The Herenthor, Population:146

Trefsth

Hmph knew that today was the the day, he felt it with his entire being. He was approaching a rather large village the sky suddenly darkened, he looked up to see that the moon was beginning to eat the sun. After a couple of minutes, the whole sun was covered and it was as though it was night! Hmph could hear shouts and screams from the near by village, as everyone above ground watched the sun be devoured. Hmph had lost track of time once the sun had shown it’s face once again. He exclaimed loudly with joy, surely this meant that it was time to teach the word of Threetna to all of the Herenthor. Today was the day.

---

Tref was helping a woman who had dropped something she called ‘pottery’, or “Thaleese” in Herenthorese, while the sun had disappeared. This pottery was a strange thing, and Tref eagerly discussed it with the woman. Apparently she and some other Herenthor were taking mud, shaping it, and using the sun to dry it and create useful items. It was still a new practice, and there was much more exploring to be done. It reminded Tref of the work with the strange rocks, where people were taking them and melting them and then shaping it.

“Maybe using fire would be helpful in this process,” Tref mentioned to this woman as they cleaned up the sharp shards.

“That is an interesting idea,” the woman agreed, “my husband has been working with the strange rocks. He has found that not all of them will melt, and now he has been working to make boxes that will hold the heat of the fire while on works with the strange rocks.”

“Oh, I think this is all so exciting. Life as we know it is changing, new creatures have been found, the people of Trefsth are discovering all new inventions. We are no longer just keeping to ourselves we are growing,” Tref exclaimed, a little loudly. By this point, all thoughts of the eclipse were swept from his mind, which never stayed on one thing for long. He left the woman to tend to her child and walked through the maze that was the village, eventually he found himself at the center, were a marketplace had formed, something very new to Herenthor society. One Herenthor was standing on a platform was standing around him, and some angry murmurs could be heard. Tref walked over to see what the matter was.

“The truth is is that I believe the event in the sky was a sign from Threetna that today is the day her word will be spread. I already knew, but all the Herenthor need to know, so she sent the moon to tell us. There was no evil with today's event,” a Herenthor was explaining to the group.

Tref budge and bumped his way to the front of the group and addressed the man on the stand. “Hello sir, my name is Tref, and this fine village is Trefsth. What is this talk about a Threetna that is making people angry,” Tref asked in a friendly tone.

At this the Herenthor on the stand thought for a moment and answered, “I am a messenger from the God of life, who is called Threetna. All must worship her and her kind, or be destroyed.”

This sparked Tref’s interest, “That sounds very interesting. I’m curious, what do you mean by ‘her kind’?” He wasn’t sure if he believed what the man was saying, but he was interested none the less.

“Threetna is not a Herenthor,” the messenger replied, thrilled someone was taking interest, “she is a beast. Let me call one of her kin.” With that, the messenger let out a long toot. In a couple of minutes, a strange animal ran into view, attracting many strange glances. “Good boy, Ferf,” said the messenger, scratching the animal behind the ear, then he addressed the crowd and Tref, “My Ferf here will soon be a father, and once he his, I will give his children to some of you. Ferf’s kind have many children, and soon all of the Herenthor will live with one, as Threetna said.”

The animal caught Tref’s interest more than what the messenger was saying. It seemed to have bands on its back. “ What are those for?” he asked, pointing.

“I use those to control Ferf when we hunt. Ferf has been my best friend for many years. He will do anything I ask him. He has protected me, and I have protected him,” replied the messenger, rather proudly.

“The animal will do whatever you say?” came a voice from the crowd.

“Yes I have taught him how to hunt, where to excrete waste, and even a couple of tricks,” with that, the messenger clicked his claws twice, and Ferf rolled over.

Tref was amazed and watched with wonder. Then he realized something, “Wait, I haven’t seen you around. What’s your name and where are you from?”

“My name is Hmph. I have lived in the jungle for half my life, I was banished from the large village when I was young. I was once angry about it, but I have realized it has been part of Threetna’s plan to spread her word,” explained Hmph.

“That’s very interesting,” replied Tref, unsure of how he felt. Hmph began to speak again, and Tref’s gaze wandered to the animal, reminding him of the strange bands on around the animal. “Where do those things that you put on Ferf come from,” Tref asked, interrupting.

“Those came from a Thith. I have found that its skin is a strong material,” replied Hmph.

