[OOC] The Council of Night

THE PLOT

There are things that go bump in the night. Since before humanity has existed, there have been creatures of utter horror, twisted things that should not exist. For untold millenniums, these beings have operated in the shadows, preying on humankind, all the while making it seem like they didn’t exist.

It is only within the last few centuries that these monsters began to come together. Initiated by a young Count turned Vampire, named Dracula, this unification of monster kind started with just like species. Vampire with Vampire, Werewolf with Werewolf. But Count Dracula had a grander vision, one of supernatural creatures manipulating the human world from the shadows. It is with this in mind that he formed the Council of Night.

Comprised of leaders from many different supernatural communities, the Council of Night ruled over all monsters, creating laws and treaties to abide under. This authoritative power was maintained by Dracula. Called the Prince of Darkness by some, Dracula held much sway over all the different monsters. It was only with him as the head that the Council of Night could exist.

The only problem is that Count Dracula disappeared a week ago. However, only a few key members of the Council of Night are aware of this. Called by Dracula to attend a meeting at his castle, these Council members would suddenly find themselves in charge of the Council of Night. However, without the power of Count Dracula to cement their rule, can these creatures maintain control over all the other monsters?

PLAYER ROLE

So each player will be playing a supernatural creature, or otherwise horror type character, who is a member of the Council of Night. While this was initially inspired by the old Universal Monster Movies, I am opening this up to a wider array of monsters. Pretty much anything that has been in a horror movie and is able to have advanced thought and speech, would fit.

It was also probably fit better if your character had a way of hiding amongst humans. Whether this be magic, shape-shifting, invisibility, or other means, they will need to blend in as this is set in modern day.

RULES

• All the Standard Rules of RPGuild apply.
• Almost any type of monster is allowed, as long as it doesn’t have god-like power or wouldn’t care about the going ons of other monsters.
• Right now I’m limiting it to one character per player.
• The character sheet is located at the top of the Characters Tab. When finished with it, post it in the OOC tab for review.
• As this is based on Horror Movies, expect some violence and scary stuff. If that bothers you, you may want to think twice about joining this.
• I’m pretty flexible with posting, so please let me know if you have to be away or other circumstances come up that prevent posting.

NOTES

So this is actually based on a RP I was in briefly several years back. I have since lost the link to it and I’ve even forgotten who ran it. However, it did pop up back into my mind a few days ago, as I’ve been in a major horror kick. I do remember that in the previous iteration that I was playing Graf Orlok from Nosferatu, a character I’ll still play for this.

This will be a love letter to all the classic monster films of any classic era, ranging all the way from the 1920s to the 1980s. Basically if you’ve ever wanted to play the villain, the horrible thing killing everyone, this is your game.

So is anyone interested in a modern day horror thriller, starring the classic movie monsters? There will be action, conspiracies, and of course, horror. Will you try and find Count Dracula, or will you try and seize power in his absence? And what will become of the Council of Night?

If this sounds fun, please let me know. Also I’m open to any questions about the setting or acceptable characters.

Skinwalker

Name: Cameron Monzel

Gender: Female

Species: Skinwalker

Abilities/Magic: A local witch with the ability to shapeshift into any animal at will. However, if she chooses to shift into a human, she must take a lock of hair from the original. Cameron then has the ability to change shape and walk the Earth looking like a normal human being. Her eyes are the only give away, as they shine brightly in front of a camera. If she needs to shed the identity of the human, it usually leaves a giant puddle of melted skin in her wake.

Skills: Has the ability to retain all the memories of the human being she is wearing, knows all their languages. When changing to an animal, is able to use all of their skills and defenses.

Weaknesses: Bright eyes with a camera, can only retain the skin she is wearing for a few hours. If injured, her blood is black instead of red.

Personality Traits: Reserved but easily provoked. Spiteful. Vindictive.

Backstory: Born Cameron Monzel, an ordinary witch in a small coven, she grew up wanting to be the best. Instead, her older brother was the one to watch. He was adored and loved by all who met him and was destined to be the next leader of their coven. Cameron despised all of the attention that he was getting; she was the better witch and she wanted all the power to herself.

At the tender age of fifteen, she set out to prove herself to be the best. She successfully cursed her brother, causing him to be near death. Instead of the praise she thought she would get for how strong her powers were, she was exiled from the coven. Left alone as a young woman with no coven to protect her, she plotted her revenge. She waited until her brother slowly healed from her curse before one night sneaking into the coven. There, she crept into her brother's bedroom and slashed his throat. Cameron watched him bleed out, unable to scream for help.

