How viable is a walking automated cannon?

It's possible. We have the technology.

That reminds me.

Is the official player character limit still one? Just making sure because FlitterFaux brought it up.

I think it's two. You might want to check the first OOC post to be sure, though.

I swear I read two characters were an option after a certain point but now I can't find it... No one has chosen to make two, yet? Hm. While two wasn't in my original plans I did tell myself that if I thought of a good enough char I'd throw it at another team that needed help with its ranks. Of course all that is moot if my idea fizzles during the egg stage.

Jericho Piper.

Lauren Negasi.

I originally thought Piper was a special exception because he was the only "second" character that existed, and there was a lot of talk about his inclusion. I guess this just means I have to read harder in general.

@HereComesTheSnow I meant first-year students rather than Seniors or etc, though I guess Seniors do count (senior lives matter). The Jericho/Lauren example is what I was particularly talking about because both are first-years.

I'm going to be updating the Char tab again after I finish some drawing and etc (and that's gonna take a while). The next update should include some Misc. characters, and also another Senior team (I remembered after Snow brought up Sarina).

I've also been thinking about experimenting with glowing team fonts based on the team leaders' Colors to make the teams more distinct from each other, but I'm still testing the waters for that.

Oh, right. I wanted to ask how capable a dumb A.I. would be. It would need to operate targeting and weapon use independently of its creator as well as a legged rig for mobility and anchoring during combat.

@FlitterFaux That would depend on your definition of "dumb AI."

IMO, all forms of AI would be capable within what they are tasked to do, it's just reliant on the AI's simplicity or complexity. If it's a turret, its primary focus is to shoot things. If it's a turret that moves, it's probably going to focus on just shooting things anyway, but with the addition of movement hardwired into its actions. How it is programmed to act in a battle should be up to you, because not all AIs of the same field would necessarily perform exactly the same, even if there are, say, two different turrets that can move.

@FlitterFaux

You could always ask Gren about it, he's pretty much a walking, automated turret already.

God Eater... beautiful weapon. Honestly it seems like I'm too worried about making something too OP. But then RWBY is all about wildly extraordinary people. So it sounds like I could make a non sentient AI with pretty decent capability. If this char developed the goal of building towards a true artificial intelligence would such a thing be within a student's grasp?

I mean, I'm basically giving Oswald a VS pile bunker and Reinhardt's shield generator for my next upgrade (14 fucking credits, mind you!), so at least a dumb targetting AI is reasonable.

We do have the example of Penny who was, is (is, dammit, is) a fully sentient AI, so the technology does exist. Having the goal would be fine, but advanced AI would probably be out of a student's grasp. That being said, if you can come up with an entirely reasonable reason (aka backstory) you can do or have nearly anything within reason. So if said student was the spawn of a genius engineer who specializes in AI, they might own a robotic companion who was given to them, then voila. Advanced AI. Of course, you would need to carry that to its logical conclusion (perhaps absent dad issues? High IQ? Desire or no desire to follow in their footsteps, ect) and that would affect numerous other aspects of a character.

The point I'm trying to make here is you have nearly infinite capacity for crativity here, or in any form of text-based story. Your mind and a few arbitrary rules are your only limits to what you can do. If you want something, think about what situation would make sense for the character to have whatever it is, then design your character around that concept, keeping everything logical. Then worry about balancing them.

Best feedback ever guys, thanks much! Char is not a super genius nor from that background but she is genius enough to build something like the weaker AI and the impressive tech built around it. So no advanced AI but she can still dream.

Credits? What's that about?

Something to procrastinate on.

In all seriousness, there is some info somewhere about it, but I can't find it for the life of me.

Edit: This is useful

Edit2: So is this

Edit3 Holy shit, I had no idea what half of the stuff on that doc is for.

@FlitterFaux Credits is a "currency" you can earn through completing missions given to your team in IC (right now it's family day so no missions atm) or participating in Heroes of Beacon Contests and placing high enough for a contest- and very occasionally, the contest gives you free credits for participating. In the first page of the OOC, there's a Conference Doc that has info on what kinds of upgrades or things you could get with credits.

Another form of currency is Lien, but that reflects more on your character's wealth than anything.

EDIT: snow tl;dr'd this long-ass post below

Lien is a character's money.

Credits are a player's money.