As he was about to restart his preaching, an angry Herenthor cut in, “ How do we know you found that. What if you stole it! How could you have made such ‘amazing’ discoveries if you’ve lived in the jungle! I don’t believe a claw of this Threetna garbage! You are lying in order to steal our food!”

Tref addressed this Herenthor calmly, “I am appalled that you would be so rude to Hmph, he is an amazing Herenthor with amazing ideas. I am unsure about what he is preaching, but no one is allowed to be cruel or rude to him on account of his ideas or preachiing, until we discuss them at the next village council. Now, I don’t want to hear any more yelling, if you are going to act that way, leave him alone and calm yourself done. Sorry about that Hmph, you may continue.”

As Hmph was about to continue his speech, a Herenthor ran up to the group and addressed Tref. “Tref,” he began, winded, “Tref, The brothers Haffle and Driffle are bickering over a well again.”

“Very well,” Tref replied, “ before I go, Hmph, I would ask you not to start any fights, not that you were. Also, try contacting a Herenthor named Ziffee. He has been trying to create something similar to that material you have on Ferf. I would love to see what you have come up with.”

---

It was later that day that Hmph returned to his camp to dine with Ferf and his mate. He was a little disappointed, as he expected the rest of the Herenthor to be more accepting of his teachings. “Oh well,” he disclosed to Ferf, “I’m sure that they will come around eventually. Besides, I should be happy with the progress I have made. Tomorrow a group of thirty Herenthor and I shall begin work on creating a large building where we can worship Threetna and discuss her teachings. Once he was done eating, Hmph retreated to the shelter he had dug and fell asleep.

The 23 Ashen & The Stations of Learning

"Those birds moving with the large sticks. Find out how they made those and how to use them. Do the same with the ones that create patterns with the leaves. Could be useful. Get to it. The rest of you can relax for now."

The hounds looked among one another and growled back and forth about whom would go where. Four hounds lumbered over towards the stick-moving birds and two towards the leaf-patterning ones, grumbling over being taken away from the grooming, but not loud enough for the Alpha to hear. Which was not necessary as the Alpha had already redirected his attention towards the bird that offered him fruit. He took the fruit gently out of her hand and very gently head butted her side as a thank you.

The Stick Wielders

Those that approached the Soruli with their finely cut staffs ended up seeing an eventually pausing of the flowing movements. Heads turned so that their eyes of stars could take them in. One, seemingly younger than the others from its stature and build, moves to jam the end of their staff into a softer patch of dirt so it stands on its own, then extends both arms toward the four legged kin face wanting to cuddle into their fur patches.

Were the Ashen to continue watching first rather than attempt communication to learn the making of the weapons, the Soruli left would begin practicing their dance again, not without some slowed down movements to help the Ashen take in the information.

Afterwards, sticks would be given to two of the four that approached and their forms made to face each other as Soruli stood parallel and motioned them to mimic the movements.

The other two of the four would be shown which trees provided the best wood and how to carve the staff for better usage of the individual.

The Leaf Weavers

The drum players were so close to the weavers that one could feel the beats in their chest. The Ashen pair that joined the Soruli that weaved immediately ended up the recipients of gentle coos and little petting sessions as the weavers went on and on with their work. The one mimicking their motions would be given a length of cut leaf to begin making a pattern with, an especially mothering Soruli starting a new weaving project to show them from the beginning how the leaves were cut and how to begin a pattern to completion.

The Groomed

The building bond led some Soruli to roll their Ashen over to rub bellies and cuddle them. As some were licked, the taste of the colorful pastes and dust on their pale skin made them taste sweet aside from simply smelling so. Some would burst into chirping giggles and end up upon the ground with their hands patting at the Ashen's body.

A few adventurous ones gave the Ashen licks in return, quickly regretting the decision as fur got into their mouths.

Mica observed all this, letting out a little whistle sound as she continued her attention upon the Alpha, much less love-dovey about the whole affair. So bored she begins letting out a sigh, she observes the alpha's size and fur, looking him in the face as she moves to sit on his back, wanting to be in a something semi-comfortable position rather than stand the whole time or sit beneath him.

The other two of the four would be shown which trees provided the best wood and how to carve the staff for better usage of the individual.

The two females trotted over to the slightly smaller bird and burrowed their faces against his chest, gently head butting it. The two males watched for a short time before joining in, the collective four cuddling up against the bird.