Something changed in her that night. A searing pain entered her body as she morphed into a creature of legend. Her bright blue eyes changed into piercing red ones, her body soon developing silky feathers over every inch except her face. Ashamed of her new identity, Cameron stole away into the night and lived a solitary life.

It wasn't until she was near the year one hundred in age that she was approached to join the Council of Night. They needed a monster of each legend to join, and as far as Cameron was concerned, she was the only skinwalker in the area that she knew of. Tired of being alone and desperately needing a new coven, she accepted the offer.

• Ethereal Scream: A hauntingly beautiful and powerful voice that mesmerizes and affects emotions - inducing fear, melancholy, calming, and healing.
• Spirit Sight: Able to see and communicate with spirits and departed souls.
• Invisibility in Shadows: Capable of blending into shadows and darkness, practically invisible to human eyes. She conceals her markings and wears sunglasses during the day.

Skills:

• Stealth and Subterfuge: Honed ability to move silently and unnoticed, gathering information discreetly and avoiding unwanted attention. 100% effective at night.
• Singing and Musical Proficiency: Skilled in singing and playing musical instruments to enhance her eerie presence and captivate others.

Weaknesses:

• Vulnerable in Sunlight: Exposure to direct sunlight weakens Aria, draining her strength and limiting her abilities.
• Emotional Sensitivity: Her powers are influenced by emotions, making it challenging to control or unintentionally amplify their effects during intense feelings of sadness or anger.
• Ties to the Spirit Realm: Her connection to the spirit world can make her vulnerable to spiritual attacks or manipulation by more powerful entities from that realm.

Personality Traits:

• Melancholic: Aria carries an air of sadness, reflective of her banshee nature and her sorrow for departed souls.
• Guarded: Years of witnessing loss and detachment make her cautious about forming close relationships with others.
• Compassionate: Despite her eerie appearance, Aria genuinely cares for the well-being of others who are suffering or in need of comfort.
• Resolute: When faced with challenges or adversity, Aria remains determined and resilient.

Backstory:
Born from the echoes of sorrow and loss, Aria Nightshade’s existence stretches back to times long forgotten by humans. As a banshee, she has wandered the world, her spectral form drawn to places of profound tragedy and suffering. With every lamenting wail, she mourned the lives lost to wars, plagues, and calamities, bearing witness to the struggles of both humans and creatures of the night.

As the ages passed, Aria's understanding of sorrow evolved into a deeper empathy for the living, regardless of their origin. She realized that sorrow was a universal experience shared by all beings, both mortal and immortal. This revelation awakened a desire within her to do more than merely predict and grieve for fallen souls. She yearned to ease their suffering, prevent further heartache, and ensure the coexistence of humans and supernatural creatures.

Despite her initial skepticism when Count Dracula called for her, Aria joined the council with the goal of preventing further tragedies and fostering coexistence between humans and the supernatural. However, with Count’s sudden disappearance, the weight of responsibility presses upon her spectral shoulders.

Extra:
Aria carries with her a small, tattered journal that holds the stories of countless lives she has witnessed and mourned. The journal serves as a reminder of her duty and the weight of her role as a banshee and a member of the Council of Night.

Lady Suiko

Yokai, specifically Kitsune

Abilities/Magic:

As the Lady of the Night Parade, known as Yokai, Suiko is the most powerful out of all the Eastern spirits. She has great agility and flexibility to evade and attack opponents. Suiko is fast in her actions and in her thinking, able to form quick plans and be able to predict outcomes within seconds. She is able to use healing magic on herself and others and can drive weaker beings insane with a single touch. Suiko has a specific set of songs that she sings to draw in victims and uses it to control them.

Suiko is able to transform into a large fox and her fur changes in color to adapt her to her environment. In size, her fox form rivals that of a wolf. She can also take the appearance of a human in order to gain her victim's trust or hide from those who hunt her.

Skills:

Persuasion- Over the years Suiko has learned that many things can be solved with words instead of getting her hands dirty.
Stealth- Centuries of training have allowed the Lady Fox to have silent steps even in heels.
Torture- Suiko is a master torturer of both humans and supernatural beings alike, it was a crucial part of her becoming the Lady of the Night Parade. She knows what makes most beings tick and uses her abilities to get what she wants.
Hand-to-Hand Combat- Suiko hasn't become the leader of Yokai just by words alone, sometimes some Eastern demons needed to be dealt with to submit.

