OK so the books Hunter and Elite by Mercedes Lackey, young adult fiction and only 2 of 3 books are even published yet. It seems like not many are familiar w the books and they don't seem very popular but personally I quite enjoyed them so first I'd like to know interested parties familiarity? Beyond whatever weaknesses the books have it all struck me as a great foundation for an RP and I would like to know others opinions.

For those that don't know the books and want a brief description Hunter takes place in a dystopian world (I know, a little over-done these days) some 200+ years after a breach between the modern world as we know it and a world populated by creatures from nearly every mythology as well as some straight up nightmares. Naturally most of them just wanted to eat our tasty human manna so the world got broke. A few stable places have been setup since and some tech has advanced over 200+ hard years and some humans control either magic or psionics. But of course the big heroes are the Hunters who have magic and can summon Hounds, othersiders that like working with humans and eating the manna of the big targets they take down as a team.

More details to come if people want this to be a thing.

Fantastic! Questions? Like I said I loved the books even with the series unfinished and even if you've never read a word of it I'm more than happy to fill in the blanks, which I know is about everything at this early point.

And to break my own awkward silence: Hey, Flitter! Wouldn't it be a nice idea to actually just detail things out for everyone instead of sitting there stewing in your own dumb? After all most other people have a complete set of details fleshed out for their prospective RPers before pitching an idea? - hmm, harsh, self, harsh. But you are right as usual. So then, sorry self, sorry everyone, let me stow my embarrassment, collect my thoughts and give you something substantial in the next post.

OK so the info straight out of the books so far: over 200 years ago the world was ravaged by some major disasters, some wars happened and big bombs went off. This culminated in the Diseray, an event that permanently breached our reality and allowed all manner of nightmarish magical/mythical creatures in from the other side. These Othersiders are attracted to the silly amounts of manna in our little human bodies and since we're easy little morsels to catch and eat... anyway over the many years military fought as hard as humanly possible, saved everyone humanly possible and among several smaller and less successful settlements across the world Apex city was gradually built on the east coast of the former united states.

Some humans, most of us having a bit of magic ability now, develop powers and became mages while others were born with psychic powers and became psimons (the 2 powers are not known to mix in humans) Apex also became the strongest of strongholds by inventing magic/tech barriers to protect the city and its cits (citizens) but also the biggest target with all those delectable humans gathered in one spot.

Now none of all that would be much possible were it not for the Hunters. Why so special? Because while a mage or a psi on could handle maybe one othersider at a time quite nicely a Hunter can use magic, conventional (usually cold iron) weapons and summon two to eight Hounds to aid them in taking down whole groups of nasty monsters, even the big ones. Hounds are other siders as well but they choose to work with humans to take down manna rich targets, and no, Hounds are not always canine-like though that is more common than not so far as I know. Hunters have magic circles burnt into the backs of their hands like decorative mandalas with a symbol for each hound when a Hunter 'pops powers' (youngster lingo has gotten worse over the last two centuries.)

Now in Apex it is important to make the Cits feel safe even if they really are not, apex is the big target for the other siders after all. It is also a thing to entertain people and keep them from thinking too much about... stuff, panicked sheep, you know? So in Apex, where most Hunters are needed and are sent when discovered, Hunters are also celebrities each with their own channel televising their hunts. Elite Hunters get only one channel since they are taking on the worst of the monsters and the Mysterious Folk that the city leaders do not even want the citizens knowing about. Oh, and all these Hunts are televised as well beyond Apex city when in fact much of the Hunting is happening just outside or even inside the city's first barrier.

So that is the essential information I believe though I should elaborate further in the near future. But the option to mix familiar conventional weapons, some new tech, army mages, psimons, all manner of creatures from any mythology (no demons or angels so far) and these hunters and their hounds... seemed like solid fun Rap material to me. Also I think dystopian worlds, overused as they may be, are still really fun. I hope you think so, too :3

@FlitterFaux, Sorry for the delay, and, that's cool. What are the status of Angels?

Don't worry, above was not some passive-aggressive dig at you or anyone else, just a convoy w meself for a chuckle.

Thus far in the books both angels and demons, and actually full on dragons of eastern or western origin, are completely nonexistent. My guess is because those are both stupidly powerful and really intelligent and most othersiders in the book needed to be feasably vulnerable to combined weapons fire and magical attacks. Even a Drakken, the non flying/fire breathing stand in for dragons, can be killed by a team of elite Hunters or really major firepower.

I'd be a little reluctant to work in the angels or demons until I knew more when the 3rd book publishes.

Besides, the Folk have center stage right now as the most intelligent magically gifted mysterious masters of whatever the othersiders are actually doing back in their world. Folk are beautiful as well as deadly and have both psychic and crazy magic powers, something humans just can't do. I think the Folk are based off elves but I get the impression they were designed to stand in place of angels, demons, or dragons in terms of smarts and power but still be killable by a number of Hunters.

@FlitterFaux, Ah, all right. Hmm, sorry to say that without Angels or Demons, I may not join.