After a short while the four would back away and sit down to watch again, the females seeming to keep their attention at the smaller one still.

The females focused mainly on how the sticks were made while still keeping an eye on the male.
The two males did their best to grasp how to handle the art of using them in battle, struggling at first but quickly getting the hang of the basics, doing their best to adapt the style of battle to suit them, being less flowing in their movements and more direct.

The Ashen responded to the coos and petting sessions with purring and gentle scratchings of the bird's backs in return.
The pair looked around in confusion from the odd sound and feeling that they had never felt before, in time tracing it down to a group that were pawing at an odd creation they had not seen before. While they were curious they had been ordered to look at this first.
The male that had tried to mimic their motions was slightly startled by being given materials and stared at the bird that had given it to him until the new creation was started while the other male looked with interest, paying notice to what kind of leaves they used.

The Ashen's purring continued as the grooming and cuddling continued, the sweet taste of the dust making the hounds more prone to licking the birds in an attempt to return the favor for the grooming. Some went as far as to gently hold the birds in place to get the powder of completely.

The Alpha purred louder than the other's, cuddling against the bird with his tails wagging.

He looked back at the bird in slight confusion as he was mounted, tilting his head in questioning of what it was doing. He slowly leaned down and tried to carve his question into the ground. He wrapped two of his tails around the bird's upper body then trotted forwards to give the bird a better view of the carving.

Alvith Population: 205 - Age of Contact

Happenings in Village of Scalo
Chief Krascalo had watched the growth of his village as symbol of strength of rule. Standing by the side of the Chief was his son Caalo who was being raised to rule. Having grabbed the power to rule by being the strongest when Scalo Kriivith died, Krascalo Vith was determined to have his son lead after him. To ensure this Krascalo would do his best to train Caalo for greatness every chance he had. Everything that Krascalo knew of strength and how to fight he would pass on to Caalo.
During one night alone Krascalo would ponder why could he not rule over both villages? He had every right too, he was strong and his village had grown strong. The thought of ruling over both villages was very appealing to the power hungry Krascalo. In secret Krascalo would share ambitions to rule all of the Alvith.

"I Chief, I strong. Deserve to rule." Krascalo spoke to Caalo.
"Yes, I Caalo son of chief. Strong!" Caalo spoke nodding to his father.
"One day, both villages I rule. Strongest shall rule, Caalo I Chief and blood flows. Destined to rule." Krascalo spoke while looking up at night sky.

The following day after Chief Krascalo Vith had spoken about his ambitions in private with his sun the eclipse happened. Many in the village would look up in amazement at this rare occurrence. However Chief Krascalo looked upon the eclipse with dread. Thoughts of wanting to rule over all Alvith were still on mind of Chief Krascalo and he took the eclipse as the great serpent looking down upon him with furious anger. Why the Chief stayed in his hut wasn't questioned by villagers as they preformed a offering of a Ogurk in honor of the Great Serpent.
The task of affixing the stone tool head was proving to be of some difficulty to Raclo. First idea had been simply to try smacking the wood handle against stone tool head but that wasn't working. No matter what Raclo attempted the tool head would not stay on. While frustrated with lack of success Raclo had a idea hit him. Watching a small spider like creature wrap its prey up would inspire Raclo what if he wrapped the stone tool head onto handle. Now though came the issue of what would Raclo use.

Happenings in Village of Rielo
When the eclipse happened it went quiet inside village of Rielo. Walking out from a hut was one of the village elders who used a spear as a cane. Those outside would look to the elder wondering what he would say. Walking up onto center flat stone in middle of the village the Elder looked seeing those who had gathered.

"Great Serpent!" The elder pointed up towards the eclipse.
"Eyes of Great Serpent watch together! Great honor! Nothing fear, great time!" The elder would lower his arm leaning on spear more.

The villagers would cheer at Elders words and begin to celebrate the eclipse. Some in village tried shows of strength with ritual combat to give Great Serpent something to watch while others feasted on stored food to celebrate life. The Elder who walked with spear as a cane moved off the center flat stone in village as a bonfire was built to burn the bodies of elders who had passed. Going off into his hut the Elder with cane got a bit Ogurk hide and blood. Using the blood on hide the Elder would smear the blood to make a symbol then walked out from his hut.

"To honor Great Serpent! Village carry image of two eyes!" spoke the Elder who motioned for Vonle to lift the hide up.