Weaknesses:

-Suiko has to siphon the life force of humans in order to sustain her abilities. If she doesn't have a regular source, she becomes animalistic and fades into insanity herself.
-Warding circles made of salt can keep Suiko in place.
-If someone is able to obtain one of her nine tails, they can also hold her hostage, similar to that of silkies that shed their skins. This is why she is fiercely protective of her tails.
-Although Suiko loves nature, she is unable to pass through large bodies of water like an ocean.

Personality Traits:

Cunning, Alluring, Perceptive, Loyal

Backstory:

Suiko was born during the Yayoi period when Japan was just starting to create permanent villages. She was the daughter of a chieftain and was considered the most beautiful even as a child. Her mother was a mystery as no one knew where the woman came from, only that the chieftain had gone out to hunt for the village and returned with an elegant woman and a fur in his pack. It turned out that Suiko's mother was a fox spirit and had caught the eye of the chieftain, he had crept up on her when she had been resting and cut off one of her two tails.
Suiko's mother prayed for her daughter to gain the power of the Kitsune to avenge her.

When Suiko was just five-years-old, she was told a song by the spirits of nature. They instructed her that if she sang it, she would be protected but once she used it, she would never be able to stop. Naturally, as Suiko grew older, she became more beautiful and her mother began to recognize that her daughter indeed had the power of the Kitsune. Her mother taught Suiko everything she knew and told her that most men could be swayed by words but many had to be forced to comply. She had outlived her mother, who was made mortal after her father had burned her tail in order to keep her.

When Suiko was in her later teens, a man from a rival village tried to take her as a bride by force, which forced Suiko to use the song the spirits of nature had taught her. The man became zombie-like once the song was completed, he was hers to command. She ordered him to kill himself. Once the man's life force left his body, Suiko was filled with invigorating power.

Throughout the centuries, Suiko had taken care of the spirits that resided within her father's land but she needed a steady source of humans to harvest their life force whether by compliance or force. She found that many of the Yokai that filled the Eastern world needed order.

Suiko had already gained four tails when she was in the midst of concurring Oni clans. Her bladed fans dripped with blood when Dracula came forth to offer assistance with gaining a foothold in the human world. While Suiko had gained a few followers of the vampiric nature, she knew that Dracula wasn't like the kind she knew. He was more powerful, therefore, she forged an agreement with the ancient vampire. As she gained power in both the human and spirit realms, Suiko soon had one hundred spirit and demon clans under her control. This has been normal for the last millennia. Suiko's followers, both human and spirit, have effectively allowed her to be one of the few most powerful women in history.

Recently, Suiko had gone to the 24-hour cafe where she meets Dracula for the annual discussion on Council of Night events but he never showed, and any contact that she tried to reach him with ended up as a dead end.

It won't be easy given how vague and ambiguous Lovecraft is. Hell, outside of two stories and a name drop here or there we know very little about Nyarlathotep's history, if it can even be said to have that given what it is.

Also, while it says Azathoth is his father, there's a lot of debate about whether or not the Outer God family tree Lovecraft created was serious or not. Just like there's a lot of debate over who's the actual ruler of creation, Azathoth or Yog, or if they co-rule, or if the former is just an aspect of the latter or the latter is just another part of the former's dream, etc.

Really it just comes down to what you like in your canon more.

Undead/Mummy (Formely Human)

Abilities/Magic:

-Invulnerability: Imhotep had demonstrated that he was virtually invulnerable to the weapons of the modern age, including both guns and swords, though a shotgun was able to stun him temporarily. He demonstrated that even if he was hit by blades or bullets, he simply will not die. It is also logical to assume that he is immune to all known ailments and narcotics. Having been resurrected more than once and being over 3,000 years old, Imhotep is effectively immortal.

-Superhuman Strength: Despite him being a walking corpse, Imhotep has demonstrated extraordinary strength for a 3,000-year-old rotting pile of flesh. He has shown to be capable of lifting and throwing a well-fit full grown adult into the air several feet with great ease.

-Regenerative Healing Factor: Imhotep demonstrated that he could heal from any form of physical injury. However, he must first kill those who opened the chest containing the Book of the Dead by sucking them dry of all organs and fluids to make himself human again. Even after this, Imhotep can heal himself as well as reassemble himself in case any of his limbs are severed from his body.

-Sand Manipulation: Imhotep has demonstrated in both his rotting form and even partially regenerated form that he has the power to turn his body into sand and fly out the window, either as a sandy tornado in various sizes or a jet of sand.

