Legends Among Us (Pokemon RP)

Thirty years passed since Team Rocket, Team Plasma, and a rash of other villainous groups were thwarted throughout the Pokemon world. The world enjoyed a period of remarkable peace and harmony between humans and Pokemon.

Then, the virus appeared.

It started with weak wild Pokemon in Viridian Forest who experienced what seemed to be a bad cold. As the disease spread to trainers' Pokemon and further into the region, the symptoms worsened. By the time anyone realized it could be a serious issue, the relentless virus had spread to other regions and was becoming a pandemic.

Many Pokemon experienced no more than flu-like symptoms. However, some Pokemon, usually those owned by trainers, became very sick and needed to be hospitalized. Though researchers across the regions have never found a cure, they did discover that the disease has the strange quality of affecting Pokemon in proportion to their strength. Thus, the dreaded virus was nicknamed the "Power Plague".

Then, the unthinkable happened. The legendary Pokemon Mew died of the Power Plague. Terrified, the legendary Pokemon of Sinnoh dared to awaken Arceus from his centuries-long slumber, hoping he could stop the virus. Arceus agreed that the legendary Pokemon must be saved, or else the world would be thrown out of balance. Unfortunately, there was no way to end the plague without causing another cataclysmic imbalance.

However, Arceus came up with another, drastic solution. If the legendary Pokemon had human bodies, they couldn't catch the virus. Thus, Arceus chose humans he felt were suited to playing host to legendary Pokemon. He intertwined the spirits of all the legendaries and their host humans. Exhausted by the effort of combining souls, Arceus returned to his deep slumber.

These "avatars" live all around the Pokemon world. They could easily pass for normal humans, but many of them have traits similar to their Pokemon, such as hair, skin and eye color, and body type. They only age one year for every ten years they live. The avatars are much stronger than the average human, but not nearly as strong as the Pokemon they represent. (Their stats are about half those of their Pokemon.)

In addition, avatars possess the moves, ability, and type(s) of their Pokemon. They also have any special abilities... and responsibilities... the Pokemon may have. Some avatars may live whatever life they choose, while others must spend their lives granting wishes, stopping some other avatars from bickering, etc.

Avatars have many different reactions to their new life. Some hide it; some flaunt it. Some resent the legendaries for putting them in this position; some fear their own mighty, untrained powers. Others delight in the chance to use their superhuman powers and long life for good... or evil. Normal humans also have mixed reactions to the avatars, ranging from worshipful adoration to hatred, from terror to apathy.

Some avatars have their own Pokemon. In fact, avatars tend to have particularly close bonds with their Pokemon. They can even telepathically communicate with Pokemon that share at least one type.

Two years have passed since the avatars' story... your story... began. What will happen to the Pokemon world when a new crisis arises? That all depends on the Legends Among Us.

Rules

1. No godmodding (you cannot in any way control another person's character). If you attack another character, you may say where and how you attempted to attack, but the other person decides whether or not the attack hits.

2. Keep romance PG-13. Your characters are allowed to have sex, but please keep it all off-screen.

3. Please don't sign up for this RP unless you're seriously prepared to put some effort into it. I would like people to consistently post AT LEAST once a week, preferably every three days. Even if you're waiting for someone else to post, I would like you to check in out-of-character so we know who's still participating. I plan to give out occasional in-RP "prizes" to people who post consistently. :)

4. Post your character sheet in OOC for approval. Once I approve it, you can copy it to Characters.

I plan to have one main plot and also opportunities for sandbox roleplay if there is enough interest.

Name: Seras Bancroft
Pokemon: Diancie
Gender: Female
Age: 20
Hometown: Verdanturf Town

Level: 30
Ability: Clear Body
Moves: Dazzling Gleam, Rock Throw, Sharpen, Smack Down, Reflect, Stealth Rock

Legendary Powers: Seras can create diamonds by compressing carbon from the air, producing fist-sized gemstones almost instantaneously that can grow layer-by-layer over several seconds until becoming roughly head-sized. While concentrating on her powers, she can create and control roughly a dozen small gemstones or a handful of larger gemstones at once - while distracted or otherwise engaged, she can hold them stationary in the air without allowing them to fall. Seras can also manipulate the shape of her gemstones and fuse them together - although she cannot levitate any creations that are larger than her head, she can fashion bridges, barricades and various sculptures over the course of several minutes.

