Climbing through the small hole in the wall Sam looked around, but the snow from last night had covered up and tracks that may have been made. “Jayna, where are you?” He asked quietly to himself. If she had been here overnight he was afraid she may have already died, either by cold or by… whatever else lives here. Strangely enough though it seemed empty and quiet now. He began following the wall, figuring he would at least not get lost doing so and walked for what felt like a very long time. Then, suddenly up ahead the boy could hear shouting. It was a strange voice, one he did not recognise with a strange accent. Hurrying he was about to break into the clearing where the figure stood before he stopped, seeing Jayna on the ground and the boy standing over her, wielding a knife made out of a strange material he had never seen before. “Now, do you still wish to die? Because if so I will happily kill you right here right now and throw your body back over the wall myself as a warning to anyone else foolish enough to think about coming to this place!” A small gasp escaped his mouth and he quickly reached for his bow. Drawing back he shot quickly, without much aim or time taken. There had been no time. He wasn’t about to let Jayna die. Luka heard a strange noise from behind him, but only made it through half a turn before he felt something piece his shoulder and he cried out in pain. The blade fell from his hand and he dropped to the ground, clutching at his shoulder as blood began oozing from the wound, following the arrow shaft down before dripping onto the ground. At the same instant there was a horrible screech, like tearing metal, the same noises as last night and a huge, dark figure burst from the trees with incredible speed and leapt at the archer, pouncing on him before any party could blink and biting viciously into his shoulder. Standing slowly as Cade came stalking into the clearing, a growl radiating from deep within his stomach as he dragged the boy along by his shoulder. Luka looked to the girl as the boy screamed in pain, blood flooding the snow. “Leave him.” Cade growled deeply but did as Luka asked and dropped Sam to the ground and began walking over to Luka, Sam whimpering in pain as he clutched at his shoulder, shaking violently. “You chose life. Then go live it. Take him back to your village and get him taken care of before he dies.” Cade walked over to Luka, making a soft, almost concerned noise, practically disregarding the others now. Luka looked to him and smiled slightly. “I’m fine.” He assured the creature. “Let’s just get out of here.” Cade lay down and Luka moved; climbing up onto the creature’s back with a small wince and a groan of pain. As he stood Luka looked over to the girl and the human boy with a small frown. “I better not see either of you here again. Go home. Warn your village about what lurks here. Fix the wall. Save more people the temptation in the future.” He warned as the creature turned and disappeared quickly into the woods.

Jayna stood staring at him as the arrow pierced his shoulder. She didn't more or react in fear of something happening to her. She then looked around and her eyes fell on Sam. She hadn't known him personally but he was someone that she had seen around the village. She might of even went to school with him at some point. She then watched him as the daemon came out of no where and bit into his shoulder. "No... No..." her mind was racing now, but still she seemed frozen in place. Unable to make her feet obey and move. She turned and stared at the Luka and the daemon as they seemed to be communicating. Her eyes couldn't believe that he just got on the back of this thing and took off into the woods. Not wasting another minute she went to where Sam was dropped and knelt down. "Sam, can you walk. We have to go. Before he changes his mind." Jayna was rather angry at the fact they were just left to make it back by themselves, she just hoped that they didn't run into any other daemons before doing so. This was going to be the beginning of war. She wouldn't rest until she took out the problem. They shouldn't have to live in fear like they had all their lives. She dug around in her back and found an shirt that she had packed extra. She tore it into strips and then used it to cover his wound as good as she possibly could. She then put her back pack back on and looked to Sam. She had barely known this boy and yet he somehow had found her and saved her.