Later that day outside the village of Rielo to north Kaalo had gathered several other members of tribe to help with trying to figure out how to use these bricks he had developed to construct a home out of. It only had taken a few hours for Kaalo to explain how he made the sun dried clay mud bricks and work began trying to make a hut. Flattening ground down then stacking the bricks seemed to work until the bricks stacked so high they toppled over.

Isáwa

Population: 125

Tónda Méšra (Good omen)

Several days had passed since the Beida Kowán. The expedition parties had been formed, and supplies were being gathered for the departure.

In her hut, lit by a warm hearth, Sôwán was conversing with Muwáya, who was considered by all to be the closest to Šewár. «My friend», she said, «have you foreseen what awaits us? Is it disaster or good luck? Will our friends and lovers die in faraway, hostile places, or will they find lands of plenty?»

«The gods have so far given us no omens. The water has kept flowing, the stars gone on shining, the wind blown as always.» answered Muwáya. «And as you know, omens are but a question Šewár asks us. What they mean is our answer to this question.»

«How very true. But whatever is the case, we can be certain nothing will be the same for us. Not since the families went on to found the nine settlements has something so important happened to the Isáwa.»

«Perhaps it is time for us to walk out of the cradle.»

«But what if in so doing we stumble down? What if our friends do not return? We would then have no choice but to abandon the settlements and return to Eláda (Home) the gentle, or leave for good. I have to tell you I cannot trust Óngi (water) and Lekému (sky) anymore, nor can I Bîma or Ífo. They have been too cruel to our people.»

«Šewár has her reasons.» consoled Muwáya, rather unconvincingly.

Sôwán seemed pained and angry. «Why must we suffer? You who have an answer to everything, do you have an answer to this? Tumák was the kindest of us all ; I had never seen her angry or mean. What purpose was there in her taking away? Had she caused any wrong, unbeknownst to us all? Even if that were the case, are the Gods not merciful? Is it a lie we repeat every morning? Why did she have to go? Why did anyone have to go? It's not fair. It's not.» She looked around her, melancholy. There was no point in hurting Muwáya, she thought, there was nothing she could do to change this.

«Sôwán,» began the shaman of sorts, «what Onúma the generous (giver of life, creator) gives to us, in time we must return to Bahéra the silent one. We can not hold on forever to those we love ; we can't hold back the water ; it has to flow for life to resume. Now Tumák is returned to Šewár. Soon she will be returned among us. Maybe you will witness her return ; is Jitámba not about to bring forth life? Maybe she will return as a fish in the water, or a shadow-in-the-night (nocturnal avian). Who knows? I am sure she will be rewarded.»

Sôwán, somewhat appeased, was about to answer when Koyéma, her youngest child, stormed inside.

«I told you not to disturb me, Kôwai!»

«Come see outside! It's dark!» was the only thing she replied.

Walking out, Sôwán and Muwáya saw the most incredible thing : Ánde the shimmering (moon) was moving towards Ráma the powerful (sun) in the midst of the day. Ánde, located right between the cliffs of the valley, was rising ever so quietly towards Ráma, then nearly at the zenith. The whole population was assembled in silence, stunned and awed by the event. Children were running around, fearful, but their parents, many of which had already witnessed the joining of the friends (name for an eclipse) at least once in their life, caught them under their arms and explained to them what was happening.

Sôwán, herself, whispered in her child's ears, «Calm down, this is nothing to be afraid of. Ánde will rise until she meets Ráma, and for a time it will be night. But it will pass, and then day will return. Promise me not to look at Ráma during the short night : she might blind you if you do.»

Koyéma hid herself behind her parent, shaking a bit, but moved by curiosity, she soon asked : «Why is Ánde doing that? Why is she coming back?».

Sôwán smiled tenderly, held her tightly in her arms, and told her : «Kôwai, this is what we call the joining of the friends. You know that Ánde and Ráma are friends, don't you ?»

«Yes. Muwáya told us.»

«Well, do you know why ?»

«She said...Umh, they... I don't remember.»