Held Item: Shell Bell

Appearance: Seras is built daintily, standing roughly 5'6" tall with a thin frame and a soft face perpetually lit by a contented smile. She wears her cherry pink hair down to her waist, occasionally braided for formal situations but usually flowing wild and free. Although she travels with a small range of outfits suitable for weather conditions across Hoenn, she favours loose garments in a range of blues and purples, occasionally matched with jewelry created through her powers.

Personality: Seras is a gentle and nurturing soul, generous with her compassion and easily moved by the happiness of others. She has little patience for monotony or bland routines, preferring to chart new horizons with every footstep and seek the joy of fresh beauty or a stranger's smiling face. Although her confidence has grown immensely since melding with Diancie, her discomfort in face-to-face confrontations has not entirely passed - rather than outright fleeing from stressful situations, she prefers to diffuse situations using firm persuasion or quietly separate herself and those she cherishes from potential sources of conflict. Savoring the feeling of grass under her feet or the warm embrace of a friend, she aspires towards nothing more than savoring the world around her, travelling at her own pace and exploring the pleasure in every moment rather than chasing the future or clinging to the shackles of the past. She tends to communicate with others through meaningful gestures and comforting touch as much as with words - her talent for capturing the world through artwork has led her to create sculptures that capture the raw emotions of their subject as well as any speech.

Backstory: Born as the male-bodied heir to the Bancroft estate, Seras' early years were stained by intolerance and rigid expectations from her family. Between intense coaching on the family's export business, tutoring on proper etiquette and numerous reproachful lectures over her 'insufficient strength of character' from her father, it was made plainly apparent that her family expected her to grow into a cookie-cutter nobleman in order to maintain the family fortunes. Without a means of outwardly expressing her discomfort, Seras turned to the arts - painting, photography and especially sculpture. Although too young to fluently express her discomfort in words, she would purge her stress and anxiety through sculptures of herself as she lived in her dreams - cherub-faced, barefoot and with long, untamed hair billowing in the wind.

After approaching her family when she was 18, Seras was informed in no uncertain terms that gender transition would be impossible - the affront to the family's reputation would be too great for them to indulge the 'baseless whims' of their child, let alone the personal indignity of acknowledging Seras as a daughter after years attempting to iron out any such notions. Arceus begged to differ. As the Power Plague escalated from a 'common' pandemic to a potentially god-slaying disease, Arceus searched for humans capable of partnering with each of the Legendary Pokemon, manipulating both the soul and (to a lesser extent) the physical form of their hosts. And while flowing pink hair and a newly feminine build wouldn't look unusual to most people, Seras' overnight transformation was enough to drive her father into wordless sputtering.

Seras was over the moon.

Despite her family's furious demands that she uphold her duties to their household, Legendary Pokemon or not, Seras swiftly packed her belongings and embarked on a journey across Hoenn, with no destination but the next crossroads and no goal but to escape from her parents and relish her newfound liberation. Her new powers quickly proved invaluable - after several weeks of trading gemstones at village markets, she gradually learned to meld and shape the gemstones she created into glittering figurines, selling awed townsfolk and gleeful children sculptures of their loved ones produced before their very eyes.

As weeks turned to months and months turned to years, her journey grew into a new way of life - travelling to all of the major cities and landmarks of Hoenn, sharing the beauty she witnessed during her travels and earning a reputation across Hoenn as a wandering artist. Although her shameless use of her powers earned occasional glances of scorn or fear, such incidents did little to diminsh the joy she felt from sharing her creations with others - sharing both the beauty in the world which the sculptures reflected and the heart of the woman who sculpted them. Seras had never felt more content and genuine in her life.

@Ardent Dawn Awesome. Nice to see a character who loves being an avatar so much. :) I guess I just assumed people would limit their moves, though. I'll go ahead and allow six moves per Pokemon. You'll still have to take away one from each.

