recently got excommunicated for saying that's just a ploy to sell hurricane insurance.

When we keep getting record breaking storms, unseasonable storms (winter hurricane weather ftw!), and severe natural disasters on a more common frequency, I think that's a pretty good indication that things are changing from what it's been for a long, long time. As I said in an earlier post, the Earth's going through its cycles, while human activity isn't exactly helping, but I wouldn't say it's the only cause of the climate change.

I mean, shit. If we were heading into an ice age, people would still find a way to blame humans for being responsible, while others would deny it's happening. It is what it is, but regardless of what you do or don't believe, everyone should be able to agree finding more sustainable solutions to environmental concerns can only benefit everyone as a whole. I'd rather not have to worry about contaminated water from improperly disposed of/ treated sewage, miniature mountain ranges of landfills, bio-accumulated toxins in the food I eat, and having to carry around a dust mask/ respirator due to excessive air pollution, and so on. I mean, sure it's not as dramatic for the media to look at as melting ice caps or crazy weather patterns, but it's pretty serious stuff that we should at least all agree that we need to do a better job at managing, given the staggering numbers of people in the world and the individual demands of that pollution on our natural resources.

As for things being a ploy to sell hurricane insurance, the way I look at it is if you live somewhere that is at risk of hurricanes, probably wouldn't hurt. If not, don't worry about it. Sadly, a lot of people probably buy into alarmist things pretty readily... I just remembered that Family Guy episode with the cloud insurance.

And is is why we need to spend more money on science to help find cleaner more renewable energy

Agreed 100%. I'm all for the funding of scientific research. Unfortunately it's lacking. Here in Canada Harper(our evil overlord PM) recently starting repressing scientific research regarding the environment.

Don't sensationalize.

If you work within the Department of Fisheries and Oceans' Arctic region, your research has to be reviewed by DFO administration before being published. There's been literally nothing done to in any way harm the actual work done by scientists, and the DFO's regulation of publications precedes the Harper government.

Then I guess you haven't heard of him closing down scientific libraries across Canada. This isn't sensationalism, it's something that is actually occurring.

Your spin on the situation is what's sensationalism. A government department is being downsized. That's all that is "actually occurring".