Sam seemed dazed, as one would naturally expect from such an experience. He was still staring at where the creature had disappeared into the forest, unable to believe what he had seen. He heard a voice talking to him, but only just managed to catch the last part of the words. He was still in shock, a condition which was rapidly growing worse. He’d stopped screaming now and sat there entranced, his eye fixed to where the creature had run off. When Jayna began working on his shoulder he cried out again, having not been paying attention it caught him off guard. “Are… are you alright?” He asked eventually, his mind was sluggish at the moment, so the words came out slowly. “We should go.” He didn’t realise he was being agreeable, but he was. “This way.” He stood up slowly, clutching at his shoulder, trying to support it so as to ease some of the pain. He may be very confused at this point, but he easily taken note of where the sun was on his way there. It didn’t take him long to find the wall again and he directed Jayna in the right direction. From there they only had to follow it, for what felt like a very long time for Sam, before they came across a hole. ** Cade had made to back to the den and Luka slid off his back, clutching at his shoulder. He was still not entirely sure what had happened back there, but above it all he was glad he hadn't had to kill the girl. She’d chosen life; he was interested to see what she’d do with it now. That other boy had been a factor he hadn't anticipated. Breaking off the pointy end of the arrow he gripped it, taking a few deep breaths before pulling it out without much noise. Cade lingered, making small anxious noises. “I’m alright.” The boy said, pushing the creatures head aside. “I just need some rest.” Luke said as he gently lowered himself into the warm, soft, fur lined den and settled in as Cade followed, curling up protectively beside him as the pair fell asleep despite the sun still being high in the sky.

Jayna knew he was a bit in shock from being bitten and actually seeing one. Much the same way she was when she had first saw one. Sighing some she helped him up and then started to follow him as he lead the way back to the wall. She had never been more happy to see the wall that caused so much fear and concern within the village. She had to change the ways or figure a way back to Luka, so she could better understand the creatures. Her curiosity got the better of her, part of her wanted the daemons dead but after seeing how Luka interacted with the one, maybe they didnt deserve to die after all. "I am alright. You are the one that got bite. Why would you come out here anyways, Sam?" She barely knew him and didnt know why he would risk his own life to come across here. There was a lot going through her mind and she wasnt sure what to do or how to solve it all. There was enough time for that, first thing they needed to get home and then figure out if they were going to fix the hole in the wall or not. And if they chose too, how would she get back. Sighing she made her way through the hole in the wall and then waited for him to come through.

Sam smiled slightly, despite everything at her question as she helped him through the wall. “I was worried.” He said simply at first. The village was in sight and the pair were slowly making their way back to it, but Sam could feel himself growing weaker, blood still dripped from his wounds despite Jayna’s best attempts to patch them up. He needed a doctor. And probably a miracle. “I went to your house to check up on you, after your family disappearing… but you weren’t there. I knew what must have gone through your head, where you must have gone so I guess I had the same mentality as you did. I needed to see if you were still alive.” He laughed slightly. “And I end up coming back in worse shape than you did.” They were closer to the village now, and people were spotting them, calling out in alarm and rushing to help them. Two older males took Sam from Jayna and began carrying him towards the local doctors. “Jayna!” He called back to her. “If you see that boy again… thank him for me will you?” It probably sounded like a really stupid thing to ask, but in the end he had told that creature not to kill him. It was because of him that he was alive now and, though he couldn’t prove it either way, he was certain it was because of that other boy that Jayna was still alive too.

Jayna listened as he mentioned why he went over there in the first place and she sighed a bit. "I am sorry Sam, I had no idea you would come looking for me. I figured I had nothing else to lose. I mean with my family and all being gone now." She sighed some more and then as they came upon the town she watched as they all gathered to help. This was her village, people her parents had known for years. She took a deep breath and watched as they took Sam from her and carried him off. She heard his words but wasn't sure what to make of them. Should she go back? Would Luka even listen to her if she did? Or would she be able to find him at all? Many questions kept running through her mind. A couple of the village people came up to her and inspected her from injuries but there was none. They were asking questions but she blew them off not answering or wanting to talk about any of it. Not till she had a better idea of what she was going to do about it. She sighed again and then started walking after the men that carried Sam. She needed to stay with him and see what his thoughts were on their story. What he would tell them? And what they thought the people would believe. Her life was changing rapidly and she sure in the hell didn't it like.

