Bought it for a friend last x-mas. He loved Doom Eternal. (I think its a pretty safe bet, if you have *any interest* in the genre whatsoever.)

One thing I wanted: D&D Dark Alliance to be good.

First review I see: Not that. *darth vader no*

Also, both GOG's and Humble Bundle's UI got worse. (Or at least, I liked them better the way they were before.)

Anyone here play Pokemon Go still, even if rarely? I was asking around to see if anyone wanted to add each other to their friends' list.

Been playing the sh*t out of Grim Dawn for the past few days. (ARPG, akin to Diablo 2.) Got it for me and a friend of mine, while it was only 6 bucks on Steam. Recommended to anyone who likes these kind of games.

My only 'git gud' gripe, is that every time I've died thus far (which in fairness is only like 9 or so times) never felt like it was my fault, or like it could've been avoidable through better play. No, it's 'super deadly environmental effect' or 'a move of some kind' just one-shotted you. Usually when you're seconds away from killing whatever killed you first.

I've been playing Monster Hunter Stories 2. I loved the first game a ton, and I had fun with the demo for the second one so I picked it up naturally.

The gameplay is fun. Everything looks and sounds good. I'm still early on but my main gripe with it is every character constantly bringing up the player's grandfather. "Man he was the best at everything," "wow everyone loved him," "you know this reminds me of the time me and your grandpa did this exact same thing" - cue cutscene of my grandpa doing the same shit I literally just did in game. It's getting very tiring very fast, but at least running around having fun playing is nice. I have hopes for the story focusing less on my damn grandpa as I get further into it.

At least young grandpa in cutscenes looks cute as hell since they gave the model the same face features you give your own character

Pokemon Unite is surprisingly entertaining for what it is. Though its P2W elements are already pretty outrageous. (And I know they're not bound to improve with time.)

Mhm; I've heard good things about Unite despite everyone's fears. But nonetheless the game was made by Tencent, so I'm still in the middle ground of whether or not I want to try Unite whenever it eventually comes to mobile in September.

Well I'm all for gaming with a conscience. (Won't touch another Blizzard/Activision title myself. Regardless of quality.) But, if you do end up supporting the devil on your shoulder, as it were, at least you can play it without paying for it.

Hell, if you give it a few months, you'll get to see if its another game that dies or takes a turn for the worse quickly. Then maybe you'll be glad that you held off on it. (I've seen people expect the game to be dropped within a year's time, as a quick cash grab that doesn't get continued development.) But time will tell.

Hopefully they'll be more/better games worth playing in the future.

Fortunately their quality has been going off a cliff even BEFORE this lawsuit!

True enough.

Also I saw you mention that you were in the hospital recently? Glad to see you recovered, and hope you're doing better now.

I haven't had much free time to play games. But I got the Switch port of "Baulders Gate: Dark Alliance" on sale. (Because it was still a bit high priced for what it is. Though its Co-Op, and I know that'll be fun to play again.)

Yakuza: Like A Dragon has more effort put into its dumb go-kart minigame than some open world games put into their entire bloat design.

About 10 hours into Monster Hunter: WORLD so far and it's been a really fun experience. Enjoying just rummaging around and smacking the hell out of giant monsters, though I am a bit pissed that one of my trap/tranq bomb combos ended up not working and I failed a capture due to lack of supplies afterwards. More my own fault for not being prepared, or I might've just straight up missed my bombs somehow, lmao.

Overall it's super pretty game, and comfy to just stare at sometimes. Definitely interested in looking at future titles, maybe Rise if I decide to ever actually use my switch.

Definitely interested in looking at future titles, maybe Rise if I decide to ever actually use my switch.

As someone who quite enjoyed the experience of World (on PS4), for its "living breathing world" feeling of atmosphere.

I will say that Rise feels incredibly shallow and "video-gamey" by comparison. (In that the level design and monster AI are quite shit, to be frank.) But if you do happen to play and like Rise, for its endless content of combat without context. (Then you may very well like the rest of the series too. Since the game reminded me of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate on the DS.) Though I guess the expanded character customization is nice.

