumbled and glanced at Asa. “You see anything that you like?”
