My name is Nicholas Flammel. If you are reading this letter, then two things have happened: I am dead and the Dark Ones are close to being set free from their eternal prison. If the Dark Ones get free, then all you know will cease to exist. I do not have much time so I will explain as best as I can.
The Dark Ones weren't always known as the name they have now. They were once called The Elders and they were many. The Elders were a race of ancient and powerful beings. They once ruled the world long before humans existed. However, before them was an even older race known as The Ones Who Came before or The Ancients. The Ancients and The Elders fought a long and bloodly war to claim the earth. Eventually, 13 Elders that outclassed the rest of their kind known as the Great Elders, rose up and sealed the queen of the Ancients along with her five generals. With that, the Elders claimed the earth and times became peaceful.
However, that peace started to crumble when one of the 13 Great Elders created the first humans. Some Elders were infuriated and wanted to put them down or used as slaves. Even some of the Great Elders felt this way. They saw the potential that they held and were fearful of being overthrown by the humans. Other Elders defended the humans. Eventually war broke out, dividing the Elders amongst each other. The ones who wanted to enslave or destroy the humans were then labeled the Dark Ones. The Elders who fought for humanity sealed away some of the Dark Ones in another dimension. Others fled, bidding in thier own dimension or somewhere in earth. The Elders stepped down, letting the humans pave their own path, giving them a little help along the way.
Now the seal that holds the Dark Ones away from earth is weakening thanks to the ones known as Immortals. Immortals are beings who've had the aura awakened by an Elder, Dark Elder or other means. For example, king Author was a man who awakened his aura by freeing Excalibur which had magical properties. A woman who's name I won't mention awaken her aura by bathing in the fountain of youth. Aura is the life force of every creature. Every aura has a color and no two auras are the same. Everyone has it but if you can awaken it you can do incredible things. From magic and spells to running faster than a bullet. Though, aura can burn fairly quickly, it can also be trained like stamina. If your aura burns out, you die. More accurately, you burst into flames.
The Dark Elders have reached out to some humans, promising them riches, power, immortality and a spot in their new world once the reclaim it. Those humans blindly follow the Dark Elders. They are weakening the seal and looking for a way to break it completely. They must be stopped.
I am an Immortal, awakened by one of the Elders. There are others like me who wise to stop the corrupted Immortals from freeing the Dark Elders. There are very little of use and that is why we need you. You are a part of an long forgetten prophecy. You are a child of legend. You have one of the purest and rarest of auras. Pure darkness. pure Light. Pure Gold. Pure silver.
You along with the other children of legend must find a way to stop the corrupted Immortals and others who wish to free the Dark Ones. You first become Awakened. I have left you a instructions on how to get to an Elder who fights for humanity. He will Awaken you. Be warned. The awakening is a dangerous and wonderful process. Anything could happen. If you aren't strong enough to handle it, you will die.
One last thing...forget all that you know. Myths are real. Creatures, monsters. All of that is real. This is not the only world out there. There are things hidden from human eyes. But once you set foot in this new world, there is no going back. I will not force you to save the world. It is your decision.
The Elders/The Dark Ones
The Elders and Dark Ones are of the same race. No one knows where they came from or how they came to be except a few grand Elders. They are incredibly powerful and most were even worshiped as gods among the humans. Take Mars for example. He wasn't always the roman god of war. Before the romans worshiped him, his name was Kich'theam and he served on the council of Elders.
After the civil war, a few Elders fled earth. Living in a dimension of their creating. Most Elders still live on earth but stay secluded. There are still Dark Ones that roam the earth looking for away to free their siblings that have been sealed away.
Immortals
Immortals are people who have gained immortality. This usually comes from an Elder or Dark One who has awakened them. Though usually after gaining immortality from an Elder or Dark One, that human is bound to them. Elders usually free humans from their servitude but never do the Dark Ones. Some of histories greatest hero's and villians are immortal. Take Hercules or Joan of Arc. Though immortality through Elder/Dark One is most common, it is not the only way. Though there is more than one way to gain immortality, there are less than a few.
Awakening/Aura
Being awakened does not mean you're immortal. It does however, prolongs aging. There are very few ways to become awaked but like becoming immortal, the most common is being awakened through an Elder. Being awakened is a dangerous procces. Many people have died from trying to awaken their aura. However, if you can survive the process then the world will open up to you and you'll be able to do incredible things. For one, am your senses will become super charged. Sight, hearing, touch, smell and taste. Your awareness as well. There are two types of auras.
-Combat aura: this gives one incredible physical attributes such as super speed and strength. Reflexes and durability. You can also use aura to create weapons and armor. You can even cast destructive spells and weild the elements with it.
-Magical aura: this type of aura is for spell casters. They have better control over the elements and more possibilities when it comes to spells and magic. They do get physical boost but its not as great as combat aura. Though their magical prowess for excels combat aura.
Both auras are incredible but remember, most things coast aura and using too much aura can literally kill you.

There are all kinds of beings that become visible once one becomes awakened. Becoming awakened is like unlocking a door to another world. Dragons, vampires, lycons and so much more actually exist. Even creatures that far exceed the human imagination become visible. There are still creatures who walk the earth that are said to be even older than the Ancient ones.

In this world there are many weapons and relics that hold great power.
Technology from the Elders. There are even technology from the Ancient Ones. Some can tear through space and time. Some can dry up the oceans. There are even few that can destroy a star.