Name: Wells Windforce

Pokemon: Rayquaza

Gender: Male

Age: 25

Hometown: Rustboro City

Level: 30

Ability: Air Lock

Moves: Crunch, Ancient Power, Twister, Scary Face, Air Slash

Legendary powers: Wells can survive extreme altitudes indefinitely, which also lets him hold his breath for nearly an hour if he needed to. He can also survive extremely low temperatures, is highly resistant to simple asphyxiants and ozone, immune to UV light, and has a 3m vertical jump.

Held item: Sitrus Berry

Appearance: Wells is 2m(6'6") tall, has green hair, and is slightly tan. He has green eyes, a small nose, and has a very slim physique. He usually wears a black vest over a green shirt, as well as a chestnut-colored leather bag and black pants.

Personality: Wells loves attention and feeling like he impresses others, as well as them considering him valuable and hepful. Beyond that, he doesn't really want anything more than the chance to live a life of leisure, entertainment and lively debate. Wells always does his best to stay cool and think calmly, even when the world suddenly surprises him, and he always thinks about what could happen in the future. When something absolutely unexpected happens, he often waits for a few seconds and rarely makes a choice based on instinct. On his own, Wells can enjoy spending his time thinking about the future and the greater questions, hoping to invent something interesting worth talking about.

Backstory: Wells lived an ordinary life in Rustboro, never really noticing that he lived in a big city as he always spent time with a small, selective circle of friends near his home. He came from a family who dedicated their lives to being his parent, although he often ended up doing a lot on his own. Wells had a talent for mathematics and language, although he didn't use it for anything other than finishing homework quickly and lounging afterwards. Wells found himself attracted to the trades, as he heard a lot about the places a trade could take him. He decided to become an apprentice for an electrician, and found work at ports, gyms and anywhere else exciting people travelled. After 5 years of work, he was zapped by electricity. Afterwards, he was given a week off work and spent it with his Helioptile, who was suffering from a strange disease.

That same week, he felt a strange force go through him. He discovered that he was very strong, could work far faster and that he seemed to never get tired. Curious, he also learned of his ability to withstand great altitudes, and he decided to begin mountain climbing. After the week had passed, his employer let him go. He learned that Arceus had given him a greater purpose, and Wells' employer knew that his new role was far more important than his old one. Wells decided to enjoy his vacation of sorts, and lived simply as he picked up odd jobs around Hoenn to keep himself busy.

Nickname: Fluke

Species: Helioptile

Gender: Male

Level: 30

Ability: Dry Skin

Moves: Thunder Shock, Charge, Mud Slap, Electrify, Parabolic Charge.

@thebastardbrasta

I added this to the character sheet later, so you might not have seen it, but each avatar or Pokemon can have a maximum of six moves. You'll have to delete one of Wells' moves. Also, Rest, Fly, and Electrify are learned at relatively high levels. I'll let you keep only one as a TM. Sorry for being stingy, I just don't want anyone to be too powerful at the beginning.

Other than that, Wells looks good. Interesting that both OCs so far have career goals other than to be Pokemon trainers.

I didn't think there would be so much focus on game mechanics. I thought that it would be more like the show, where the abilities are more "fluid". Electrify seems like it would give me the best control over the current, so I think a Pokemon with it would be very useful for an electrician.

Name: David Stone

Pokemon: Regirock

Gender: Male

Age: 32

Hometown: Mauville City

Level: 30

Ability: Clear Body

Moves: Stomp, Charge Beam, Bulldoze, Power-up punch

Legendary powers: David is a powerful and resilient individual, his body having properties that make it difficult for him to be cut and made to bleed however this strength has left him more vulnerable to brute force attacks, his body being easily bruised and his bones easily crushed. His body is very responsive to rocks of all kind, often to recover after suffering injuries he will place stones on his wounds that cause him to heal at a much faster rate. Most of his moves come from using the incredible herculean strength his body provides him.

Held item: Leftovers

Appearance:

Personality: David is a cold, and harsh judge of character. His attitude towards people has always been one of pushing those around him to reach their potential. Arrogance, reckless behavior and selfish attributes are the core opponents of his life's philosophy. Since becoming an avatar, his personality has fused with Regirocks, now feeling an immense desire to protect nature and Pokemon. David believes the best way to see the true heart of a person is through battle, and how they fight is far more important that the outcome of the battle. With a rigid code, and the ideology that those who have power, have a responsibility to use it to help others and not for selfish gain.