Sam was carried to the doctor’s house, where he was quickly hurried inside. At this point the world was starting to grow dark, the adrenaline and natural pain killers his body had were all used up now and unconsciousness was quickly approaching to claim him and at this point he was too tired to fight it. However when Jayna tried to follow the doctor quickly turned to stop her. “I’m sorry… we’re probably going to have to operate on him, we can’t have any unnecessary people in there.” Her eyes softened and she placed a hand gently on Jayna’s shoulder. “Go home sweetie, get some rest. You look exhausted. I’ll make sure someone comes to get you when you can come see him.” When exactly that time would be she couldn’t say for certain. That wound looked vicious, as if a giant wolf or something had attacked him. He would be out for a long time whilst his body recovered. She was fairly certain he’d live, but until she got a proper look there would be no telling the fate of his arm. He was lucky it was still attached from the looks of it. All in all she needed to get to work and the woman turned and headed inside, the door closing behind her.

She sighed some as the doctor seemed to stop her and tell her she couldnt go in. She watched as the doctor went in and closed the door behind her. She wasnt going home, there was nothing there to go home too. Right now she wanted to make sure Sam was okay. She had seen him around town a couple of times and all but she really didnt pay much attention to him. Now he had her full attention. Jayna sat just outside the door and leaned against the wall. She brought her knees up and laid her head in them. She needed to get cleaned up as well, a night on the other side of wall left her drained and exhausted but her mind was focused on Sam.

The passed and inside was eerily silent. As the sun began to dip down below the surface, casting everything in a harsh orange light and elongating all the shadows. The doctor eventually emerged from her house, but seemed surprised to see Jayna there. “Have you been here all day?!” She said in shock. “Sweetie… he’s resting now, he’s been unconscious since we brought him in, but he’s stable. He needs to be left alone to rest and so do you. It’s going to be some time before he’s strong enough to even wake up or speak, let alone to see people.” Her eyes softened slightly and she gave the girl a gentle smile. “I know you must be worried… or perhaps just curious as to what happened. But you’re not going to find out today.” And with that she retreated back inside, closing the door. ** The sun was setting and the angle of the light cast right into the den. Cade was roused by it however instantly felt that something was off. Beside him Luka’s breathing was laboured and the creature looked at him with some concern. Placing his head to the boy’s cheek he could feel how hot he was and he wouldn’t rouse even when he nudged or prompted him. His wound looked red and very wrong. Now deeply concerned the daemon came to one simple conclusion. This was a wound made by the humans. They must know how to fix it. Scooping the boy up onto his back Cade moved out into the snow as the light faded as he began making his way north. To the Wall.

Jayna stood as the doctor came out only to be told she still couldnt see him. She sighed and then turned and went back towards her house. Still she didnt clean up but instead glanced in the direction to the wall. Her mind wondered how the other boy was doing, who had been shot with the arrow. Sighing she shook her head and then headed in the direction of the wall. She knew she was taking a risk by going back to the wall but she had to know and had to tell him thanks. It was one of the last things that Sam had wanted. Headed to the wall now with her mind made up that she had to find the boy and find out if the bite was poisonous and if Sam would survive it. The doctor said he had would but she didnt sound convinced. Sighing some she got to the hole in the wall and stepped through. Her heart racing with nerves as she glanced around. The sun was setting and she knew the risk she took by going back over especially when she had barely made it back the first time. She just hoped to run into Luka and the daemon in which he seemed to communicate with.

As he approached the wall Cade picked up the scent of human again. It took him a little while to determine whether it was a fresh scent or just some lingering from all the human activity recently. As the wall loomed closer he approached carefully as his sensitive ears picked up the sounds of a figure struggling in the snow. The beast paused for a moment, glancing over his shoulder at Luka. The boy felt weak, his breathing was too laboured. Cade didn’t want a face to face fight. However he had a job to do and figured he could scare the intruder off. Approaching out of the darkness his growl rumbled deeply and hissed, the air fogging around his mouth from the heat. However he stopped almost instantly as he recognised the scent. It had put him off for a moment, she had been covered in the blood of the boy, but her scent was very present with Luka, so he had recognised it once he had gotten past that. Silently the creature approached her, his body language calm and passive, there was no sign of the aggression that had been present moments ago. Walking up to the girl he stopped only a few feet from her and made a soft noise, almost like a whimper as he looked to Luka on his back.

