Brovo said There are no medical benefits to having a baby developing in the womb. It consumes resources, makes the host more vulnerable to diseases, and can potentially result in the death of the host upon its escape.

I was about to respond to this, but then this happened.

Brovo said you wish to abort fully developed adults who are incapable of standing on their own financially, but you are against a woman having the right to to abort a parasitic entity in a world where we have so many orphan children or single parent children that we are actually in a crisis concerning what to do with them...

and I just started laughing out loud.

Tell you what.

2. Keep your conflicts private

Nobody wants to hear you squabbling with others. In fact, chances are you're only squabbling with others because you have an audience. And let's face it: You're probably not squabbling about anything that's not pathetic, so I don't want the rest of the community having to feel sorry for you. That consumes a lot of energy and I don't want a community of exhausted zombies because they spend all their time listening to pathetic e-fights.

We all come here for social interaction. Conflicts are part of social interaction. We aren't Neopets. Nor do I try to pretend like conflicts don't happen. Just have them in private messages.

However, if someone isn't leaving you alone, DO contact a Moderator. We do draw the line between conflicts and serious personal attacks. If you're attacking someone privately, you're also breaking Rule #1 because you're not being cool.

*slow clap*

What a brilliant fucking ad hominem we have here. Instead of actually posing a viable counter-argument, you decide the best course of action would be to simply post a snarky remark taking a direct jab at the person who disagrees with you. Then again, I suppose you don't have many legs to stand on in this argument, so actually responding in an appropriate manner would be "too hard".

Well, I should've seen how this was going to come up in the Modern Feminism thread. So, I decided I'd make a nice little place for people to discuss this. Whether you're pro-life, pro-choice, or perhaps a middle ground (I don't know exactly what that would like, but it's there).

Discuss why you're pro-choice, or pro-life, or whatever individual specific opinion you have on the topic. Personally, I am pro-choice. I also believe abortion to be a women's issue. If you agree or disagree, explain.

Be nice to each other everyone. :)

I'm pro-choice. Though in some people's case I also strongly support post-birth mandatory abortions for those people. :p

Where it fails is 'at the woman's expense,' in that it implies this is a pure negative for the mother (most mothers tend to disagree). I would argue it's a symbiotic relationship. This allows for some 'parasitic' traits, but as a more general (and significantly less loaded) term, also acknowledges the positive aspects of the relationship.Neither is technically correct, because all forms of symbiont (including parasites) are required to be of another species from the host; biologically speaking this is natural reproductive process, which cannot be categorized in either sense we're talking about. But, hey, language is cooler than science, so eff it.

Definition 1 of Parasite does not specify that the organism has to be of a separate species.

Definition 2 applies as well if we assume that the Religious Radicals are right and that fetus' qualify as "persons"

par·a·site [par-uh-sahyt] Show IPA
noun
1.
an organism that lives on or in an organism of another species, known as the host, from the body of which it obtains nutriment.
2.
a person who receives support, advantage, or the like, from another or others without giving any useful or proper return, as one who lives on the hospitality of others.
3.
(in ancient Greece) a person who received free meals in return for amusing or impudent conversation, flattering remarks, etc.

... You mean the part where I connected your political beliefs to other parts of your political beliefs to put into question the logic behind why one thing is okay and another is not despite them having similar consequences?

Then declaring that an ad hominem has taken place whilst simultaneously using an ad hominem?

My, why yes, I think we are done here.