-Hypnosis: Imhotep had demonstrated the power to actually hypnotize people, putting them into any time period he desired

-Life-Force Absorption: Imhotep demonstrated this deadly ability by sucking the life essence and flesh of his victims. When he did this, his mouth would open in 90 degrees and unhinged in the process as if it vertically widens. He can still use this ability even when fully regenerated.

-Aquakinesis: Imhotep demonstrated the power to have complete control over water, using it to create a tsunami.

-Water Divination: Imhotep can read the future, the present and the past and/or provide help to a problem at hand via Egyptian Occult means as well as allowing the others to see what he perceived, with water as a medium.

Skills:

-Weapon Proficiency: Imhotep has demonstrated his skills in the use of swords, knives and even staff-based weapons.

-Multilingualism: Imhotep had shown to mostly speak in his native tongue of Ancient Egyptian, however he was fully capable of speaking English. He also could recognize certain languages such as Yiddish (a form of Hebrew dialect) and even Arabic.

Weaknesses:

-Ancient Egyptian Artifacts: Being resurrected by the Book of the Dead, Imhotep proved to be near invincible. The only problem he faced even when fully regenerated, was a vulnerability to artifacts of mystical nature. Artifacts such as the Book of Amun-Ra or The Scroll of Thoth has the power to strip him of his immortal powers, rendering him mortal.

Personality Traits:

Serious-Calm-Angry-Loyal-Cunning.

Backstory:

Imhotep was born in Egypt a long time ago. At a young age being interested in magic and was eventually taught it by a mysterious person named Seti. Later in life, he became the high priest for the pharaoh. And during this time he had a romantic relationship with the pharaoh's daughter. But her father would not allow her to marry Imhotep, so they would meet in secret. Eventually, her father found out she was pregnant. Imhotep was exiled while the pharaoh's daughter died in an accident before she could give birth. Stricken with grief he tried raising her and his child back from the dead. But was stopped by the pharaoh's personal bodyguards. For his crimes, he was to be mummified alive and a curse placed on his body. Sometime later he was revived and started working with the council.

So the skinwalker looks good, except I’m not sure what you meant with it can not make new memories. Like do they not remember what happens when they are in a human form? I was thinking maybe you change this to they don’t retain the memories and skills of the human she shifted into after she changes forms.

Species: Sphinx

Abilities/Magic:
Sphinxes are apex predators, possessed of supernatural strength and stamina - she can easily chase you to the ends of the world twice before killing you. Anger at your peril.

Incredibly sharp 20/4 vision, handy when she's flying in her native form. She can also teleport, and transform herself into a very tall woman. It's not known if there are other forms she can transform herself into.

Alex's lived for a thousand years, and is incredibly quick to heal - not even radiation affects her.

She can work ancient magic, her affinity is with weather magic. Or did you think it was happenstance all those thunderstorms kept showing up?

Thanks to her powerful neck muscles, she has survived a rope hanging in her human form.

Skills:
Alex knows many languages, some of which have been long dead for centuries. Best not to ask why some of those languages died out.

She holds a masters in library science. And yes, she wrote the book.

Holds a doctorate in Archeology, and an associate degree in forensic science.

Understands chemistry, biology, and physics. Knows the last thousand years of history very well.

Weaknesses:

That being said, she can't outrun a bullet or a blade to her back - she has a few scars.
She can be drugged.

Personality Traits:
Alex is very organized, likes to keep things clean and in good repair. While she tries to be friendly and even diplomatic, sometimes motherly, knowing there are times that the young ones need a good swat.

Cultivates an air of mystery around herself - it may be her enigmatic smile, or perhaps it's simply knowing where she buried the bodies.

She has a weakness for books.

A bit pessimistic, she's seen too many of the horrors.

Backstory:
Named after the lost library, she grew up as a guardian, protecting knowledge, sometimes sharing it with those she deems worthy. There's been a few betrayals, a few broken hearts, some losses, and too many book burnings. She's helped to rescue books from burning libraries, art and exhibits from museums

Very few humans have earned the right to visit her library.

Extra:
The library exists in a pocket dimension. Only those who know how to teleport or where to find the doorways may enter.

Uninvited guests and misbehaving patrons may not reach the exits.

So playing as a Sphynx is interesting, but perhaps you should elaborate on your take on the species. Also the weakness section should include the specific way to defeat your monster, as all good monsters have some kind of weakness.

Other than that, I see you labeled it a WIP so I’m figuring you’ll flesh out some of the other sections before you declare it a finished sheet.