Her parent laughed a little. «In the times before time, Ráma and Ánde were the only beings in the sky. They roamed aimlessly, not knowing of each other's existence. In so doing, they lit each part of the world one after another, and so life thrived. But being so lonely, they were terribly sad. This went on until one day, Ráma caught a glimpse of Ánde's back. She didn't know what she was, so she called her from afar. Ánde, hearing a faint voice in the distance, looked around her, and after Ráma called her again, louder, she turned around. Both then got progressively closer to each other, until they could see each other's face. They spoke a bit, trying to understand who the other was ; how could they have know, since they had always been alone? Soon enough, they realized they weren't so different ; Ráma shone brighter, but Ánde was more delicate. They became inseparable friends. They had no need to wander anymore ; they had found a friend, a purpose, someone with whom they could share everything. Unfortunately, this disturbed the world below. The land beneath them was overrun by ice and snow, and darkness. Remember how it feels when the snow falls, at night, on the plateau?»

«Oh yes. I don't like that. It's cold, and dark, and windy. I really don't like that.»

«That's how it was almost everywhere. Clearly this couldn't go on, could it?»

«No!»

«And so the gods were compelled to act. They sent Emát, who keeps the balance : as hard as it was for Ráma and Ánde, they had to part ways ; otherwise the Earth would die. And so they did. To keep them company, Onúma created the stars, with whom they could converse during their voyage in the sky. Furthermore, once every few years, they were allowed to meet again ; today they have been allowed to rejoin.»

The child nodded, pensive.

Around that moment, Ànde touched Ráma. The sky began to darken. Soon, only a fiery halo was left of the sun, shining in the obscurity. Turning to Muwáya, Sôwán spoke a few words. «Here is our omen, isn't it?»

Muwáya did not say anything. She simply put her hand on the Kanúm's shoulder.

«If Šewár is asking us a question, I choose to answer : yes, our friends will return.»

The Night-Walkers, Population 48 (23 in Khlin, 15 in Imlona, 10 in Kaaba)

Age of the Awoken Darkness, The Deadened Flame

Techs: Trapping (3/3) DONE
Stone Tools (the idea came from Haixun's visit to the Society) (1/5)

Kaaba

The village of Kaaba was quiet, with many of the workers sleeping. Kiebal, on the other hand, had an experiment to play out before she would get any rest. Her prior experiment with traps had been somewhat successful, but this could protect the Walkers who would work on the ground, along with the benefits that would come with food without the need of a guard to finish the beast off. This trap had taken many hours to construct, consisting of a bowstring hidden at foot level in a small area connected to several arrows held by individual strings. If anything breaks the string at foot level, the strings holding the arrows will be released, firing a volley at the creature. Waiting and waiting, Kiebal began to doze off until around the time when the flame was highest in the sky. At that time, she saw two small figures climbing the Heart-Tree. Upon closer inspection, she was startled to find that those two figures were Estrella and Lunas. Kiebal jumped from her position of watching and climbed to the young Walkers as fast as she could.

Upon chasing down the twins, Kiebal began trying to ask what they thought they were doing, climbing at this hour. She stopped talking when they turned. Their eyes were fierce, seeming to glow with total blackness, consuming the light around them. Lunas stood up and spoke, "This is a day of life and death. The spirits are with us this day, for the end of a cycle..." Kiebal was frozen to the spot, the two pairs of intense eyes seemed to see into her very soul. The end of a cycle, Lunas had said. After a a few moment, Estrella added, "The end of one cycle, the beginning of a new one. We were born into a race that had hidden itself from the world, we shall no longer sit and hide."

Awestruck by the intensity and seriousness of these two Walkers, she was silent for a time. A small cracking sound was heard on the ground, followed by the screech of a beast, shot by Kiebal's trap. The rest of the village began to wake after the animal's yell. Trying to get an idea of what was happening, they saw Kiebal and the twins staring into the sky. There were some murmurs of confusion. What could they possibly be doing up there when the sky is lit by the Flame. Travelling up the Heart-Tree, they saw something was wrong. There was no light protruding from the few breaks in the leaves. They had found the sky black, the flame consumed with waters of darkness. The twins rose above the village, commanding an uncommon level of respect, especially being barely more than children in age. They told the tribe that the holy moon had given a sign. The Walkers shall rise, and need not hide from the world ever again. "The moon has consumed the flame," Estrella had said, "So we will defeat any foe that stands against us." During Estrella's speech, Lunas took an arrowhead and carved an image of the eclipse onto the Heart-Tree. "We are the moon, we are the darkness, and we are the Walkers of the Night! This will be our symbol forevermore. In Haixun's journeys and beyond, may none be so foolish as to cross us."

