Confusion took over Athena's face as she tried to process what her partner had said. It was as though she was intentionally avoiding being straight-forward. Perchance some sort of test? Did she get a gold star if she figured it out? For some reason, interacting with the older girl wasn't as hard as she had anticipated, perhaps it was because they were both on the quieter, introverted side. She had almost forgotten her previous embarrassment at her little chopping-board handshake jig.

Hearing the teacher speak her up snapped her back to attention, as she reclaimed her hand back from the girl, and took a few steps back. A few students had already started their fight. Their fancy magic tricks seemed astounding to Athena, who was still rather untalented. Facing back to her partner, she shifted her stance slightly. "I'm not very strong, but I'm not going to resign easily." She stated, waiting for her temporary opponent to make the first move.

Peyton Smirked slightly when her foot connected, sending Sophia falling. She recovered well. The cloud she retaliated with made Peyton's vision hazy, and the punch that Sophia threw landed squarely on her right kidney. "DAMMIT!" she cursed and stumbled forward. The fire trick was her only real distraction that she knew how to do safely. Standing back up she smiled at Sophia. It was obvious that hand to hand was not her strong point, but she was still good at it.

After she recovered she sent another wave of heat, this time a smokey haze toward her opponent, followed by a quick jab to the left side. The haze left both girls unable to see properly. She didn't want to get to into the fight and get too rough.

Several things happened at once. One Julia's kick was blocked. That was not surprising - it had been an easy kick to block. Two a heavy but small down pour had started over her. This was smart. The cold and the wet would tire her and give her more drag, making her movements slow and sloppy. While Julia hadn't been trained officially she had traveled around and learned many interesting techniques. One was that people usually hated fire near their face, and that was enough to unbalance them. With a small flick of her wrists, her hands were engulfed in flame. While the rain did dampen them, her internal heat was enough to keep the fire going. She grabbed her leg back and threw a flaming fist, aiming for it to go right by her head.

This intention wasn't to hit her in the face, no that would just be silly. The flaming hand was meant as a distraction. Her right fist sailed past Lynx's face, and her left, suddenly fireless hand, headed down toward her gut. If it landed it would be a solid punch.

@AbysmalDemonSeveral things happen in Drake's mind at once. First he tries to remember what he knows about the guy he's fighting, as personality can link to fighting style. From the argument he belives he would be quite aggressive. He also thinks of his plan for taking him down.

He quickly lets a blast of the wind at the water stopping it's momentum. He then corrects his stance and brings his feet in.

He had to admit, Drake was good, and he learned from his mistakes quickly as his feet were no longer out. Quickly cal whipped the puddle of water on the floor into a small twister, encircling his opponent, hopefully blinding him enough to land a kick on the gut which would do some serious damage if contact was made.

@AbysmalDemon He surrounds himself with fast moving wind and he jumps out of the twister remaining dry. He instantly get his stance back. Because he jumped out the kick grazes his side, but that's it. It throbs a bit, but besides that it doesn't do much. "Gah..." Maybe he'll tire himself out, he is good. He's also pretty strong, the kick barely connecting still hurts... Really bad. Also he's quite good with magic... This is gonna be fun.

A Wind opponent was tough, but cal had figured out how to take him down. Drake was using wind defensively, and hadn't made a first move yet. Hehas to be weak offensively, Cal thought.

A smirk grew on Cal's face as he let water encircle his hands, waiting for his opponents next move.

@AbysmalDemon He attacks with some wind pushing down on his head and knocking his hair down possibly in his eyes. He jumps up and with the help of wind and reaches 5ft. He accelerates towards Cal with a kick midair. Though the last second before either Cal blocks or it connects he uses the wind to shift himself in an impossible fashion. Probably trowing off Cal.

Cal isn't phased by the hair in his eyes. He simply brushes it off. As Cal assumed, the opponent would charge in too lightly, or to offensively, the truth being the latter of the two. With the force of the incoming kick Cal didn't need to worry about blocking it, he simply ducked letting his opponent crash into the floor.

Cal's smirk widens slightly as he sees his opponent on the floor. Shoots a small ball of water at the left side of his face, hopefully causing Drake to move his face to the right, where Cal's foot will be waiting for him.

@AbysmalDemon He lets the water splash on his face. He let's out a groan in reality he isn't in much pain, but he wants his opponent to think otherwise. He makes sure he's contracted and all his limbs are close to one another.

