I'm just wondering though, since it's been established that the creature has some form of intelligence, would Serah be allowed to attempt communication with it? Make it calm down enough for some light interrogation?

By all means make the attempt, you're a druid after all. Might want to act quickly though, else Zogolli's sword might get to it first.

@Aristo Yep, just a hack'n slash with my rapier, so a +2 modifier from dex. Bearing in mind that it's messy and forceful by way of barbarian.

I actually goofed; monsters automatically do damage when they attack back on a 6 or 7-9 hack 'n slash. But I'll let my mistake slide for now, since it feels a bit more cinematic.

speaking of, I think the momentum of the encounter is better served by someone else stepping into the spotlight as Zogolli and the beast circle each other, maybe Serah could step between them if she was still set on calming the creature. Or Alexandria or Linoleum could capitalize on the distraction somehow.

Top notch narration so far Aristo, it's the little touches like the reasoning behind our encounter (monster is a victim of the wilderdeep as well) and asking for the one thing Serah doesn't have on her, forcing that juicy co-operation.