Jayna sighed some as she began to walk along the wall not veering far from it. She then stopped frozen in her steps as she heard a noise. A grow it sounded like. She started to head backwards towards the hole when she the noise stopped. She sighed some, her heart racing as she debated with herself on weather to go back or to continue on. Her eyes then found the creature that had made the noise. And she almost forgot to breath as it approached her. "Please dont hurt me. I didnt come to bother you. I came to thank Luka." She stated though she wasnt sure if it understood her or not. Watching the creature she then realized that Luka was on its back. She blinked several times as the creature seemed to be in need of something, but what. She watched as it stopped a few feet from her and how it was being rather docile. Slowly she took a few steps closer and then sighed some. "Hes hurt still.." She said and took a few more steps closer to him. "I wont hurt you. I can get him help. But you have to stay hidden. The people wont understand." She couldnt even understand it all but she would try to help as best as she could and keep them a secret. They were ravishing beast if it was showing this much emotion over Luka.

Cade, although knowing he needed help, was still wary of the human as she slowly approached him. Whilst he was doing his best to control the instincts that inside him his chest was still rumbling with a quiet growl. The problem was that he just didn’t understand what was wrong with Luka. Daemon wounds healed differently to human wounds, and often healed at a rapid rate. So he’d never experienced an infection before. Looking to the girl, at least she seemed to understand what he wanted and the daemon turned, walking swiftly towards the hole in the Wall. However once there he stopped and looked to her. He couldn’t cross. No matter how much he wanted to, the daemons still considered themselves to be in a state of peace with the humans. As such, his kinds laws forbade him from crossing. Luka was not daemon, though they treated him like kin he was not bound by the same laws as they were. Lying down he allowed the boy to slide off his back and looked to the girl again. He doubted help would willingly come to this side, so she’d have to go on without him, despite the fact that he didn’t trust her and the idea of leaving his den-mate with her worried him.

Jayna watched as the daemon carried him to the hole in the wall. She then saw the hesitation and sighed some. He didnt want to leave Luka just as she hadnt wanted to leave Sam. "I will take care of him. I will also come back each night and let you know." she wasnt sure if it understood her but the most she could do was try. He seemed a bit aware of the situation and was leaving his friend to her hands, just as she had done with Sam. Walking over to Luka she helped him to his feet and supported much of his weight as she headed to the hole in the wall. "Come back same time tomorrow..." She stated to the daemon as she glanced over her shoulder one last time. It seemed the creature was willing to let her help Luka though she wasnt sure how well it would be if it wasnt for Luka being hurt. After all is was one her kind that had hurt Luka even if it was to save her. Once getting him across and to her house she sighed some. Laying him on the couch she got a glass of luke warm water and set it beside him. She needed to go get the doctor. But what would she say. She thought on this for a moment as she paced the room and kept staring at Luka. How had her life changed so much in just a couple of days or so. Here she was thinking she was alone for the rest of her life and now two boys had caught her attention and needed her to be there for them.

Cade lay by the wall for a very long time, daemons had very different eyesight to humans. Their vision at night was impeccable, however they struggled to see things that were further away or slow moving though they had the ability to pick up quick moving objects the rest of their senses usually helped to make up for some of their sight weaknesses. Still, he lay there staring out of the hole long after he couldn’t see Luka anymore. However the creature knew he wouldn’t be coming back any time soon and he was still hungry. Standing the creature moved away from the hole reluctantly. He began attempting to focus on the task at hand, his hunger driving him but his mind continued to wonder. Generally the daemons of the wall didn’t take den mates for this reason. They were a distraction. Of course this situation was slightly different than anything any of them had experienced before and often Luka was thought of more of a youngling rather than a partner, which didn’t have to be explicitly sexual. Often daemons would just form exceptionally close bonds with one another. As such he couldn’t help but worry. He already noticed the others avoiding him, afraid of asking the condition of the boy. He just had to believe that he’d be alright. Luka had always proven he was tougher than what they often gave humans credit for. They could survive wounds that would easily kill most other creatures. But this seemed more like a sickness than a wound. He’d never experienced the boy getting sick before.

