Can't say I've watched Ranma 1/2, but I definitely recommend you watch Yu Yu Hakusho. It's basically the definer for most tournament arc-related tropes, right up there with the original Dragon Ball.

I'm having a load of fun writing the lore (even though I'm just describing ki in greater detail). It should be done shortly, I just gotta write the rules.