These two Night Walkers were no longer children in the village, this speech had shown all who held their doubts of the twins' divinity of the truth behind these claims. After the flame and moon separated to begin the cycle of day and night once more, the dead creature's carcass was carried off and butchered for a feast that would commence that evening. The seriousness that came over the twins seemed to die down after the speech, and they seemed to become rather playful as the village went back to rest. That night, as the feast began, Kiebal stared at the two exceptional children, trapped in her thoughts. "The moon has very peculiar children," she thought to herself.

The village spent the night celebrating the events of the day, with the "Holy Twins" socializing with the other villagers. It would not be long before the other villages would hear of the twins' speech, and of the symbol that was carved into the Heart-Tree. During all of this, Haixun and his scouts have been finishing their travel home to Khlin, carrying the Society's "Hims".

Time: Era of Black and White (no precise timekeeping system developed)

Information

In the Past - Era Transitions - Moving to the Modern River

Many many years ago, there was the prior Era of Gray. It had ended similarly with the darkness covering the ground from astronomical events. The Platta in these times lived simpler lives, but it was not without incident. The mediator of all (gray) in this time was more active in the lives of every child around making sure the knowledge of the past was well communicated. The symbolism gathered from the eclipse made the Platta know it was time to prepare for painful times. As the mediator of all had phrased it then, similar to now, there was a time of extremes approaching. In the coming years, there would be a drought. The land grew drier, and water became scarcer.

In an attempt to resolve this, the Platta temporarily became nomadic once again to seek a more steady source of water. After a year or so of traveling, the present's spot near the river was found. Fish was more plentiful here, and so it seemed like a nice place. Although some Platta had died on the journey, and grief was lingering, this place showed hope. The first fish caught was examined in the grass near for its symbolism. From the Era of Gray to the Era of Black and White, this fish had shown the new era was to be of Green, a time of great life.

It would be more years before other colors had their era, including red for addressing new threats, yellow when some trees were slowly cut to make predators less common, purple to work with the procedures of organizing the wood, and blue for the study of the land around as safety had shown itself. Once these had completed, a new Era of Gray had begun. Not much time later arrives to where the Platta first showed themselves here. Of course, this is a summary.

Era of Desuro (calendar not developed)

Quickly running along the groung in search of prey that had just gotten away from their grasp, a teskur in particular, they had tagged it with about three arrows before it had run off. A group of hunter, five ohmuru men no less, running after the blood trail that had beg ngoing up the nearby mountain side. The trees were coming in less of a concentration and so they knew that they had to hurry up and get the kill before they had to wait and adapt to the mountainour terrain. The group had sight of the beast once more and it was moving fairly quickly. With two arrows set loose, the arrows hit their target, making the teskur collapse, no longer having the use of its legs. One hunter moved forward and put a spear through the beast's neck, finishing it.

With the kill done, the group picked up the beast and brought it back to where the tribe was settled at, they were just below the trees that contained the entry point. They had to take off the limbs in order to bring the beast up and it was still hard getting the main body of the animal up, though it was done.

"A fine hunt, this will do nicely for the night," a deep, raspy voice stated, Desuro the Ohmuru chieftan, his attite was a necklace of small skulls with fur around his body. "My chieftan, we are thankful for your praise," a hunter said as the group took a bow to their leader. "It was mearly a compliment, go about your duties now," Desuro said before turning and going back into his personal tree hut. That was where his youngest son at the age of 15 days sat in the arms of the cheiftan's wife. It was rare for a chieftan to have one wife but no one really seemed to mind all that much. It was time to rest for the chieftan, he easily grew tired of overlooking the entire tribe but he had faith that his first son's, being 17 years of age, leadership would prove worthy for the tribe.

The Herenthor, Population:148

Trefsth

“Nope, you tie the leash this way,” explained Hmph to a young Herenthor, who just couldn’t seem to keep control of his Ferf. He chuckled to himself, this boy was just like him when he was his age. “Now, Frimp take the the” Hmph stopped short, he heard grunting outside. “That’s odd,” he thought, but then he continued, taking the leather thong and wrapping it around the animal slowly, to show the child. He stopped again, “Can you hear that?” he asked the boy. He was inside what the Herenthor called of Hroff, a place of worship. He couldn’t think of anything that would make sense to be so near that would make that noise, only a…

“A wild ferp has been let in the door!”m a voiced screamed.

