Just got off the phone with my mother..... Apparently my intuition was right and I dodged a *massive* bullet by staying far, far away from that woman. She's been trying to sell me extravagant possessions for years (first it was 'her' truck, then it was 'her' yacht, then it was 'her' house, then it was my dad's company), and/or trying to convince me to move back in. Apparently, the reason for all that was, she's spending my dad into an actual debtor's prison; now the IRS has caught up and now they're talking about divorce so she can shelter alimony payments from the bankruptcy suit. Now she wants me to accept large financial gifts (an $8,000 flute, of all things) and back-date it several years to hide it from the banks.

I believe the word I'm looking for is 'Fuck off.' I've never been more proud of myself for making my own bed. Don't get me wrong I love my parents, but this woman is a fucking idiot sometimes.

You don't have to help them, but you shouldn't open the possibility of making their lives worse from the off chance of them investigating you because of her.

'Helping' in this case would be to do everything I can to make sure the consequences actually land where they should. I haven't sorted out exactly what that means I should do yet, I mean, it's not like there's a blameless party (if anything, my dad's the one who ought to know better, he handles the money and he's been enabling this attitude all along). I've been financially independent for shit about nine years now? Think they bought me two or three plane tickets home for holiday season, but other than that I'm not involved. Fuck if I'm going to mix myself up in all this just to prolong all the mistakes. I need to figure out a better way to help the family.
