Better writing is still subjective and opinionated. Of the great literary masters of the most influential and abundant genres, there are still preferences and tastes. You can generalize a few tiers of writing, sure, but you won't be able to define an overall mechanic or pattern for quality after some point. Basically, you can teach a sculptor how to make a perfect base, but what they make from there, whether you like it or not, is going to be preference to every viewer from then on, whether they're ignorant or veteran critics. If you want to judge those that don't take writing seriously and just want to enjoy NOT BEING themselves for a short period of time, you need to understand that they aren't performing the same action with the same motives as you. Often, they don't care about the health of a roleplay. They don't care about logic, continuity, plots or other characters they interact with in the long run. They write for the moment, even if they reuse the same character. It is an act that they enjoy, and judging them because you prescribe it more value is pointless.

This is why I, through an "elitist" perspective, support high levels of roleplaying segregation. Make entire areas meant for those different kinds of people. Don't judge the quality of a roleplay, but the reason for it - that's often far, far more important. At times, I want to roleplay for entirely different reasons. At times, I want to create these magnificent, extended worlds for people to explore and to connect with them on a literary level while at other times I just want to temporarily express my feelings or state of mind at the time. Many, many people around here will call me many things: an elitist jerk; a toxic, cancerous member of the community; a wonder in the sense I haven't been banned - all in common that I often get a negative reputation. What none of them, aside from the saltier ones, will say is that I'm a poor roleplayer. I roleplay and I know why I roleplay and I always make sure that when I roleplay, I roleplay with the correct intentions in comparison to those around me. Roleplaying isn't just about you; it's about those you interact with. It's about being part of something. If you want to just write, do it solo; start a blog or a book. But, if you're here, then you obviously seek something different or something "more" than just writing solo, even if it is just to test and develop your skills alongside others. It is, in my opinion, a great act of hypocrisy to willingly show up knowing that you are here because you want to do something that is "different" or "more" then judge or look down on others that, at the very core, want the same thing, but merely have different intentions and standards as to how they attain it.

If I am a hypocrite then it implies that I dissed non-serious or casually rp'ing folks, then posted like them anyway. That accusation is false and only shows you misjudged me based on your perception that I contradicted myself. I respect all forms of RP and all role players, you included. So I'd abstain from labeling you with a single word, will keep it to myself. Avoid drama and keep this a healthy discussion instead of starting unnecessary flaming with a person I don't really know.

I'd really like to hone in on this, because this really speaks to the heart of my point.

I casually roleplay. Very little of what I write would I deem inspiring in any manner. I know precisely when I write something that is better than what I normally do - a post that someone, but maybe not everyone, finds inspiring.

Writing. Is. Subjective.

I respect roleplaying even if I do it casually. Even if my posts aren't that inspiring. These posts, which you still have in your OP, do not ruin threads.

I don't really see my posts as grand, but I am confident enough they are not trash, or mediocre even, I can give you the input of numerous others to judge my writings. Like said it is subjective, so your own liking of my posts are your own set of judgment and criticism. And the zombie RP is called 'The Walking Dead: The ties that bind', and I am very aware that my posts in that particular RP are of high quality because I actually admire the subject.

I don't know what you consider high quality and inspiring, big and eloquent but empty words? Long paragraphs of fillers? Read my first three posts on that zombie thread then come back here and you may judge and criticize.

However, I didn't call your posts anything. You are the one trying to tie negative adjectives too them. What I did state is that your rant and your posts don't seem to be congruent.

I will also reiterate that your experience is what you make it. If you are struggling to write with particular individuals, you can find other individuals to roleplay with. You have the most power in crafting your user experience - you should wield that power.

You made no clarification or distinction between some and all here.
So you criticize strictly roleplays, no effort to separate specific kinds of players, or specific players period then it defaults to all.

+Even if free is meant to be fun those are still RP's you are abandoning your 'literary medium' beliefs for.
So is it more accurate to say you expect Casual and Advanced RP's to be not for fun for as a literary medium?
If so, you still need to explain why you aren't account for fun RP's in them.

And if the answer is something along the lines of "Only certain one of those need to be". Then you've got nothing to complain about, the Guild is already like that.
You have some for fun, you have some meant to be more serious. If you end up in a fun one that's not a problem with the site, just like luck of draw when it came to the style of the RP you happened to sign up for.

I much prefer games I'm in to be a collaborative story, not really a "game", but I do understand that game elements must exist. For example there must be some sort of "game master" who pushes the story in a direction, a group of creatives with no direction might argue and write a sprawling mess! Also if everyone is planning the plot like a story, how can there be any drama? A GM is needed to thrown in some curveballs that the other writers don't expect. Surely?
