Introduction


A thousand years ago the continent of Azukhar was dominated by a kingdom whose name has long since been forgotten, along with the reason for their mysterious collapse. What does remain behind is the scattered remnants of their culture, their architecture and, most importantly, the relics of a lost age. When the Old Kingdom fell it left behind many artifacts of remarkable power, most of them disguised as mere trinkets and baubles which were easily passed over by treasure hunters and scavengers picking through their ruins decades, or centuries, later. The secret to uncovering these relics lies not in you recognizing something in them, but in them recognizing something in you. A relic's power will only activate when it senses the presence of someone capable of wielding it, what makes a person capable is hard for anyone to say as there has been no research regarding the relics.

When one of these artifacts is activated a bond is created between the item and the Chosen, who is sometimes called the Evoker. The Chosen will gain a distinct mystical power, one that reflects their personality and is tailored to their abilities. However, if they are separated from the relic they will lose their abilities, and if the separation continues for too long they will begin to waste away until eventually they are either reunited with their relic or they perish. You have been chosen. Your relic might have caught your eye in the local market, or been an heirloom that has been passed down the family until it activated for you. Whoever you are, and however you came across your relics, you have likely kept your powers a secret. Relics may arouse curiosity among scholars, or tempt kings with their strange powers, but the abilities they grant are steeped in fear and superstition by the common folk and over the generations the church has created a special inquisition charged with tracking these 'pagan' relics down and destroying them.

While many realms have capitulated to the demands of the inquisition, the Kingdom of Othea is one of a coalition of nations which have denied the expanding powers of the Church. We find ourselves in the ancient capital of Othea, the lakeside city of Amaryth, in time for the coronation of a new King. Some of us are hoping to escape persecution, some are simply traveling, and a few actually live within the city and have for a long time. The question becomes will this new King be swayed by the ever prying agents of the Church, or will he stand by his father's position and deny their influence as well.

Meanwhile in the distant east, beyond the wall of mountains which shields Othea from the world, the Kalesian Empire has mobilized their forces for war. With their elite corps of trained evokers, they have burrowed beneath the impassable mountains and managed to sneak the spearhead of their army into the very heart of Othea undetected. Now, as the coronation of Aral Otharion the Fifth is underway, they have launched their assault on the capital itself; the outer city quickly fell under their control and docks have been seized, however, the Inner City still holds against their seemingly insurmountable force. Although, for how long is anyone's guess.
The RP


  • I plan for this to be a free form roleplay constructed by the actions of the characters, so despite what the introduction may have implied I don't have an intense plot waiting to unravel. The introduction's purpose was to introduce us to a basic shared setting which we each can work on, and I expect all of our characters to contribute something to the shared story. I am looking for players who roll with the punches, and take initiative. The delicate character arc you planned out may be absolutely destroyed, but that's life right? I don't expect your character to collapse because your plot for him was foiled, if he was well considered to begin with you should be able to carry on like nothing happened because in the real world your plans will change with the circumstances.


  • About your powers, they can be as simple as fire manipulation or as complicated as detecting the vertices of hyper cubes in ascending dimensions. As long as they're practical, which means not the latter example, and not over powered. Give your character room to grow because, as was mentioned above, the powers reflect your character's personality. That means as your character grows and develops as a person, or breaks, their powers can and will change with them.


  • I am warning you now, in case you didn't gather it from the first bullet, I don't have a plan. A lot of RPs I've made or joined in the past have been overburdened by all sorts of rules and plots which never came to fruition, and they usually died early on. That's not to say that they can't work, I've seen RPs like that succeed before as well. On the other hand, the most successful (and the most fun) RPs I've ever been in were played fast and loose without us struggling to make sure we weren't stepping on anyone else's toes or plots. You want to kill my parents? If you can find them, go ahead. Will it traumatize my character? Maybe, but I'm not going to say you can't do something because it has a negative effect on the plot. I still may say you can't do something, but the plot won't be the reason.


  • If you're interested in this, congratulations it sounds like it could be fun if it's executed properly and we have the right set of players. I'm looking for chatty people, and I'm going to run my OOC just like I would a chat thread. No rules beyond the Guild's, as long as there is no anime pic spam that isn't in hiders. In a lot of RPs the atmosphere in the OOC can be compared to a graveyard, even when there are people it's not particularly fun, I would prefer you guys to like each other and have fun outside the frame of the roleplay. Sounds good, right?

    Name: Lucia V. Valendorffe

    Age: 17

    Gender: Female

    Relic Description: A small and simple item, it is a rusted little ring that looks to have three little blocks of metal on its top-side. It has gifted Lucia with the ability to create and control crystal. As of now Lucia is quite new to her powers, she only has the ability to create relatively small and thin pieces of brittle and quite useless crystal. All it does for her so far is adorn her room window rainbow makers. She received the ring from her older sister as a hand-me-down.

    Skills: Lucia's father is a hunter, and thus has taught her some useful survival tips. She does NOT know to actually track or kill an animal properly. She has learned how to knit and sew cloth, and she is decent at cooking. Farm-work has given her a god work ethic. She is a skilled horse-rider. Lucia is oddly good at making jewelry and small trinkets.

    Background: The Valendorffe family was once a noble family, though long ago Relius T. Valendorffe once tried to usurp the throne of the Ulior kindgom. After fleeing form the country, his family stowed away to make a new living for themselves. Eventually, after much moving about and changing life styles, the Valendorffe found themselves in a new country, and with nothing to do but live off the land. Years later the family has no ties to their past, and Lucia is the great great great granddaughter of a usurper to be. She lives with her mother, father two sisters and one brother on a farm, they are humble people who live mostly for themselves.

    Appearance: Lucia is a short girl, she stands at roughly 5'5 and was naturally thin, though her lifestyle has brought some honest muscle to her body. She is tanned and freckled from spending much time in the sun. Her hair is spilled gold,which is usually kept in a long braid down to her ankles. She has one blue eye and one blue, both shine quite brightly and she has long lashes. She wears a rough tunic under a long and old red cowl. A straw hat hangs around her neck and she has thick boots under her soles. A cotton dress of light blue is usually what she has on her person. (It's a little ratty and small for her, but she doesn't mind)

    Motivation: Currently, Lucia is traveling with her older brother to find their mysterious uncle. They had received a letter a while back inviting the two of them specifically to join him for a month. Their parents decided it would do them good to see the world, and thus they are traveling. They move by two horse wagon, making money by selling preserved jam and small trinkets Lucia has found and or made. (Her new powers help her make unique little things)

    Before anymore CSS pop up, I'm reserving my artifact. TheThird Eye is a sight based relic that, at it's current strength, lets the user see into a higher spectrum, showing energy signatures around people and objects (auras, if you will)

    I'm working on my own CS, but i'm trying to decide whether to make his powers relate to "Gravity bending" or something to do with the Constellations. Can you tell he has a Space/Stars theme?

    Not really sure, I imagined summoning different Spirits from constellations, each possessing their own power but an enemy could attack the spirit itself. Thats why im leaning towards Gravity, i feel like what i just described would be over-powered.