Jayna sighed a bit and looked at the spot on his shoulder. It looked rather nasty and she wasnt sure what to do. Sighing she left her house and headed to the doctors house. Everyone knew everyone in her village. She knocked and then waited for an answer. Once the door opened she looked at the doctor with begging eyes. "I need your help. Please come with me and bring your med bag." She stated her voice sounded rather urgent. She then started back to her house with the doctor in tow. "What is it Jayna, what is so urgent at this time. I done told you Sam would be okay.." The doctor stated as they walked trying to figure it all out. Jayna sighed as she tried to form a story. She wasnt sure how well it would work but she would have to try and get the doctor to believe her. "Well we were out on the other side and this thing attacked me, Sam shot at it but hit another boy. Then it went after Sam. It was big like a bear or something. It all happened so fast. Anyways, I was walking home and heard the boy. He seems to have gotten the arrow out but I think hes got an infection." She fibbed on some things without hesitation as she was trying to protect Luka and the creature that had brought him to her. It seemed they had a bond and she knew Luka would never forgive her if anything happened to it. The doctor nodded having more questions but not saying anything as they came upon Jayna's house. Jayna opened the door and walked in allowing her in as well. "I brought him here because he isnt from the village. I need to keep him a secret Doctor." She stared ahead again her eyes pleading with the doctor. She then stepped back and let the doctor examine him and figure out what was best to do. After a few minutes the doctor stepped back and dug around in her bag. "This is antibiotic cream, apply it to the wound three times a day. These are antibiotic pills, get him to take them twice a day. If we can get rid of the infection he will be alright. But only time will tell. " She then walked over and cleaned the wound and applied the cream. "I will leave you everything to treat it and I will be back tomorrow evening to check on him. Jayna I know there is more, I know you just dont want to say, but i think you need to reconsider. Two boys are injured and hurt over all of this. How many more are you going to allow to be hurt just so you dont have to say anything or because you think you are protecting them. " The doctor then sighed some and walked to the door. Jayna sighed as well and looked to her. "I told you what I know." She simply said and watched the doctor leave. She then grabbed a chair and walked over and sat beside Luka. Reaching out and feeling his forehead checking for fever. "What am I going to do." She asked herself as she sat there.

“He looks like he’s recovering well enough. The fever has gone down and his shoulder seems a lot less irritated. Make sure to keep reapplying that cream to his wound every few hours and changing the bandages. He should be waking up soon… sometime today hopefully. Sam’s still not ready for visitors. He woke up briefly this morning, but once he ate something he was back out again.” The voice was a strange one, not one he recognised and her words made no sense to Luka. It sounded like she was talking to someone.

His eyes fluttered open to see a woman leaving and it took his hazy mind a few minutes to realise fully what was going on. He was in a strange place; that much was painfully obviously. He was lying in… a bed he thought. Though he wasn’t sure if that was the right word. Looking around he realised he was in a house. His memories from before the wall were hazy to say the least, but he vaguely remembered something like this from his childhood. His eyes eventually fell on the girl from the other night and instantly his body tensed and he went to grab for his blade before letting out a hiss of pain.

This finally brought his attention to his shoulder, which was covered in a soft piece of white stuff that he wasn’t familiar with. But he was aware it was throbbing very painfully and as he pulled back the gauze he revealed the deep arrow wound, which was slightly inflamed and red and memories of being shot slowly came back to him. How he got here though he had no idea and he turned to look at the girl curiously. He hadn't really said anything since waking up and at this point he was considering whether he should just run or not. But his knife was missing. Along with his shirt. And he felt weak, uselessly weak. He wasn’t in much condition to run anywhere.

Jayna noted everything that the doctor had left and her words. She then stared at him as he already seemed to be waking up and she tried to walk over but she wasnt sure what to tell him. "Shh.. Calm down. I am not here to hurt you. No one is." She stated rather fast when she saw where his hand was headed for , though it was gone. She then sighed and grabbed the glass of water and extended it out for him to take.

