This is a not so classic version of the naughty girl meets nice guy. Or rather the naughty girl catches the nice guy when she is having a less than nice day.

Our story is set in a galaxy far, far away … Hmm, that sounds familiar. But it really IS a galaxy far, far away … in a sort of futuristic Victorian styled empire. Dukes may rule a whole sector of space. Being born of noble blood is no guarantee of entitlement - not if you aren’t the heir.

Our young man is a prime physical specimen standing a solidly built 6’9”. (People, especially the privileged, tend to enjoy a longer lifespan.) He is resourceful and intelligent. But he is a less than favored member of his family. He is the 13th son born to the third of 4 wives. His father is the usual noble tyrant, but still … a Duke. This son, we’ll call him Duncan, is disgracing the family name by turning his back on familial duties in favor of science. Oh he stays in peak physical condition - practically olympic. But he spends most of his time searching for answers. Among his many interests - Precursor Technology and History. (This translates very nicely to Treasure Beyond Imagining.)

Despite his low position in the family he is not without his own personal wealth. He has his own starship. It isn’t much - a Nike Class FTL scout - a former military model often used by Interstellar Law. (It is actually a bit smaller than a tramp freighter like the Millenium Falcon.)

Our naughty damsel is your not so typical thief, pirate, wanted in a dozen systems sort of scoundrel. (Think of a female version of Starlord from Guardians of the Galaxy, or a Han Solo. If you have better ideas ….)

+++++++

Our duo will meet up at an auction of rare antiquities. No, she isn’t there to steal anything. She’s there to auction off her booty. And toward that end she has used a broker to seal the deal. Naturally she can resist watching the auction. She stole her artifact on a planet run by mobsters. It was a stolen piece - and a fake. But it was a damned good fake if it fooled the mobster and whoever verified it as authentic.

Enter our “dashing hero” (read as chump as he starts to drive up the bids). His bids draw a bit more attention that one would like. Then he does raises the stakes and asks to view the piece up close and speak with the broker. He does so and nods making a bid that noone dares challenge. Maybe it wasn’t a fake after all? If so ….

Then our girl is recognized by bounty hunters and all hell breaks loose.