Suddenly screaming and shouting filled the room as what looked like a giant armadillo bug with bull horns crashed through the room. Hmph watched in horror as it impaled and trample people who couldn’t get away fast enough. If it wasn’t for the fear that had frozen him, he may have noticed the loud crack that preceded roof of the Hroff collapsing.

---

“Amazing!” Tref exclaimed with joy as he watched three woman make bowls out of mud. One of them showed him a finished project, that could actually hold water!

Not to be outdone, one husband showed Tref his progress with metal. He was able to mix two rocks to make a plate that was stronger than a plate of either material alone. “I call it Frith,” he said, tapping the bronze plate. “It's still a work in progress, I can’t make it strong enough to carry wait or have a practical purpose, yet.”

“I can’t believe my ears!” he shouted, his happiness bubbling over. Suddenly, Tref’s assistant tapped him on the shoulder.

Panting, he relayed his message, “Disaster at the Hroff… the roof collapsed” he spewed out, then he began again once he had caught his breath, “Many of them have terrible wounds and they need help.”

“Go find the healer Maefry, and take her to the victims” Tref replied, horrified, his mind reeling into action.

---

It felt like a dream to Tref as he surveyed the destruction. There were some Herenthor frantically digging through the rubble, searching for loved ones. Others were a bloody mess. Tref could barely hold it together as he saw a mother crying over her dead child. He sat down for a second to take it all in. then he noticed something, a large grey form was sticking out of the rubble. He thought for a second before realizing it was a huge male phamp. His vision was a blur as he ran over to. and then across, the wreckage.

“Something isn’t right here,” Tref breathed as he searched the area. The nearest herd of phamp should have been ten miles from here. What was a large male doing so inside Trefsth. As he paced around the rubble, he noticed something. There were strange gashes in the the mud roof. After a quick impulse, he brought his claws down on a stone, leaving a similar mark. It all came became clear then, the Hroff had been sabotaged. The animal must have been forced into the building while the attackers dismantled the roof. It was when he realized this that Trefth let the first tear go.

Alvith Population: 205 - Age of Contact

Happenings in Village of Scalo
The eclipse had passed and Caalo noticed a change in his father Chief Krascalo Vith. The older Alvith had lost the drive to rule over all Alvith and this would not do. Caalo had been groomed to one day lead and viewed as his father's inaction as weakness. However Caalo knew he was not the strongest in village and getting on track towards his destiny to rule would require manipulating others. One night Caalo would visit his father Chief Krascalo in secret.

"Great Chief Krascalo who blood flow in me. Must grow stronger, one village too few." Caalo spoke.
"No, Foolish... Great Serpent anger for ambition." Chief Krascalo spoke shaking his head.
"No! Great Chief strive for strength! Strength please Great Serpent! Must grow villages!" Caalo shouted out.
"Fool! How strength grow?" Chief Krascalo spoke gesturing at the night sky.
"Spread... I blood of great Chief flows. I Caalo found own village. Become Chief Caalo." Caalo spoke gesturing with hands in direction of river that divided the territory of current Alvith villages.
"Take from village, grow weaker. Why think I Chief Krascalo let this?" Chief Krascalo spoke.
"No... grow stronger! Two villages but Great.. High Chief rule both! High Chief Krascalo!" Caalo Spoke with a grin.
"Rule two villages... much discuss blood of mine." Chief Krascalo spoke then motioned to come sit down to discuss things.

The cunning Caalo would explain his idea of organizing villages under a High Chief. Each village would have its own chief known as a Low Chief who would rule village while above them was the High Chief. Naturally Krascalo Vith would be the first of the High Chiefs and rule the unified villages. Caalo would be responsible for founding a village closer to river that would grow mighty like Scalo Village. The second of Scalo Village would become Low Chief of the village, a Alvith female named Maule. A gathering in center of Scalo Village was organized to announce this.

"Greatness! We shall grow stronger! Blood of I Chief Krascalo shall found new village!" Chief Krascalo spoke to applause of the villagers.
"I Chief Krascalo become High Chief! Rule both! With unity grow strength. Caalo blood of blood, Low Chief of Caalo Village. Maule low chief of Scalo village!" Chief Krascalo spoke again to applause and muttering from some. With announcement out of way explaining it to rest of village would be handled by Caalo.