Glancing at the door and then at him she realized he was probably lost and confused about how he had gotten here and she gave a weak smile. "Please dont run. I fear your friend would be mad with me, if you did. I kinda told him I would get you the help you needed. " She stated and then went and sat on the edge of the bed and stared at him. "Careful. Dont move to much." she then wondered if he would catch on to the friend that she had referred too.

She sighed some and then looked around. "So I was headed to the wall to tell you Thanks for not letting your friend, the big guy, kill Sam. I am not sure how he is entirely yet but he said to make sure to tell you thanks. I was going to make sure his last wish was fulfilled incase something bad happened with him. But then your friend, the big guy, like met me at the wall, with you on his back. I didnt understand anything but he lowered you and allowed me to take you and get you help. I think he knew that I would be able to." She stopped then and stared up at him unsure if he was even following or not. "How are you feeling, do you need anything else?" She asked as she was unsure of what to say or do now.

Luka’s eyes were wide and he followed the girl’s actions closely, though he visibly flinched back when she offered the glass to him, pressing himself against the backboard of the bed. It was a very strange situation for him to be in. He felt so comfortable and in control with the daemons, safe. But here… here was a strange and frightening world full of creatures he was no longer familiar with whom he didn’t trust and could hurt him. Her words made about as much sense as they could given the situation.

The injury he’d sustained had obviously been more severe than he’d thought and Cade had brought him to the wall in hopes of getting him help that the daemons could simply not provide. She’d been there… for some reason or another and had brought him here. She’d saved him. Luka cursed softly under his breath. He hated the idea of owing this girl a life debt. “Cade.” He eventually said, figuring ‘your friend’ and ‘the big guy’ were silly things to refer to him to. “My friend’s name is Cade.” He then realised that, in all the time the pair of them had been over the wall, fighting and such he had never learnt her name, nor had he ever introduced himself.

At the time it had seemed like a pointless endeavour, since he had assumed she wouldn’t be in his life for very long and it would have been easier to forget a nameless face. However fate seemed determined that they be together for whatever reason. It would be easier if he knew her name. “And… thank you, for saving me. I’d probably given you more than a few reasons to hate me and want me dead.” Though he supposed he could always leave out the debt part. “My name is Luka, by the way. Where are we anyway?” He’d rather distract is mind from his current situation.

She sighed some as he mentioned the creatures name. How could he possibly know that when they didnt seem to communicate like normal humans. She looked at him as if she was trying to picture the exact moment when Luka had learned of the creatures name. She gave up and just nodded. "Cade, brought you to the wall as I was going back over to find you. I think he knew that you needed medical help that he couldnt give." She stated once again and then glanced around the room. Sighing some she sat down on the edge of the bed as he began to talk once again.

"I was actually coming to say thank you to you as well. Because had you not called off Cade, my friend Sam would be dead. I am not sure how bad off he is just yet, they wont even let me see him. But I do know without you stopping Cade he wouldnt even have a fighting chance, and Sam wanted you to know that he was thankful for that." She stated and then stared at him as he mentioned his name and where he was. She smiled a bit and then extended her hand as if to shake his if he took it. "I am Jayna. Nice to meet you Luka. This is my village, my home, where I live. We all pretty much know everyone else and its a pretty small town. The doctor has already been to check on you and I need to change and keep the wound clean. Also the antibiotics so it fights the infection from the inside as wel." She stated once again and then glanced away from him as thoughts ran through her mind.

She sighed some and looked back at him. "I am not sure how long it will take before the infection is gone but I told Cade I would bring updates and meet him at the wall the same time as he had brought you here. I dont know if he understood, but its the least I could offer since he was trusting me to help you. Just cause I know how it can be waiting for news of knowing something and never getting it." She said softly her hands now lying her lap as she fidgeted with her fingers on sure of where this was going to go now. Would he stay? Would he go back? What would happen? It was left all to remain unknown right now.
