Arvo pursed his lips together absentmindedly as he walked down the school hall slowly, the short boy glanced around with a pretty confused look on his face.
This was his first day of this whole exchange student program and.. Well, they said that someone would show him around! He didn’t think he’d have to go a dang scavenger hunt to find them though.

He had thought they were going to meet up in the front office or something, but nope! They just told him their name, and a kind of vague description of what they looked like before they pretty much shoved him out into the busy school.
Uh, well, hes glad that he doesn’t actually have any classes today, because he’d be absolutely clueless. Like what, they just gonna give him a door color and a vague description of the teacher or something? S h e e s h.

As Arvo turned a corner, he had spotted a boy who seemed to fit what he was told! Also they really weren’t kidding with the ” super tall ” thing, huh? He just took another quick, nervous glance around before he made his way over to the other.
Ben hadn’t seemed to notice him at first, he was too busy digging through his bag for something, so Arvo just gave him a quick tap of the shoulder.

❝ Uh, excuse me? ❞ He said, an awkward smile spreading across his face as he spoke up, not really expecting the reaction he was going to get here in a moment.

❝ Are.. Uh, You is Ben Paul, yes? I be told that they would show around school and things, so uh.. ❞

❝ If not him, d-do know him? I sorry, was not given much help with find them and uh.. ❞

He had been informed earlier in the week of the exchange student he’d be required to take under his wing for the duration of the exchange program the school had agreed to participate in. Arvo, a boy his age from Russia - who’s English apparently needed some work - was the extremely vague description the school’s staff had given him about who he was paired with, and it left Ben without the slightest idea of who he was really supposed to be looking for.

They’d also seemed to have forgotten to tell Ben exactly what time he could expect this new student to show up. Ben had spent the majority of the morning scanning the hallways in search of any strange faces, but so far, he hadn’t been so lucky to find anybody that he didn’t recognize. It was obvious that the system their school ran on seriously needed some work, however it was too late now to complain.

It was currently nearing the first bell that signaled the start of classes, and with the assumption that this new student would show up sometime later in the day, Ben had turned his attention to his locker in order to remove the books he’d crammed in there the day before and transfer them to the backpack he held loosely in his arms.

His mind far from anything else, the last thing he expected was the hasty tap he felt prodding his shoulder, and the resulting response had Ben turning around so quickly that his backpack slipped from his hands and fell straight to the floor, its contents of books, paper, and pencils scattering across the tiles as he gave a small yelp of surprise.

Shit,❞ he managed to utter, but before he could apologize or pick up anything that he’d dropped, Ben found himself staring down at a very unfamiliar face, who was apparently in the middle of asking him a series of questions.

As his breaths began to even out after the effects of the scare wore off, embarrassment soon stepped in to take its place, though Ben tried his best to play it cool after he figured out that this must be the mysterious exchange student he was supposedly in charge of showing around. Meeting new people wasn’t exactly one of Ben’s strong suits, and it certainly didn’t help matters that on a second glance, this new guy was really cute.

Wait. Cute?

❝U-uh, yeah. Yeah, I’m Ben Paul,❞ Ben started, his belongings that still lay on the hallway floor long forgotten now as he searched his brain for something to say.

❝Sorry, the school is kind of crappy with giving out information, they should probably work on that. They didn’t help me much, either, I’ve been looking for you all morning, actually, but I guess you found me first. B-but yeah, I’ll be showing you around - don’t worry though, this school isn’t that confusing, so you should be fine.❞ It was only after Ben stopped in order to actually breathe was when he realized that was rambling like an idiot, and his somewhat unsteady words were coming so fast that he doubted the Russian would even be able to understand any of them anyway.

Taking another steadying breath, he tried again, resisting the strong urge to either apologize or kick himself for being a flustered moron in front of somebody new. He honestly wouldn’t be surprised if the kid turned and ran the other way.

❝Um... your name is Arvo, right?❞

Well, that was a great first impression.

Arvo was abit taken back when the other had turned so suddenly, slinging his backpack and its belongings to the floor by mistake. Arvo jumped and he immediately drew his hand back and held it tight to his body.

He had thought he’d done something wrong, or that he pissed this guy off somehow, not that Ben was just kind of clumsy. So, Arvo seemed a little freaked out at first since he was stood there thinking he was about to get punched in the face. Though when they seemed just as surprised as Arvo was and cursed to themselves which made him think other wise, that it was just a mistake.

He was thankful for that, he didn’t really feel like getting the shit beaten out of him on his first day, you know? Arvo just kinda stood there in shock for a a few more moments. All tense and wide eyed, but after the general surprise had finally worn off he just shook his head with a soft sigh of, ” Sheesh! ” before he had continued on with his little ramble. About how the school didn’t help much and if he was, or at least knew Ben Paul, all that.

After Arvo was done talking about a mile a minute because of his nerves, he took in a small breath. He hadn’t even noticed one he needed one that bad until now. Okay, Okay he really needed to try and calm down. Like, theres being nervous and then theres this, and to him at least, it was a little embarrassing.

Though hey, despite the uh, pretty awkward introduction, he had finally found Ben! Which was obviously confirmed by the rather nervous seeming boy. Hm. I guess that makes two of them then, huh? Though I'll admit, Arvo got a t a d more excited then he probably should've. His face seeming to light up, the somewhat awkward smile on his face becoming a much more sincere one.