Haveing been completely focused on her defense and makeing the down poor, the flame fist through her off. Lynx wide-eyed, moved her head in the opposite way, thinking the purpose was to hit her she grin when the punch missed her. However seconds later she stumbles backwards holding her gut, only momentarily. Standing up, trying to convince her self that it didnt hurt, Lynx manages to lets out a loud menacing laugh. "holey f***" she cuses after laughing. Seeing now that she shouldnt doubt her opponent. Lynx rushing towards the girl forming a twister the spun wildy around her arm, Lynx uses her force to thrust the twister at Julias stomach with great speed and power. that should give her a taste of her own medicine Lynx thought to herself with a smug smile.

Julia smiled as her punch landed solidly, and she hurriedly backed away from the other girl. She knew what rogues would do with an opponent that didn't get up fast enough, but apparently that was frowned upon at the academy. Julia watched the girl rise and started a whirlwind on her arm. That wasn't good. Julia took another step back and made her footing was good. She tried to quickly mold the fire around her to block the wind that slammed into her. The wind was forceful and slammed her back several feet. She rolled out of the spin off and landed back on her feet. The red headed girl needed to decide her next move. She was in pain, but letting her opponent see that would be unwise. She darted toward the girl and at the last second jumped. She sent a jet of fire out of her hands propelling her forward, over the girl. She landed just behind Lynx and swung her leg around hoping to trip the air affinity.

This time just to be safe, Lynx formed a volcano around her and made it erupt spilling hot lava in a 10meter radious. This would be her strong defense and weak attack. Being surrounded inside the volcano though she couldnt see her opponant but Lynx decided that it was worth the possible risk.

@AbysmalDemon Drake moves his legs in so his knees are up. He then springs upwards and slams his head in under his chin trying to stagger him.

John figured he should get it overwith quickly. If Drago could take the initial hit, though, it might be a bit entertaining to practice combat with him. If not... That gave him time to sit back and relax.

The instant Drago accepted his handshake, he'd find himself being flung over John and onto his back by the first throw anybody would learn on their first day in a judo class. Leverage was everything, and it was a very simple toss, but it might just work if done by surprise. Easier to start from a handshake than from trying to catch a punch.

Julia's eyes widened and she took a couple of steps back from the volcano, giving a wide birth. It was spewing lava in about a 9-10 foot diameter. She raised an eyebrow. That was impressive. That was a combination of earth and fire. It took a high skilled individual to do such a thing. Julia just stood back and waited. There was no way she could dodge the lava, and even if she could, jumping straight down that hole would probably land on Lynx. So Julia just stood back for a minute and watched the other spar.

Letting out a sigh Lynx let her defense fall now that she had gathered her nerves. She looked at Julia waiting to see what her next move would be as the lava quickly cooled into hardened ash.

Clara easily picked herself off the desk at the girl's words. "There's a fine line between bravery and stupidity." Clara said flatly. "While sometimes it is good to run others it is good to stand your ground. Knowing the difference is the hallmark of a true warrior. Do not blindly follow but think for yourself."

With that Clara was quite finished. She reached out with her magic and snagged the air. It was unhappy and disturbed by the fighting already going on. Instead of provoking it more she stilled the air around them and looked at Athena expectantly. The girl was obviously waiting for Clara to make the first move. And she had. Now the next was up to her opponent.

"Yup. And It's Drago." He smirked impishly at John, taking his hand. He probably should have known better growing up with Clara who was never adversed pranks and underhanded maneuvers. Nor did he consider that because everyone else was going at it that John would jump straight to it. So he took the offered hand of deceitful friendship only to find himself flipped over John and onto his back. His breath escaped his body with a small groan. As the man lay sprawled on the floor, trying to catch his breath he huffed out a weak: "Foul."

The fight felt as though it were over, if it could even be called a fight to begin with. It felt cheap, relying on the old handshake-toss to win what would have been a friendly sparring match, but John wasn't really feeling up to a full-on fight at the moment. Perhaps Drago would learn something about preparedness from this little incident. Perhaps not. Either way, it wasn't much of a problem, and John sat on the grass a few feet away. The grass around him, of course, turned brown and shriveled as soon as his hands touched the ground.

"Eeyup. That's the name of the game in a real fight, so why not here too? I'd help you up, but the ground's nicer than being upright after being tossed like that."