While village celebrated future of growing strength was a small gathering outside village by family of Raclo. It was a great time as Maule wife of Raclo would become a chief to village. Raule would take her mother's old position herding the Ogurk. It was a joyous time for family as in time Raule or her brother Mauco might one day take over as Chief. Raclo expressed his plans to retire and focus his energy on forging tools of stone. The new one in charge of bringing village chief food would be Mauco who was trained to be a butcher by his father.

Happenings in Village of Rielo
Word of happening in Village of Scalo had spread to Village of Rielo. Chief Rielo Kriivith was unsure what Krascalo was up to but did not think any trouble with come of this. The eclipse had passed and symbol of twin eyes of great serpent adorned the huts in village. The coming times looked to be ones of prosperity to Chief Rielo Kriivith.

Work on using the sun dried clay mud bricks to construct a hut was going poorly. Kaalo though observed the current huts and decided they would make the bone frame of a hut then attempt to stack the bricks up. The idea had come to Kaalo when he thought how without bones to keep hides up the huts would collapse similar to how bricks have been when stacked too high.

___________________________________________________________________________

The Ashen clans hunted, picked their fruits, fished and built more and more advanced den clusters to house their increasing numbers. Others were investigating what could be removed from a body before killing it, others created patterns, nets, pouches and belts to hold food or catch it for the other clans in return for a small part of the spoils from them, the Pure Tongue clan focused on a way to unite the clans into one larger pack. Two of the more influential hounds argued about the terms of how such would be done.

“This is heresy! The other clans would never agree upon standing together if we demand that we lead and that every clan sends us half of their food storage when everyone has eaten per day! Have you all lost your minds!?” Reignolf barked out in fury, halfway to lashing out at the other hound.

Hesbjorn shook his head slowly at the anger. “They will agree to our terms, or taste the claws of ou-...” Everything fell into silence as darkness fell over the rainforest. The hounds looked up at the sky and through the thick foliage above saw the sun fade into complete darkness.

The Pure Tongue clan called to a meeting and unanimously agreed that now was the time to call the clans together, the Ancestors had given the sign.

Their high pitched howls echoed throughout the rainforest, catching the attention of the other clans whom were just as busy arguing about what this was a sign of, all from the Ancestors being displeased, to a sign of a good coming harvest, war or a warning of future events.

(Hours later)

The Alphas of each clan met in a circle at the center of the den cluster, staring each other down. The Pure Tongue Alpha stepped forward and spoke.

“With the glowing eye in the sky darkening, the Pure Tongue has decided that now is the time for us to put our differences as clans aside and join together as one united pack. We would live on as we do now, but follow under one Alpha, the other Alphas acting as their voice within their clan, but now being known as Betas. The leading Alpha would have the last word in all things.”

He took a pause and looked upon the other Alphas standing around him, some nodding in approval while others looked disgusted by the idea.

“To settle the leader of the pack, there is only one way that would follow our laws… A fight to the death, the last Alpha standing leads the pack. Before the fight for leadership, each Alpha shall pick out someone that will lead their clan would they fall.”

The Alphas looked at each other and after a long argument over the terms, it was agreed upon.

After a long and bloody battle between the Alpha’s only the Howling Hounds Alpha was still standing, his fur soaked in blood and an open wound over his chest, which the Broken Fang hounds quickly ran over to inspect and clean out from fragments of the guilty one’s claws, while the others dragged the dead ones to the side, burying them with a seed from the massive trees that were native in the region, their spirits would live on in the tree.

The Howling Hound Alpha howled to honor the fallen ones, the surrounding hounds joined in and in the distance the clans could be heard as they united, all of the clans for the first time united as one.

The Settlement:

"I am a law only for my kind, I am no law for all. You are a law only for your kind, you are no law for all."
"This what you shall tell them. This is our first hymn. This is what we are." Spoke Mr. Marsh upon his bloodied steeple to the devout missionaries.
"Confirmed, teacher of the ancient rites." The Missionaries spoke in united response.
"You shall go east, you shall go west. Where ye find creatures, daemons, or otherwise you find communion. Teach them the written language of the hymns, and thus the world beyond them. Blessed are ye who taketh this forth, and drive out the ignorance of men. Blessed are ye who see not foreigners, but other accidents of chaos. Blessed are ye who understands the eclipse, not as a sign of the Gods, but a mere spectacle of Tzeentch. Blessed are ye who transcend the boundaries of good and evil."
And so the missionaries left the Settlement. One to the East where a grey wolf sings @Raindeer, and one to the west where the dark is forever.@Father Dagon