Plus something that I can't comment on. (Since I didn't play long enough to find out.) Most seem to claim that the single player campaign is quite short, and that the endgame content is lacking. If that's something you care about, at all.

So have you ever just stopped playing a game at the final boss? Because instead of a challenge, it feels more like a miserable waste of your time? (No, just me?)

Well my last one before yesterday was "Jotun", where the final boss just runs around the arena and RNG summons all the other bosses you already fought at the same time. And patience for trial and error gameplay, was not a skill I had that day...

I got the Switch port of "Baulders Gate: Dark Alliance" on sale. (Because I know that'll be fun to play again.)

Yeah...

Well I remember beating the game so long ago with the dwarf warrior. (One of three classes. And frankly the least well-rounded of the bunch.) But I decided to play the mage this time, and forgot that the last boss is straight up immune to magic. And unlike the prior magic-resistant bosses, she can insta-kill me in one hit, seconds after the battle starts.

So my encounters go something like this; I load up from the nearest save point and go upstairs where the boss is. Then I watch a slow unskippable animation of evil sword lady putting down her arms and helmet. Then I waste even more time with either 5 or 30 dialogue bubbles, depending on if I tell the boss to shut the fuck up or not. Then I watch another slow unskippable animation of evil sword lady putting it back on. Then the fight happens, where she throws an undodgeable heat-seeking sword at me and I die.

I can use the barely-functioning block button, to cut that down the damage to around half health instead. But she never *stops* throwing the weapon. So endless potions and blocks only get you so far. Rinse, and repeat.

So, to add on to my frustration, let me explain just how screwed I am. You see, there is no shopkeeper at the end game. And there is no way to go back to the previous levels. The mage's "carry weight" means you basically cannot wear good armor. Or use the best/two-handed weapons either. (Platemail, the best generic armor, is almost 1/2 of the mage's carry weight.) You cannot respec skill points. The actual "challenge" of the boss is suppose to be how you shouldn't stay near her too long, because she's "A mastah at cLoSe cOmBat". Meaning, the ranger class/bow weapon is the intended only viable option. (I have no bow. I have no carry weight to use that bow. And arrows weigh a lot more than they have any right to.) And the cherry on top, is that a Switch version glitch, turns your dropped loot invisible every time you load up. So, I can't reasonably *find* whatever shit bow might've been dropped by monsters at the end dungeon.

So uh...yep. Those were hours well spent. Moving on to the next game!

Here's a question, mostly because I'd like to find some like-minded folk- does anyone still shiny hunt in the Pokemon games? It's a hobby I really enjoy, and have been doing it for the past 7 years give or take a few months. I got super into it during the X/Y era and used to be a really nice competitive breeder/battler, and so I'd spend much of my time breeding for shiny 'mons. 😂 I've long since retired from battling, but I still do enjoy the hunt! Currently going for a living shiny dex, which is a feat in itself.

I don't hunt much in the Switch titles, and as I never got into Sun/Moon and the Ultra versions, I still hunt in ORAS and X/Y mainly, but I did recently get into romhacks on top of that- I got an R4 card specifically so I could play romhacks on actual hardware, so I've also been hunting in Renegade Platinum.

This is probably just mindless ramble, but I'd really like to find someone into the hobby. Call me hopeless. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I do, though rarely.

I prefer to shiny hunt in Go over the main series, however, since the shiny percentage/rate is waaaay lower than that in the games. It's like 1 in 500 vs. 1 in 4096. Plus, whenever there's a community day, you can get a ton of shinies as your chance of finding one goes down to--I think--1 in 25. Just from the recent Eevee community day I have a shiny of every Eeveelution + an Eevee and an extra Vaporeon.

@Luft

I never got into Go- I don't live in an area I'd feel safe roaming around so I just never bothered with it. That and I just never caught the appeal of it. Sounds good on paper, but in reality, it's probably a bad idea for me, lmfao. Does seem like it'd be fun though! Maybe with a group of friends or whatever.

I have spent the last three days Dexnaving for a shiny Shellos, with absolutely no luck. I have the shiny charm and over 1,000 encounters, but the little sluggo refuses to freaking sparkle. Sigh.
