If you frequent multiple RP sites you may have seen this search elsewhere. I'm casting a wide net here as I'm finding this show is way more obscure than I'd have initially assumed due to its pedigree. Whoops!
I'm seeking an RP based on the old Miyazaki anime Future Boy Conan, involving the character Monsley. I was intrigued by her from the very first episode, so I was happy to see her stick around as a central character in the story. I also love the setting, and definitely want to explore it more. As a warning, my idea does include some mild spoilers for the show so if you haven't finished it and don't like spoilers, tread carefully.
So my idea is as follows: I want to create an OC for an RP with the storyline centering around them and Monsley, set shortly after the ending of the show. I'd prefer to play a lady OC but I'd be willing to negotiate other genders too as I really want to keep all possibilities open. The idea of the character is that they're someone more or less aligned with the High Harbor way of life (they're probably not from High Harbor itself, though), but they're pretty enthusiastic for how the technology of the old world can be reinvented to help others, especially as the world continues to change.
I'd prefer to have it be an AU where we disregard a certain portion of the ending as I didn't really care much for the part where (more major spoilers hidden here)
But that's enough of my feelings about the ending of an almost 40 year old anime. :)
I'm thinking my character would be close to Monsley's age or maybe a little younger so that they were a young child when the Great Disaster struck, and most of their knowledge of technology and the like is second-hand through older folks or what they've observed from salvage operations and the like. My character could also be interested in preserving the pre-war history, too.
How the two characters become involved we can talk about, but I think it'd be fun to make an adventure story similar in tone to the series with them as the leads, so to speak. Of course, things will probably turn out a bit different tonally with one of the leads being ex-Industrian military as well as them both being adults, but I like the idea of the story ultimately being hopeful and cheery even if Bad Things happen. I'm open to the possibility of AUing the setting somewhat as well as some crossover elements (for example, my favorite 'Ghibli-as-Ghibli' work is Laputa: Castle in the Sky and Conan does feel a bit like a proto-Laputa in a few ways). Romance between Monsley and my character is strictly optional, but negotiable.
I do have some limits for said Bad Things that may happen in the story. I don't want anything involving sexual assault, rape, or any form of incest even if it's just implied. I also want there to be as little misogyny, racism, homophobia, transphobia or other bigotries in the story as possible, even if it comes from the villains. There are plenty of ways to write a compelling story and have cruel villains without resorting to things like that, and I think it's a good guideline to keep things close to the tone of the show. (Heck, just look at Lepka as an example. As despicable as he is I don't remember him talking down to Lana or Monsley because of their gender.)
I'm willing to play other canon characters as well to help flesh out the story, and I'd ask that my partner would too. I feel like this is an idea that might work with more OCs also as we may write the story into locales not seen by the show. Indeed, that's why I want it to be canon x oc in the first place... not out of any self-insert type motivation but because there really isn't another canon character that would fit the kind of role I have in mind for the story.
I'd also be interested in a strictly canon character-based RP following the events of the show, if OCs are a total no-go. However I'd like for it to also ignore the bit of the ending I elaborated on, unless that's absolutely non-negotiable for whatever reason.
I play either over PMs (is PM play a thing here?) or e-mail (can give address if you ask, I have one tucked away just for RP). I don't have any IM clients as I have a pretty difficult time with real-time communication for the most part. Along those lines, I probably won't be the world's chattiest partner but I am up for OOC conversations and the like, I just have a difficult time socializing. I'm looking for partners that can do at least a paragraph per post but don't mind varying it up depending on the pace and tone of the scene.