❝ Oh god, finally!-- ❞ He blurted out, cutting the other off in the middle of their own ramble. The realization not seeming to hit until a few moments later, but when it did it was pretty obvious. His cheeks had flushed a light pink color, his hands shooting up to his collar to mess with it nervously.

❝ I-I mean, uh, yes, they need do work on help, y-yes. ❞ He said, his voice seeming to gently crack half way through his sentence. He kind of trailed off on his sentence, his eyes darting off the other way to try and hide his slight awkwardness. If this worked or not is rather debatable. AKA, most likely not.

After his little out-burst though, he did listen up to Ben's little ramble. Even if he was slightly concerned with the fact they didn't seem to be b r e a t h i n g anytime during it. That and uh, some of the English words he didn't quite know were being smushed together which sounded odd. Though hey, he was sure he got the important bits of it.
Uh, hopefully anyway. I mean, even if he didn't, he was sure as hell gonna keep nodding his head like he understood perfectly. Though the next sentence was a thing he d i d understand thankfully, one of the first he learned. Er, well, that wasn't him teaching himself curse words and insults.

Anyway, uh, he should probably stop just standing there like a idiot and not saying anything.

❝ N-Name? Oh, yes, yes, my name Arvo. Is correct. ❞

Well, it could've been worse. He almost asked for the others name again out of nerves, but thankfully stopped himself, so.

❝ I-I uh, anyway, you meant to show me around school, yes? I am unsure when that meant to happen, since I did hear bell so I not know if I wait till after you are done or?-- ❞ This whole situation was a just a huge mess of confusion, huh? Mostly just because the school didn't seem to plan out this little event very well though.

Mild guilt washed over Ben once he realized that his strong reaction had startled the other, the hint of a sympathetic look crossing his features in direct response. The two quite obviously were frightened probably a little *too* easily, though from a positive outlook, that was just one thing that they already had in common. Still, Ben felt obligated to apologize for his crude outburst even after the other teen had brushed it off, eyebrows furrowing apologetically. ❝Um, sorry about that, by the way. I didn't mean to startle you...❞ he spoke sheepishly, resisting the urge to scratch the back of his head in a very cliché sort of way. ❝I should, uh - maybe try harder not to do that so often,❞ he trailed off to admit, giving a shy grin in his own defense. It was true that such an occurrence wasn't at all out of the ordinary for the taller. Whether it be unexpected loud noises, or as in Arvo's case, being approached without any warning, Ben was generally the jumpy type, another thing that he was known for, and therefore picked on for by the football jocks and popular cliques alike. Perhaps with somebody to understand that it wasn't something he could simply control would make it easier on him. No harm done, it appeared as Arvo's expression suddenly beamed around a much more genuine smile, the sight of it seeming to be rather infectious when Ben's own grin grew in size as well. It also proved to be a tad distracting as Ben barely noticed the interruption that followed, though the same apparently couldn't be said for the other as the inkling of a blush dusted lightly across his cheeks, and Ben resisted the urge to chuckle at the display before him. He decided against doing so, however, upon seeing the other begin to fumble with the collar of his shirt somewhat anxiously. The obvious act of nerves that was presented to him reminded him so much of himself that it was almost shocking, though not in a bad way. Although he hated those same actions from himself, somehow seeing those similarities from Arvo did nothing but intrigue him, and he soon caught himself staring while the other spoke, the accent that rolled off his tongue sparking a certain interest that Ben couldn't quite place. Once he did realize that he was almost gawking at the other, it took all the mental effort not to literally kick himself; with his luck, Arvo would probably assume that he was gaping at him for all the wrong reasons. Stupid, stupid, stupid... So he quickly attempted to cover himself. ❝Y-yeah, hopefully they'll fix that soon. Not that it matters now, since we managed to find each other, I guess,❞ he said quickly, giving a nervous laugh that almost earned a cringe out of himself. *Stupid*. At least Arvo managed to catch the part of his babbling about his name, to which he thankfully confirmed. That was a start, he supposed, and he made a mental note to actually slow down in the future while talking to Arvo so that he'll be able to understand him. It wouldn't be much use to do nothing but confuse the exchange student he is meant to support during his stay in an all American school; it certainly couldn't be easy to comprehend everything that will be thrown his way, therefore it would be helpful for at least Ben to provide him with some form of stability. ❝Okay, well then it's nice to finally meet you, Arvo,❞ Ben greeted officially, smile growing further as his nerves slowly decreased. In fact, in the midst of it all he'd successfully managed to have forgotten the bell that had rung just minutes prior to their encounter until Arvo brought it up, and his smile faded slightly as he also regretfully recalled the mess of paper and books that still lay strewed across a now empty hallway. ❝Ah, yeah...❞ he sighed in defeat as he scanned his belongings that would need gathering before he went to class. If he was late, he hoped that his History teacher would understand the reason and not make a big deal out of it. ❝I'll show you around the rest of the school at the lunch break. I guess you can just come with me to class until then? I have History first, you can probably just sit and watch?❞ he offered, hoping that would suffice for the time being.
