So much talk of helping Muggles. Honestly, the wizarding world should just say, "Hey, go ahead an use all the nuclear energy you want. Let us be and we'll just vanish away the waste for you and set up some protective charms just in case." Or just design a generator that can take advantage of summoning, banishing and duplication spells. If anything, energy companies are probably the people driving this anti-wizard movement. A whole world-wide community of people who can break the law of conservation of energy with a few words and gestures? That's bad for business.
What Wizards *Should* do and what they *will* do is very different. Wizards have not helped muggles out all this time, why would they start now? I don't think ti is about business. There is a DEEP cultural divide between the wizard and muggle world that, despite the incident with Voldermort and the big-reveal, has not been bridged. Even if one CAN solve someone elses problems should they? Can they really? It's complicated to say the least...
... this is a good 'bridge' to intro my new character! A muggle reporter. She will NOT be a consistent character, but I will occasional write up some articles or something by her.
Name: Olesia Darby
Age: 30
Year: N/A
Gender: Female
House: N/A
Magical Heritage: Muggle
Appearance:
Backstory/Personality:
Olesia is a journalist and activist.
She always showed a talent for writing and storytelling. As a child she would write little plays and force her family members to perform them. She particularly liked fairy tales and fantasy. She went to all the best schools, all and all she was a bright and well behaved girl with a promising future.
Everything changed when she was 10 years old. She was orphaned by death eaters during Voldemort's rising. They were one of many muggle victims during that time. The exact circumstances of their death remained a mystery, as well as exactly who the killers were and their purpose.
Her parents were dead and magic revealed in the same day. Her worldview changed drastically.
Olesia was taken in by her other family members. She started going to public schools. She began to question authority and retaliate constantly. It wasn’t simple teenage rebellion, her disruptive actions always served a purpose: feminism, racism, equality, the environment. She kept writing, but instead of fairy tales she began to write angry letters to her principal and senators. She was passed around various family members as she was expelled from various middle and high schools for various acts of civil disobedience.
In college she went City University of London to study journalism. She began to turn her critical eye to the wizarding world among other things. As dissent was growing among muggles toward their magical neighbors, Olesia added in her voice, and perhaps persuaded others to join.
She has won a few awards for her editorials in college. She writes independently, but she has a following and is published in many popular muggle journals, magazines and newspapers. Especially when she writes about Wizards.
She has been called out for toeing the line between activist and radical. Her response is “Call me a radical if you wish, but don’t call me a ‘muggle’, us so-called-’muggles’ need to start asking the hard questions, and asking as loud as we can until we get answers.”
She is currently working on an article titled “Are you a good witch, or a bad witch? And why the question is irrelevant.”