Backstory:
David started life as an archaeologist at the age of eighteen, interested in researching fossil pokemon and the formation of rock type pokemon. His own Tirtouga that he carries comes from one of his first digs inside a Unova temple. His early twenties where spent travelling, exploring and learning. His skill as a pokemon trainer was low, and for a long time Tirtouga never got to spend much time battling, instead being used as a travelling companion.

The power plague never affected Tirtouga, because the time the duo spent in isolation in deserts the worst of the plague skipped over them. David thought that his life wouldn't be affected by the virus. Until he fell into a ruin. A broken leg, and a lack of equipment he assumed that would be the end of him. To die trapped within a tomb on route 111. To his great surprise, the rocks around him gave him great strength. His broken leg healed within minutes. Arcues had fused his soul with the soul of Regirock and granted him new powers. His life of temple diving and underground mining where behind him. He felt a surge of responsibility.

David spent the next few months testing himself, and his ability to train Pokemon. Him and Tirtouga now shared thoughts, and battling went from a crude and ineffective system to the two having synchronized minds that could analyze and respond to a variety of battling situations. Whilst his prowess as a trainer increased, he also tested his own skill. Learning how his new body worked, unaware for a long that his body was fused with the legendary pokemon. Unsatisfied with living around humans, he moved to a life of living outdoors - finding comfort in caves, not needing warmth or sheets to keep him comfortable. Stone was all he needed.

His reputation grew, escalating to the status of urban myth. Trainers who encountered him where challenged to a pokemon battle, demanding that the person express themselves. The only way he could truly judge somebody was how they treated their pokemon in a battle. The majority of trainers where allowed safe passage that he over-watched after the battle, regardless if they won or lost. For trainers he deemed to be arrogant, ungrateful and poor as trainers, he battled himself. Dreams of a stone golem calling to him, demanding he fight for freedom and justice, to protect the weak.

Everyone is approved! :D

I'm a dumdum and forgot to mention that, if you want any part of your character's personality or backstory to be secret, you can PM me with the secrets for approval rather than put them on the sheet. Since I already approved your characters, you can delete parts you would rather keep secret, at least from potential newcomers.

I love what you all are doing with the legendary powers.

It looks like we're probably going to do this RP in Hoenn, apparently. XD

According to Bulbapedia, Iris is the only gym leader who doesn't have another job. So it's actually rare for people to have the career goal of becoming Pokemon masters.

It certainly makes things pretty convenient for everyone - our hometowns even line up neatly :P

Hoenn's easily my favorite region and I knew that I wanted someone who fitted with the princess theme for Diancie, so the rest of the character grew from that :)

@Zanavy Would it be acceptable for our characters to telepathically communicate with Pokemon that share a common typing with them (i.e. Fairy and/or Rock for Diancie), or would you prefer to keep it strictly identical typings? Since we have two Rock-type avatars and I'm planning to find a Rock-type Pokemon somewhere down the line, it would be interesting if we could communicate with each other's Pokemon. I'm also not really planning to catch a Carbink :P

@EclipseDragon I just realized that Seras can heal you by making diamonds for you! ^_^ Intentional or a happy coincidence?

I was planning to make at least one of my main NPCs from Hoenn, too!

@Ardent DawnI was originally thinking it had to be exact typings, but you have a point. I'll allow communication with any Pokemon that shares one or both typings. Besides, @EclipseDragon kind of misinterpreted that rule already. :P

@EclipseDragon Originally you could only communicate telepathically with Pokemon that had identical typing (i.e. strictly mono-Rock types for Regirock and strictly Rock/Fairy types for Diancie), but that's been changed to any Pokemon with overlapping types :)

Oh, damn. I just assumed that if something was part rock it counted, I guess it makes it easier on all of us if just having one type overlap allows communication.

@Thebastardbrasta Yo, whats the chances that Wells and David could start on bad terms and try to kick the shit out of each other? I'm not saying we should have a winner between the two of us, but having a rivalry to start with could make it more interesting?
